Who's your favourite female character and why?
I have two favourites: Wonder Woman and Princess Projectra.
Wonder Woman because, well, she's Wonder Woman. She's always been the symbol of strong women and proved to little girls everywhere that women can be just as heroic and strong as men.
Princess Projectra because I always loved the concept of her power. Maybe it was the white hair too. I always found that a bit different.
So who are your favourite characters?

I'm starting to come around to Saturn Girl as my favourite, for these (http://legionabstract.blogspot.com/2009/01/legionnaires-saturn-girl.html) reasons.

Power Girl. My favorite superheroine in comics.
Not because of her looks, but because of her take charge, sometimes aggressive, nature. Plus, she's not afraid of affecting the world technologically like Superman is; not afraid to help Earth progress, socially, economically, and technologically. She wants to be more than just a guardian.

Tough...so many wonderful characters right now....Big Barda, Catwoman of course, Huntress, Babs Gordon, Harley Quinn, Scandal Savage, Renee Montoya...hmm...but I suppose it would have to be:

Scarlet Witch.
But keeping it DC-based, I've always loved Big Barda, Zatanna and Donna Troy. Barda because she's a powerful, independent female character who subverts the standard man/female comic book relationship. Zatanna because I love magical characters. Donna because of the incredible work Wolfman and Perez did in the 80's Teen titans series transforming her into one of the strongest characters in the DCU.

Of those currently around, Gail Simone's Wonder Woman has been looking good lately.
As for my true favorite, I can only hope she still exists somewhere on one of the 52 Earths: Marie Thirteen, Dr. Terrence Thirteen's non-Asian-therefore-not-Traci's-mother wife. http://absorbascon.blogspot.com/2007_05_27_archive.html <scroll down.> I can't analyze why, but Terry and Marie as a couple have resonated with me since I first met them in Phantom Stranger #5 (1960s--1970s version). He's a better person when she's with him.
.
Three that come to mind?
Mary Marvel has nearly been ruined for me by Countdown and the fallout there of, or she'd definitely be in the top ten. I'm still not convinced she's salvaged despite what I've heard of JSA. I remember her fondly from earlier days. She was nice, she was fun, yes...she was innocent, but she also was noble.
Zatanna for sheer sex appeal gets points, but she's also got a lot of depth, power levels that are truly scary, and a wry sense of humor depending on who is writing. She's got panache.
And I've got nothing but respect for Oracle/Barbara for all she's been through and how she made herself THE information hub of the superhero world. Seriously, all that willpower, you have to wonder what she could do with a Green Lantern ring. :)
Tora Olafsdotter, aka Ice. Mainly because she's one of the truly nicest characters in DCU.

My favorite female superhero is a Marvel character.
Of the ones at DC, though, I suppose it would be either Wonder Woman, Mary Marvel (before every other writer decided they had to do their version of a corruption story), or Saturn Girl.

Nice essay. It intersting to note that the pre-crisis Legion brain trust was essentially Brainiac 5, Irma and Dream Girl. I can't think of another team book that let the girls play with test tubes along with the boys.
Wonder Woman's smart-but she was never the designated brain for the JLA. That was either Ray or Barry in the Bronze Age.
I'm a big fan of your blog, btw.
Favorite female hero overall, Vixen with Black Canary a close second.

20th century: Starfire. Always lover her for her beauty and her passion. What a fighter! Unfortunately, nothing has gone right for her since her wrecked wedding with Nightwing 1994. Her recent "understanding" with Dick in Titans was ridiculous, and I don't know what has been happening with her since. Skipped Titans and did not buy Animal Man.
30th century: Not sure which of the Legionnaires to choose. Always likes Phantom Girl, and as a kid I had the hots for Light Lass and Princess Projectra. If I had to decide it would probably still be Light(ning) Lass Ayla Ranzz, in the classic version until Zero Hour of course. Her codename in the Archie Legion was Spark (!!!), oh my god I hated that...

Surprising Huntress as gotten so many votes but add another one also Donna Troy.I used to like her a lot in the 80s but now her origin and history has become to convoluted.
Hawkman

Hawkworld Hawkwoman, Shayera Thal. Still miffed to this day at the way she was offed in Rann-Thanagar War. If deceased don't count, though, then Kendra "Hawkgirl" Saunders.
I know; you're all shocked.
My overall favorite is Starfire. However, honorable mentions go to:
Blackfire (go figure)
Talia
Big Barda
Wonder Woman
Just to change things up, who is your favorite heroine and who is your favorite villainess?

Oh, man, I forgot when I posted earlier how much I love Infectious Lass. She is, admittedly a minor character, a joke character, but that first conversation she had when she first met Porcupine Pete, about what her powers were, made me a fan for life.
