Yeah, yeah, yeah...its only been one issue, but I think Dark Wolverine #75 was phenomenal.
X-Force is phenomenal.
Phenomenal is a difficult word to type.
But I digress.

R.I.P I LOVEYOUESTELLEANDBEA ;_;
The one thing that the two books have in common, other than Wolverine/mutants/Marvel Comics/relevancy/a good mix of humor and perverse brutality, is they are written by pairs.
Am I jumping the gun with this thread? Yes. Well STFU and go away.
But first, tell me your thoughts on whether or not you think the X-Books should match up more writers in an attempt to improve things 'round here.
Who would match up with some of the more chronically challenged writers?
This is only a sorta good topic, but Affinity encouraged me to post it. BLAME HIM.
Thanks.

Was Uncanny X-Men #500 phenomenal?

Collaboration can certainly help. Daniel Way, on both Dark Wolverine #75, as well as when he worked with Mike Carey on "Original Sin" is leagues above where he was on Wolverine: Origins alone.
There is always the possibility of too many cooks spoiling the broth, but if two writers want to bounce ideas and concepts off of each other, and check each other's p's and q's, it usually works out well, given recent history.
Then again, there was more than one writer on DC's Countdown... and it was atrocious, so it's hardly a gimme.

I think if the writers are young and new to the field, then yeah it might work out. But it won't last for long. The greatest partnerships are only good for a while, then someone will get famous or get a big head or just start getting jealous and it won't work later.

Yeah collaboration can be good. It's beneficial to have multiple writers to bounce ideas off of one another, have somebody there to say, "yeah that doesn't sound like something Warpath would say" or "that's awesome and it's a great set up to do . . ." or "no, that's total bull$#@%. No reader will buy that." Of course there are limits too. Too many cooks in the kitchen as the saying goes.

A:Initiative had Slott and Gage. The cosmic books have DnA. Secret Warriors has Bendis plots and Hickman scripts (I think?)
Lesson: Have Carey script and flesh out Fractions plots.

I disagree. Look at the Simpsons. Some of the most well regarded seasons and episodes were churned out by show-runner and writer duos (Al Jean and Mike Reese and then Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein are the two I'm thinking of) that had been working together for years and continue to do so. It can work. And there are definitely some writers in comics who could stand to have somebody else there with them running interference, filtering the garbage and building on the good material.

Depends on who the writers are. If it was, say, Claremont and Austen, then no thanks. Morrison and Gaiman? Yeah, maybe. Whedon and Fraction? Yeah. Fraction plots, Whedon scripts. It will have all its hip trendy dramatic flair without being overdone.
I really like K & Y and think they work great.
I knew Dark Wolverine would be great because Liu was involved, but I was skeptical with Way being invovled as well. But I think he just shadowed her rather than really contributed to the storyline. I could be wrong though.
But like jarrod said it depends because Uncanny #500 was mediocre and I personally didn't care for Christina Weir and her husband, his name escapes me right now and their work on New X-Men Academy X.

I think that sort of entails hiring an extra writer to do the editor's job. With Way/Liu, it's a crutch for Way since he's a terrible writer and helpful for Liu since she's relatively new to comics.
K&Y seem to have an organic collaboration going on. I don't think you ought to force a good writer to work with a bad one (for example, the idea of good writer Whedon working with bad writer, Fraction), though, and certain personalities (CC) could never collaborate especially if it were mandated.

If 'pairs' would mean the return of Defillipis and Weir to the X-books, then yes please.
Kyle & Yost also seem to work well together on their books.
I think it depends on the writers. There are some writers that do seem to work well together (in addition to the above mentioned two, Willingham and Sturges jump to mind).

Depends, I've known people that accentuate my worse tendencies ('punch him in the mouth man!', 'no dude, cod pieces rock') so I have to think it's not always for the best.

Fraction and Brubaker on Iron Fist!
There's been a lot of successful collaborations in recent memory. I support the act.

I prefer pairs, most books I've preferred have two writers working on it. I think it strengthens the ideas, because they have someone there to tell them their opinion.

And someone to tell them when it's a bad one, at that.

YES - strategy works (http://www.newsarama.com/comics/060926-Wolverine75.html).

:O I actually heard something like that - well, I heard (in the review thread for #75) that this whole run of his was 'mediocre' until the title was changed to Dark Wolverine with Liu, or something. Either way, I loved it and I'm glad the two are working as a duo.
I really like K & Y and think they work great.
I knew Dark Wolverine would be great because Liu was involved, but I was skeptical with Way being invovled as well. But I think he just shadowed her rather than really contributed to the storyline. I could be wrong though.
Check the link I posted ^. Way just wrote the plot out and outlined the scenes while Liu chosed art direction and dialogue. Either way, I also knew that it would be great since Liu was involved!

Screw Batman and Robin - Kyle and Yost are the real dynamic duo. DeFillipis and Weir were also great too.

or take Fraction out of the equation all together.

Matt Fraction might work better with a co-writer on Uncanny (other than Brubaker), who has a better handle on writing the characters. Mike Carey or Chris Yost would be perfect. But does Fraction have too big of an ego for that?
