View Full Version : How many more versions of Wolverine can you tolerate?

Wolverine, Daken, X-23, The Hooded Man...
With Marvel captalizing on the success of Wolverine in practically every aspect of their business, there has to be a threshold in which the public will eventually say: enough is enough. So far, both X-23 and Dakin appear to be popular characters, and have been written fairly well in the X-books... But I mean really, how many other places on the body can writers dream up where claws pop out?
So I ask you: How many more versions of Wolverine can you take in the Marvel universe before you think enough is enough?
...Another usless thread, I know. Who cares.

I would say at least 39 more.

I like the ones we have but want nothing to do with any more. It seems like Marvel wanted Wolverine to have his very own "Bat-family", with all of his proteges, children, associates, etc.
X-23 as the new Wolverine would have been better than Daken, but I like both.

It's just logic, really. The good characters, such as Wolvie, get other versions to cash in on their widespread popularity and marketabillity, while the lamer characters such as Iceman get pushed off into limbo and nobody really cares apart from a few vocal internet fans.

Wolvedrox. A Wolverine clone gene-spliced with Jamie Madrox. It's the perfect solution. Every team can have its own personal Wolvedrox with slight personality variations.

I wouldn't mind more. The thing is for the to be successful, they have to be different from Wolverine. That's one of the reason why X-23 and Daken are so popular right now. They may have similar powers but they are completely different from Wolverine in personality and temperament.

Add The Hooded Man who is Wolverine from 500 years in the future currently hanging out in Nu-earth.

No mas. X-23 and Daken I can handle (as long as Daken remains a villain), and I've actually grown to enjoy both of them as characters.
I get the feeling that none of Strikeforce X will survive the first Wolverine Weapon X arc, so that's a good thing IMO.
As for Old Man Logan/The Hooded Man, I wouldn't mind if he actually replaced regular Wolverine. But maybe that's just me...
Perhaps if they kill Wolverine at the end of Ultimatum, Millar could bring The Hooded Man over to the Ultimate Universe?

I agree with this.
When I saw the title of the thread, I thought that we were going to talk about interpretations of Wolverine as opposed to characters with his skill set. The thing is when you say 'Wolverine'. I think of more than just his claws. I think of a rough, scruffy and brutish man who is a borderline pig, who thinks with his fists, not his head.
X-23 is so polar opposite from Wolverine in temperment etc. I hardly think of them as related or similar.

Frankly ... I like the Wolverine with the long long mask points pointing backwards ... roughly at the bottom right.

Say they did a Battle for the Cowl type of thing. I'd include Domino, Deadpool, Wild Child, Maverick, and maybe Shadowcat to make things interesting.

You're not going to like the bold new direction in Uncanny aftyer Utopia then. I've seen a leaked version of the classified solicits and it turns out every character is beinfg replaced by a clone of Wolverine and the whole title will just be 22 pages of him drinking beer, riding his motorbike and killing random people who look at him funny.

I don't even consider Laura or Daken as a "Wolverine" yeah they have claws and healing factors. But both have different back grounds and completely different personalities.
The Hooded Man is an alternate version and isn't even in the 616 universe.

Both X-23 and Daken may be like Wolvie, but they are thier own characters. And Damn good ones at that (esp X-23!)

We're just talking about the Marvel versions of Wolverine right? I can't stand those other company rip-offs. Get your own rabid animals!
I would like to see Whedon's version of Wolverine again. You know, the one that's best at making paper dolls and is terrified of big blue moose.

It was one of Logan's proudest moments.
I've actually never quite gotten the whole appeal of Wolverine. He was never that great of a character to me, just an angry drunk looking for a fight.

Thanks fellow bears.
Daken, X-23 and Wolvie are all very distinctive. There are probably a lot of other Marvel characters who are more like Wolverine in personallity, just not marketed as such.
I agree with this.

Yes, but that's because you get the character completly wrong.

I voted the first choice, but in reality, I think if Marvel came up with just one more Wolverine clone, I wouldn't be terribly bent out of shape... Though I would have to say that it would have to be an equally dark and compelling character, but on the villainous side... I'm thinking a combination of both Sabertooth and Cyber.

Earth X Machine Man + 2001 Monolith + Depressed Washed Up Beer Gut Earth X Logan = fat lazy Logan in the 616. I imagine a meeting between Fat Earth X Logan and our Wolverine or either of the kids would go something like the scenes in Paradise X where Days of Future Past Logan yells at Earth X Logan.

I know he's not exactly from Wolverine's bloodline, but wouldn't The Owl be considered somewhat of a Wolverine rip off?

Considering Leland came first? Yeah, he's a helluva ripoff.
One of the greatest characters in the MU canon. Glad Brubaker is returning him to his dandy fop appearance, as opposed to the strung-out, bullet-riddled source of Mutant X that Bendis portrayed him as.

He needs to really be cut down a little. He has his own movie, his own video game, and his own tv series, on top of like a million comic books and graphic novels and action figures. He doesn't need clones now too.
