I have been going to the Comic Cons for the last decade and watched as somethings have improved(like panels, retrospectives, company upfronts, etc) and others(the otaku/cosplay crowd has carved their own piece of the comic con pie) have taken a nose dive IMO.
I have talked to Jaime Hernandez about artistic vision, and knowing when you need to stick to your guns, and if you stand by your work you do not have to apologize for it.
I have also seen George Perez sit in the corner and draw, still at the con after a logistical nightmare had occurd involving the when and where he was to do signings and finally finding him to have his PA speak for him, giving me the cold shoulder. Not even taken 15 seconds to sign my copy of Crisis OIE, that Marv Wolfman had signed the year before with a kind nature. But hell, that is apart of the comic con experiance.
Just to clarify one thing, the San Diego Comic Con International is not a comic con, it is a media con. Just a physical teaser trailer for the bloated media giants. Something like Heroes Con, or even Dragon Con is a comic con.
