Best stuff Marvel is doing nowadays.

Any faves?

I like the Jason Aaron story in Wolverine. It's a two-parter though concluding this week. The other story kind of sucked.

I'm only getting the ones by Creative Teams i like ~ i thought the story on the Cap one was a little weak/Generic, but the Namor one was fantastic.
Which one is Roger Stern writing? he posted a preview a week or 2 back on here

I hope they make a Mystic Comics 70th anniversary one-shot about the Blazing Skull.

So far, the Captain America Comics one-shot has the best art and the Marvel Mystery Comics one-shot is the most fun. Whatever possesed Tom DeFalco to bring back Ferret, of all characters?

I love the history of Marvel.
I wish they would publish more stories set in the past and stop pulling their historical characters into the present age.

"Jim Barnes—formerly Bucky and now Captain America—discovers that two old friends from the war are still alive. And as he's tracking them down, we discover the truth about the 'Young Allies.'"
:frown: I'm sure I'll enjoy the story in spite of that, but I'd have preferred it if the Young Allies didn't reference current mainstream 616 continuity at all...
I'm getting all of the Golden-Age-era 70th Anniversary stories partly because they're not connected to all the current stuff. Wrestling with the upcoming Marvels Project, which though I love Golden Age stuff, sounds like it's going to be more like Ultimatum than Kurt Busiek's Marvels.

I agree... it was a lot of fun (even if there was no real reason for Angel to be in the story).
And Ferret? That is one GA character I had never heard of, and I can see why based on the reprint story. That was an awful (but I still loved it) story. Did he appear more than just the once?

... especially in the case of Whitewash, I hope that their backstories give them a more dignified retcon... and if he's still alive, what would he say to Falcon, Luke Cage, etc... did he know about Isaiah Bradley?

I've been really enjoying them all so far. Hard to pick a favourite but I think the Captain America issue and the Namor one were both awfully good. It's also nice that they've been featuring an original Golden Age story as a back-up. I'm a massive Silver Age fan but I've read next to no Golden Age Marvel, so it's very interesting for me to finally read some. I can't say that the Golden Age stories have worn very well over the years but they’re still nice to read from a historical standpoint.
I have a question for Roger Stern (and anyone else at Marvel) or anyone in the forum who's knowledgeable about the Golden Age...have any of the Golden Age reprints in these 70th Anniversary one-shots been doctored to remove material or images that might be politically incorrect by today’s standards?
I ask, because there was a panel in the Human Torch one-shot of three circus guys who had been coloured to look like Caucasians, but I couldn’t help but wonder if in the original comic these were actually African-Americans? There's something about the way they're drawn that made me think that perhaps they were originally racial caricatures of African-Americans, complete with large white eyes and thick lips, in a style reminiscent of Ebony White from the Will Eisner “The Spirit” strips.
Here's a scan, what do folks think?

...I really am enjoying the 70th Anniversary books, with the sole complaint being that the Sgt. Fury book isn't the first issue of a regular ongoing series. We older readers deserve a good old-fashioned "WWII was a just and *fun* war" book again.
