Summer Camp Time! The Quintessential New X-Man

Hello all....

i thought it was time...:)

Who is the quintessential member from our beloved youth group?

A few things....

Due to the large cast, this post was a bit complex to put together.

Gentle and Prodigy are in the same slot, along with the supporting cast kids. If You want either or a supporting kid...just vote in that slot, then post your choice in the forum. They can be tallied up. i felt that Prodigy and Gentle were pretty-much members in KY's run.....but not full-cooked members for much of it. Sure, Elixir was kicked off near the end....but i still felt he remained prominent...plus his great role in X-Force.

Offering some rationale on why they are, to You, the quintessential New X-Man would be great. Most of these characters are fairly new to the scene compared to others...so the conversation should be interesting.

For all You New X-Men bashers....i have a surprise option at the end that will hopefully pacify everyone :).

Not just because he's my favorite youth member. My vote for quintessential new mutant wasn't my favorite.

Anole reminds me of Kitty Pryde and Peter Parker, while being himself of course. i think he is the character of all of them to have a bright future ahead of him.

X-23 also...but, to be honest, i never saw her as a complete fit on the team. She also has some extra help with her Logan connection. Nonetheless...she fit the criteria.

i don't care who wins. i am more interested in why people choose who they choose. What makes a character quintessential or not quintessential to them.

X-23 was technically a full-fledged member so she deserves to be on the poll.

If she ends up winning, savor the feel-good. it's neither here nor there to me.

i like her character fine, but she isn't what i think of as the embodiment of the New X-Men.

As for her being the most popular....might be true...but she has tons of help....being KY's pet...as well as Wolverine connections. Yes, i feel she was shoehorned in also. Her creators wanted to use her. Which is fine, i spose.

Nothing wrong with that...but for me, it doesn't equal her being the quintessential X-Man.

Thor is a more popular character than Wasp (Janet), but i consider her more a quintessential Avenger than Thor.

Cuckoos, Armor, etc were just cameos. They set up that Armor would possibly join the team after MC but then got cancelled.

Now that the team has basically been split the only characters we really see are X-23, Pixie, and Armor. With Elixar as recent X-Force addition and Rockslide and Anole have the most frequant speaking cameos.

Dust is the only correct answer. X-23 is the popular choice for badassery of course but when you think of NXm you think of Dust. She has been there since Morrison. She has the most senority out of everyone.

X-23 came on as K&Y's pet killer trying to find her way. She even learned from Sooraya.

Sofia was the first student introduced, was co-leader of the New Mutants, and had at least some ties to each of the principal characters.

Gentle I think had about as many lines as Loa, so I'm not even considering his ass.

As far as who I like, I think X-23 sucked as an emo cutter New X-Man but is growing as one of my favorite characters in X-Force, Hellion and Surge were only fun under N&C and Anole, Pixie and Elixir were only interesting under K&Y.

I find Prodigy and Mercury to be my least favorites out of all of them, and think the two to be very boring and 92% annoying.

Let me rearrange that.

As most interesting and unique characters, I see the Stepford Cuckoos, Dust, Mercury, Hellion, X-23, Blindfold, Wither, Cipher, Wither and Wind Dancer. I guess I should also add Anole, even though he's been rubbing me the wrong way lately. The right way would be softer.
* I should also point out that I would LOVE to have a mutant with water powers as well.

Character's I'm not sure about are really Gentle, Loa, Indra, Elixir, Armor, Trance, Match and Prodigy. I actually LIKE all of them, but I can't actually call them unique.

For least interesting and generic characters, I also see Quentin Quire, Beak, Glob Herman, Ernst, No-girl and Ink mostly because of what you pointed up (especially Ernst - it's been annoying me now). Sadly, I have to agree with Surge, Graymalkin and Rockslide. The one thing I have to agree with 100% is Pixie.

She's about as fun as Pixie was when she was first introduced, but is not a mutant fairy, which depending on your perspective is better or worst.

But my criteria for putting them there is what i just stated.

i chose the KY run because there are simply too many characters to focus from New Mutants vol. 2 on. If any of You have a beef with that...just create Your own poll for Academy X.

So Dust, X-23, and Anole are the top three by far. i have always said those characters are the ones with the most potential for longevity. Cool!

Icarus had nothing to do with Wallflower's death. She was already on Stryker's hit list.

You could say that because Icarus told Stryker when the bus would leave, which led to the bus explosion, which led to Elixir feeling useless since he couldn't save anyone there, and Elixir's feelings of impotency were the reason the two of them were walking outside when she got shot. But that's a really big stretch.

They will then proceed to make fun of Pixie due to the prono she made with Rockside and Anole being leaked onto the net. Out of nowhere Esme Cuckoo and Tattoo reappear and is all "Hey Bitches.
