The Beast remains one of my favorite Marvel characters. I want to read some stories with him as a member of the Avengers. Which stories are the best? Beast-centric Avengers stories are even better.

The Serpent Crown Saga: Issues 141-149 and also available as a trade. The Beast has just joined the team so he gets a bit of the spotlight. The story also ties together some of the elements from his pre-Avengers appearances.

Beast-centric Avengers stories are even better. He joined provisionally in #137, officially in #151, and left in #211, but there's not a ton of his appearances in trade. Books had tighter continuity back then and he would often leave to go play with the X-Men.

One that is that's really fun is the Serpent Crown, which collects Avengers #141-144, 147-149.

One of the more Beast-centric issues was Avengers #178:

One of my favorites, though, was Avengers #203, which was a fun Hank/Simon team-up:

I just read #203, cool issue.

Around those issues is a cool Human Torch cameo too.

#206 was the one I was thinking of. It features Johnny Storm. Some wonderful Colan art and a few of the classic Beast lines.

Some good issues mentioned...

Honestly, I thought the Avengers books were where Beast shined the most as a character. Followed closely by the Defenders, and then X-Factor. With his return to the X-Men and then the Legacy Virus, he's really been in a rut. Still hoping that Bendis and the Avengers office manages to steal him back after the fallout of what's going on in the X-Books hits the fan. It would be better for the character in the long run.

I'm a fan of Hank McCoy, as well. He really was at his best as an Avenger, IMO. I'd recommend an arc that ran from vol. 1 #'s 154-55-56 and Super-Villain Team-Up #9, which featured Dr.Doom and the Sub-Mariner- a really good story. Also, Super-Villain Team-Up #14 ( the final issue, story cont'd in the Champions series), featuring Doom vs. Magneto, with the Beast left as the last Avenger standing after Mags TRASHES the team.
