View Full Version : Who was Peter David's best X-Factor member?

Puunk

Well, with the success of the previous "Who was the best Marauder?" and "Who was the best 'Mastermind'?" threads, I thought this would be interesting - although this does thread does limit the chance for non-X-Factor readers to participate.

Who was the best member of the most recent incarnation of X-Factor? I thought I'd be fair and add the option of picking 'other', in reference to previous X-Factor incarnations.

Layla Miller.

She made the series.

(But I still love Monet and Rictor more!!)

Congrats Puunk! You reached 900 posts.

Madrox is X Factor, the other characters are just his supporting cast.

Off the top of my head, I'd have to say the character I enjoy reading the most and who's had the best characterization is Madrox. He's the main character, of course, but that's besides the point.

So, IMO, it's Madrox, followed very closely by Monet.

EDIT: Congrats on the 900, Puunk

:O 900! Awesome! Thanks JAU, samhalliwell.

And yes -> I strongly agree that Madrox is the image of X-Factor. Though I have to also admit that Layla was a unique and great addition.

I completely forgot about Layla

She's definately one higher on my list than Monet, but I still would have voted for Madrox though.

I'll check with pariah to see if Layla is in the running for that or not, he has a detailed catalogue of her preteen years.

As much as M is my favourite character I have to go with Madrox. He gave the guy some real pathos and depth that no one had done before. Layla Miller is up there too of course doing what eh did with her from her HoM appearances.

Your cool! I also tried to keep my personal opinions out of my decision -> as much as I love Rictor and Monet (hence my signature) Madrox seems more like X-Factor.

I've liked everyone, but I had to go with Layla. She's just such a wonderful character. I always love reading anything involving her.

What's up with 'was' in the title, though? His run is still ongoing.

Well, the team itself is fractured now. Rahne's not on the team anymore. Neither are previous members.

PAD has done great work with Jamie so far (and I'm sure will continue to do so), but I absolutely love Layla. He took a character who was just a plot-device and actually made a likeable, fun, mysterious and all around awesome character! She's great!

Jamie and Layla have been the most developed, but I'm going to go with Siryn. PAD's really fleshed her out and made me come around and enjoy her, where as I always felt she was a bit periphery back in X-Force (versus Tab, Dani, Dom, etc). Great character.

Part of me feels that I should have voted for Madrox, but Layla's absence almost ruined the book for me. I'm glad to have some semblance of her back now because her voice really made the book prior to Messiah Complex.

Oh LOVED Mystique on the original book. Sabertooth too. Really one of the few times I liked him as a character. Mystique was just perfection on the govt team under Forge. I didn't care for the 'underground' days or Shard (useless character) but those early months with them on the team were great.

X-Factor has so many amazingly awesome characters - it's realyl difficult to choose just one.
Nearly every single character in X-Factor is more interesting than anything one character in Uncanny X-Men right now.

Madrox had a dupe with the moniker of X-Factor.

Layla's a close runner-up, though.

Madrox, absolutely. He was one of those characters that I felt underused, and to see him (practically) with his own title is the coolest thing to me.

I love this entire team, though. I'm a little sad that Rahne got yanked and then... not used... but I like Longshot and Darwin quite a bit.

Such a tough decision, but old Gen-X love subtly swayed me toward M. There's not really a cast member in the book that I don't love though. I even like Darwin and Longshot, and I've never really been a fan of either.

I dont quite get why everyone is raving about Layla, can someone please explain the appeal? I dont dislike her, but neither do I like her. I am completely indifferent towards her. So, can someone please explain what it is, exactly, that makes you like her? I'm just curious, thats all, I am trying to see what I might be missing...

Thanks, in advance...

Extremely hard decision. I wasn't a fan of any of the characters until I started reading X-Factor at #1 and never looked back. Madrox I consider my 2nd favorite comic book character, but this is a pretty tough decision.

I choose Sean Madrox.

Quoted for truth.

I picked Layla. Madrox and Siyrn come a close joint second, but Layla really is the linchpin behind the team. It's part of why it began to fall apart after she left.

And adult Layla is kinda hot. In a way which makes us all feel a little bit wrong.

She's an adult with flood pants, and bad socks.

Yeah. Layla is definitely my favorite on the team. Everyone is written very well, but that doesn't mean I like them. I still need to get used to adult Layla. Its a bit awkward. For a kid to know stuff is cool. For an adult its not as exciting for some reason.

All my loyalty for Wolfsbane! PAD did the best job with her.
Close was Layla though, not adult-Layla but awesome creepy-in-a-good-way kid-Layla. I miss kid-Layla.
To be honest, I've enjoyed all his characters, (except Darwin and Longshot who can go away forever), he's great at writing so many different people.

I agree.

And while I liked how smart and know-it-all she was, I'm glad she's not speaking BeastSpeak anymore.

And while I'd personally prefer her to be a bit more aloof and less vindictive, the progression of her character still seems really natural.

Having a lot of the book revolve around Madrox has turned me off of him.
It's good to see it being more team orientated this time around, in spite of what other critics say, but Madrox trying to be noir and live a noir life sounds appealing and all, but having him talk about it is a bit unappealing, like he tries too hard. Kinda bores me a little too...

Quoted for truth. The first X-Factor I read was the X-cell arc, and though she got injured, it was her appearance that lured me. Reading back, pretty much the points above stuck with me. I mean, being in X-Force, she had former new mutants to contend with, especially with Dani joining their ranks after OZT and then having her side-lined with having her throat cut. Seeing her back and doing stuff and developing is what I have seen and like.

Totally see your point about Madrox trying too hard with the noir bullshit. What's slightly ironic is that I think the series (and Madrox's life) has becoming less and less noir with the progression of the series. It's kind of like he's having Deadpool moments with the breaking of the 4th wall narrative comments at times. Still my favorite character, though, hands down.
