These are the people who have been slain by the Joker, by my own personal count

Now, this list is far from complete. However, for the sake of this list I'm ignoring anything that happens outside the main books. So the victims of the long Halloween Dark Victory Dark Knight Returns, the joker graphic novel, don't count.

I haven't read every single Joker appearance. So as of right now, these are merely the victim's I've heard about. If anyone has read Joker stories in the main books which include victims I haven't listed, feel free to add them to the list.

This list is very far from complete. It captures some of the named people Joker has killed. But there are so many more unnamed. And many who are named (with at least a first or last name) are not covered.

I don't find such a listing very interesting. If I did, I'd contribute names, as I have nearly all of the Joker appearances. But for me, it suffices to say that Joker has killed so many people.

The Joker doesn't keep count, you know. But Batman does apparently

I know its very very very far from complete as I said. These are the stories I've read/read reviews from. In other words, these are the guys I know about. I assumed that my list would be horribly incomplete. It's only intended as a start, not a complete list.

I'm just happen to be interested in the actual count. I admit I'm probably in the minority on that.

The Clown at Midnight murders, with the exception of the Arkham security types, were mostly committed by Harley. Granted, Joker was responsible for concocting the black/red neurotoxin rose petals and sending her out to kill old henches.

That's a hard call, since the old Charles Manson argument that "I didn't do it" but having been the one who convinced the other person to deliver the final fate still I believe peg Joker as the culprit, and just leave Harley as the delivery person.

Anytime I hear this question asked or brought up, the only thing that comes to mind is this page from DKR. (http://img30.imageshack.us/i/jkrv.jpg/)

Man threads like this aren't good, they make you realize Batman is too f'in idealist and needs to kill this guy.

I'm pretty sure Long Halloween and Dark Victory are "main books" -- canon anyway. However, I can't remember if the Joker actually kills anyone.

They might be canon, but as far as I know neither were originally published in Batman or Detective.

Man, now I feel like an idiot for posting this. No, really I probably shouldn't have done it...

The idea was to list everyone we know the Joker has killed, and see how it lines up with the "thousands upon thousands" of victims he is said to have claimed. Perhaps it was a bad idea to do it, and if so I apologize, and I really hope people don't think too badly of me for it.

That kinda inspired me, to be honest.

As long as you count Death in the Family, include that UN delegate who got caught in his gunfire towards Batman as well.

Sarah Essen-Gordon.
Bill Pettit and an unespecified amount of his Strong Men.
Wax Man (in Road to No Man's Land).
The Wild (ditto).
Three of Nicholas Scratch's henchmen.

I'll add a few later. Short on time right now.

I think this is a pretty cool idea. What about Alex Luthor Jr.?

This might not be very helpful, but there's a line in the Knightfall novelization along the lines of "they say he's killed a thousand citizens."

Also the Royal Flush Gang, although King's case is doubtful since he's supposed to be immortal.

Hitman # 1 says he once gassed a kindergarten full of children to death. But that's debatable since that was said as part of a trap for Tommy Monaghan, and it might have been a fake claim.

I would tend to discount that claim, because it sounds more like a rumour than anything else. My impression is that the claim was something like an exaggerated urban legend playing off the Joker's reputation. Unless of course, either the Joker himself, or someone within the Joker's immediate circle, has also referenced such an incident. (I don't think they have, but I could very well be wrong.)

BUT he did blow up a private elementary school in Batman: Cacophony.

many many people honestly by now you could populate a town maybe a small city with the number of people.

Um, do the deaths caused in the Emperor Joker incident count? Because that racks the bodycount up to at least hundreds of thousands (including Jimmy Olsen, Lex Luthor, and Batman. Several times).

Generally I don't think people count deaths that are undone or reversed by the end of the story they occur in. Except, for some reason, Thanos and killing half the universe in The Infinity Gauntlet. It seems like that always gets brought up when he's being discussed.
