A couple of years ago, DC was standing at the edge of an abyss. Today, they've come a step forward.

Agreed. The Batman and superman and Green lantern franchises are mega and making mega dollars.
They still have plenty of underrated hits that need more readers like REBELS, The Mighty and Secret six.
Wednesday comics should be huge, In size and scope"!

I have to agree. Two years ago I was reading Marvel ONLY, with a dash of Batman occasionally. I got on board with Sinestro Corps war, and since then, my DC reading has blossomed to the point where I'm following GL, the Flash, Batman, some Supes, and Booster Gold, Jonah Hex and Blue Beetle, natch.
My trade buying is almost exclusively DC these days (but perhaps that's because I had already bought/collected every Spider-Man/FF/X-Men I could get my hands on in the course of the past 10 years).

Seconded. One small leap for Didio...

DC is getting its act together, and I like both companies doing well.

Still DC is nagging, they are content with being number 2..
Marvel has all the cards and a "Check" each and everytime they can be compared to chess.
Marvel IMO is just the same in Storytelling potential since these two companies generally have writers that jump ship from one to the other..
DC's disadvantage though is their editorial decision in making everything seem cohenrent that it creates a shackle on the writers creativity..
Add to the fact that Marvel has way superior marketing even dating back to the 60's

I'm confused by this. Are you saying that Marvel isn't afraid to be incoherent?

DC has tried to make many steps forward as a whole since Identity Crisis. At the time when I personally got back into comics as a whole after not reading since really young, that story alone did set a tone for what was to come. Darker? Yes. But also in trying to tear down the cookie cutter image that all of the various characters had in a strange comic book fashion. It stands out for me as a guy who was primarily familiar with Marvel (namely X-men) beforehand for what I was used to with comics. Athough the story wasn't spectacular, it did make me interested in following DC for all of the people it showcased when I picked it up.
After the fallout and lead ups to IC from that event, I thought they were mostly well done in execution. I got hooked as a new reader and wanted to see how things played out on a greater scale, and collected TPB's from before because it hooked my initial interest. The cookie cutter image & stereotype I had of DC (while unfamiliar with it at the time) with all these iconic, yet still flawed personas grabbed me. Since then, the majority of titles I follow and purchase have been DC, while my casual interest has me follow some Marvel titles.
Recently, DC has screwed up in the editorial department with what could be done storywise, provided writers and artists were given the chance to go where they wanted for this or that title. The blame cannot be affixed to anyone in particular cough cough DD, but the disagreements and overwrites between writers and ed's seems to have led to an unseemly continuity of ideas in the DCU and resulted in somewhat disconnected manner of storytelling in the greater scheme of things. Namely, big name writers walking over what the others vision for a particular title from another writer, as fall out after a big company wide event. In the end, some things seem rewritten or hastily retconned from where they were depicted elsewhere by editorial mandate.

In my view, aside from Justice Society (and many probably will disagree) they haven't done much good.
Recent launches of Warlord and Power Girl started strong but now Warlord looks sketchy to me. They keep switching artists and Grell is doing no penciling at all. Not a good way to keep reader interest in a title without a stable creative team.

I too am happy for them. Getting hold of the Milestone and Archie heroes may yet prove to be a smart move for them. And I cant wait for the Batwoman Detective arc.

Batman and Robin will be the biggest selling title this year. That or Blackest Night #1.

They got me reading the Superman titles again, and that is a pretty impressive feat.

I think there's a lot DC is still doing wrong. Thank God all that "crisis" stuff is over. Batman and Superman, along with Green Lantern are all very strong titles. Secret Six rocks.
The JLA is a mess though. Wonder Woman, despite a top tier writer and excellent artist, isn't sell well. It's time to give that book the Jim Lee bump. Flash is still standing on the edge of the abyss in my opinion. Bringing back Barry MIGHT work, but I still think anyone but Wally (without kids) isn't going to sell very well.
Green Arrow and Black Canary should have been great, but it was very badly handled. And the Titans/Teen Titans books aren't great either.
So it's still more bad than good right now, but I hope it continues to improve.

I think DC has really just been great lately. They have kept the REAL feeling of comic book while still having major events (other than Final Crisis which was a setback IMO) like Sinestro Corps War. The GL has been AMAZING lately, the JSA has been fantastic, i actually started reading Batman again, Superman is great, just everything is marvelous now (ironic right? marvelous. Get it?)

I'm glad DC is doing well. Not only have their comics been doing well, but they are really succeeding in breaking out of the box that they have been in for awhile. The Mortal Kombat vs DC game sold well and exposed a new group of people to the DCU. I remember following the midway forums before the game was released and kids were like "oh, so & so sucks" or "Marvel is better", but when the game came out people actually liked some of the characters and changed their tune. DC also have a massive MMO game coming out (DCU Online), which is another great way to peak people's interest get them immersed in the DCU. They are also breaking the Superman/Batman mold by introducing a Green Lantern film franchise, which I am very excited about. And as far as the books go, aside from the slightly dissapointing Final Crisis, most everything else i've read has been fairly solid. And with Blackest Night coming out (without a huge Marvel counterpart) they might even provide a stiffer competition with marvel.

Besides Batman, I used to be mainly a Marvel reader. To me, DC really started to become appealing with Identity Crisis and the superb long and well co-ordinated lead up to Infinite Crisis. It's because of that I dropped most of my marvel and started picking up much more DC.

I don't think DC has has come very far.
Out of the Superman books I dropped Action Comics and Superman and only buy World of Krypton because that has, you know, Superman in it. Over in the Batman books I'm buying Batman and Robin, Detective, and maybe a 3rd Batman book but that's pretty much it.
Dropped JLA, I don't have any interest in the Final Crisis Aftermath books and if I do I'm not going to pick them up on a monthly basis (I'd rather trade wait). Teen Titans still sucks and I have no idea what they're doing with the Flash books.
So all they've done is raise my interest in the Batman books due to Morrison, Rucka, and Dini but lowered my interest on a lot of other books.
