View Full Version : POLL: Favourite X-Woman

Who's your favourite X-Woman and why?
Mine, no surprise given my forum name, is Rachel Summers.
NO WAIT!! Don't throw the rotting produce yet!
Rachel is my favourite precisely because she's a flawed character. If you'd lived through the life she's lived through, you'd be pretty messed up too. But I like how she's turned her life around. She's made many mistakes, but she's learning. And, to paraphrase Captain Kirk at Spock's funeral, that makes her "the most . . . human."
So who's your favourite, and why?

Why did you make a poll multi-option if you're looking for favourite X-Woman?
Sorry, first time creating a poll.
Besides, some people have more than one favourite. I could easily add Rogue as she's my second favourite by only a hair's breath.

Emma is one of if not the all time favorite character of mine.
I started reading comics late 80s/early 90s. And I didn't notice till Morrison's run on New X-Men that whatever team/book Emma was on/in was my favorite. New Mutants, Generation X, New X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, and now Uncanny/Dark. She's had a natural/linear evolution into the major player of the X-Men and now the Marvel Universe. Its nice to be able to watch a character grow naturally (Similar to Cannonball another favorite of mine.)
Post Messiah Complex the X-World has really been lacking and I had considered dropping comics for a bit, but her involvement with Dark Reign has actually kept be interested.

I actually thank you for making a multi-optional poll. I love many X-Women, and I always love beign able to vote for someone else but Jean (who is my favorite out of all).
So, I am very happy you're not familiar with how polls work here, RachelRules
Also, the fact that Kitty wasn't included in that list while Dazzler and X-23 were is just insulting. There, I said it

So, are you saying the best X-Woman would be one who:
Has been defined by an angsty relationship, was in a coma when her biggest fan was writing her and spent the entire decade of the 90's whiny?
Has murdered, raped, committed animal cruelty and twisted the minds of children to support her plastic surgery addiction?
Has been an offensive racial stereotype and dressed like a tart for most of her existence while doing or saying nothing interesting in that same time?
Has spent the last two decades as a cardboard cutout of the character she used to be and spent the last few years as a domestic housewife?

lol In the X-World, there's not a lot of MAJOR female characters I really like. I used to LOVE Rogue, but that's soured some over the last few years. Other than that it's the lower tiered ladies I love. Like X-23, MONET, Armor, Siryn, Amelia Voght....
We can partially agree, I like all these characters, and feel that they do deserve more of a spotlight. But when push comes to shove, in a popularity contest, Kitty would kick their asses.

Storm is my favorite, even though I like several of the other gals. Storm is like the prom queen who sits at the lunch table with the nerds. She is like the super model who visits hospitals in the middle of the night to avoid the media. Storm could be anything she wants to be in the Marvel U but she chooses to be an X-Man.

That is the cutest interpretation of Storm I have ever heard. Storm is my favorite as well. Perhaps one day I will pitch my Storm:By the Goddess mini series idea to Marvel. I know a lot of people bitch and moan about how 'perfect' she is, but really, she's just an amazing character. I would love to explore her maternal family history and pair her up with Monet and Northstar to make sure people don't get intimidated by her regal bearing. I mean, she can make a speech to world leaders one minute, save a country from famine after lunch, have an epic super-battle against Death to save her husband's soul in the afternoon and then be gettin' down in a Tokyo nightclub drinking champagne at night. What is not to love?

Her body doesn't age physically when she's dead. In movies, people who have been dead for hundreds if not thousands of years never look that old when they are resurrected. Because she spent several years total dead, she might be even physically younger than Iceman.

Jean Grey was 24 years old when she died, and everything since has been a manifestation/reincarnation of the original Phoenix, not Jean, so I would have to put her at an everlasting 24 year old physical body. Her consciousness is much older, but the physical form which she inhabits will always be 24 years old.

Why, time doesn't move in comics. If the writers were smart she'd still be a teenager.

Jean = Phoenix
She still ages, as do all Phoenix. But only when she's "alive"... she was the same age as Scott and Warren originally, after she came back she was maybe 2 years younger, if she came back now it'd probably be another year or so.
You also have to remember that mentally, Jean and Scott are 10 years older than their bodies as well, thanks to their trips to the future via Rachel/Nathan. Physically when she died last, Jean was in her late 20s, but mentally she'd be nearing 40.
Almighty Pejo
07-03-2009, 10:06 AM
I would think it's both as this thread is demonstrating.Well, I guess you have a point there. I don't see the problem with having her at the age of 24 upon her death, however. I think it fits well. She was old enough to be considered a woman, but still young enough to be considered a girl, or I am showing my age at thinking 24 is still a girl. But to each his own. :)
Jean = Phoenix
She still ages, as do all Phoenix. But only when she's "alive"... she was the same age as Scott and Warren originally, after she came back she was maybe 2 years younger, if she came back now it'd probably be another year or so.

Physically when she died last, Jean was in her late 20s, but mentally she'd be nearing 40.I'm with you on all of this (especially on the mental versus physical age issue), except I don't think Jean ages physically anymore. If you do view the cocoon retcon as pure truth and the new Phoenix/Jean placed the old body in a cocoon which hatched and continued to age, I can see your point of view. But I am of the mind that Jean Grey, the mortal woman, ceased to exist as of Uncanny X-Men 100-101, and as such, became an immortal reincarnation of her form powered by the Phoenix Force. Of course, I could be wrong on this and she really was two different bodies linked by the same mind, but I think it cheapens the endurance of forever.

It's a tie between Rachel (Red leather fetish outfits and general sexiness, combined with Phoenix power) and X-23 (Because she swings between generating huge "Please hug me" vibes and being a little engine of death that can't be stopped)You like Rachel? YOU ARE ON NOTICE WOMAN !!!!!!

No, we love her. That's why, even having been dead for 5 years, she is still winning this poll.I think her being the first X-woman (discounting the Sage retcon) helps a lot too.
I'm a little bit biased since i am a big Ginger fan:redface:

The outfit was god awful i hated it.
probably one of the reasons i quit reading comic books the first time around along with the Storm Mohawk.
I also hated her whiney "woe is me attitude" and her haircut.
I was waiting for her to come out as a bull dyke for the longest time cause she has the worst taste in fashion.

She and Alex need to see how good a leader Scott's been.

It's just the figure hugging-ness and the studs...I'm weak, I know. I can't resist it:frown:
And to be fair to poor Rachel, she had a lot to cry about, what with coming from a doomed dystopian future that might or might not exist any more.

By the time Rachel donned the red spikes'n'heels, she was well past the whiney phase... she was (the most ass-kicking) Phoenix (ever) in Excalibur. A Claremazon's Claremazon, pure sex and muscle topped with a luscious flaming mullet of telekinetic godhood. She would've eaten CBR alive and shat out this pathetic poll.
Whiney Rachel wore danskins and more recently Jean's hand-me-downs.

nuClaremont is an aberration. Even when he did good stuff in X-Treme/Uncanny, he wrote an awful Rachel. :/
Actually, his Reload Rachel reminded me quite a bit of his Outback Dazzler, both pretty much came off as whiney, bratty buffoons. And weirdly his super-capable power dyke Dazzler in NEX was slightly reminiscent of Rachel's setup in the original Excalibur. :/

It really was quite fantastic. If she kills the Shi'Ar Death Commandos (or whatever they're called) next, I will concede her character development is on the right track.

Sadly, you are quite right. He loves his archetypes and shoehorns his characters into them. It's ... odd ... that Dazzler and Rachel share this unfortunate connection.
He created Rachel and penned Dazzler's first appearance in X-Men. I don't understand why he would so obviously switch their archetypes unless that's his take on "development"?

It really was like a step backwards for both. Especially in (Outback/Reload) Uncanny, where two of the least "rookie" characters were shamelessly shoehorned into the role. After (what I've been told of) Dazzler's solo and what Davis/Weinberg did with Rachel, it was just jarring and didn't ring true in either case.
Wow, look at all this common ground! <3 <3

For me it was more the color. P!NK was def the wrong direction for the character. I did kinda like Eaton's (brief) take though.
Sage's wardrobe assassination didn't help either. Chapz!

My good man, I think she did just that in the most recent War of Kings issue. Blew Black Cloak's head up with some focused tk totality. Then she started sobbing about it. lulz.

I KNOW, who knew!? He always has a rookie in his lineups, though; when a rookie isn't available, he just shoehorns an existing character into it ... unless that's his abrupt way of developing characters?
