Considering that Dini has been doing a fair amount of Harley Quinn stories recently in Detective, who do you think does writes a better mainstream DCU Quinn?
Karl Kesel of the Harley Quinn series or the creator Paul Dini?

Kessel's run was fun for what it was but I think Dini has a proper grasp on the character. I cannot wait to see what he does with her on a monthly basis.

I liked Dini's Harley so much I never really warmed up to Kessel's, though I faithfully bought every issue for at least the first 2 dozen (if it made it that far).

Wasn't she Dini's creation to begin with? In any event, I've enjoyed every past outing Harley and Dini have given us, and I'm looking forward hopefully to Gotham City Sirens.

That's my understanding.

Harley was originally written by Dini and Bruce Tamm for Batman the animated series circa 1990. She later had Mad Love and a few short out of continuity stories. Then during No Man's land she made her formal intros to the DCU proper.

I liked Harley Quinn #1-21 more than any of the Dini written DCU pieces.

They both are great. I wish they would finish releasing the Dodson run on the HQ series. It was really terrific. I didn't like what Dini did with Harley during Countdown, but other than that he generally has a good handle on the character. I'm stoked for Gotham City Sirens.

I much prefer Harley when she isn't with MJ, which is why I liked her series and her appearances in 'Tec so much.

Thank you!

And seriously, making Harley Quinn go back to Joker is the ultimate form of fan service. It had its run in Mad Love and the animated series. It's time to make the character grow.

They tried to make the character grow in countdown, and it well, just like the rest of countdown. Kinda a mess.

I think we can all agree on Countdown sucked. That doesn't mean that Harl's appearances in Detective or Birds of Prey or in Gotham City Sirens have no value.

Personally, I think Harley kinda falls flat when she has a long run away from someone else's shadow. She's ultimately built to be a sidekick figure and there's relatively little else to her beyond that.

It doesn't need to be Joker (Ivy works fine as well), but when they try to make her her own woman, it never works well.

Harley belongs to Dini

I see that and I agree. I can't see Harley running her own work like someone like Luthor. I know she works better when she is part of a team. I prefer her with Ivy because Ivy is less likely to push her down the stairs. Harley's moments with Joker were fun but they were always at her expense. It was interesting for awhile and I am glad that TPTB saw that.
