View Full Version : What if Grant did get all the characters he wanted in New X-Men

How do you think things "storywise" would have been different If he had gotten his intended team of Professor Xavier, Cyclops, Jean Summers, Colossus, Wolverine, Moira Macttagart, but both moira & colossus were dead at the time.

What he ended up with was Professor Xavier, Cyclops, Jean Summers, Emma Frost (who was given a Colossus type power), Wolverine & Beast (2nd choice to moira)

This is what I think what would have happened,
Charles & Moira: would have played off each other cause they were the founders of the school
Scott & Jean: would have played off each other as the married couple
Colossus & Wolverine: would have played off each other as the best friends (bromance)

According to his interview in From the Creators on X-Men, Grant wanted Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Wolverine, and Storm. Claremont was given Storm for X-Treme though so he used Emma instead.

I know Colossus and Moira were in his original treatment as well.

I can't imagine that book without Emma.

I don't want to. That was Emma Frost at her absolute BEST and she made that series what it is.

Yeah, I agree. I also wonder how would Scott and Jean's relationship turn out without Emma there. Would he use Storm in the "other woman" role?

He also planned to include Rogue. Planned to kill her, and bring in a new version...

A Gothy Teenager. Which I assume would have been similar to X-Men Evolution's Rogue.

I don't believe his initial plan included another woman. At the beginning of his run he had stated that Jean Grey was one of his favorite characters. By the end of his run he had said that Jean Grey reminded him of his ex-girlfriend and Emma was like his current one. Perhaps the whole story was some kind of therapy for him in the end.

it's ironic that morrison put scott thru the emotional ringer because he wanted to loosen him up but now scott is more of an uptight jerk than ever before.

I think using Storm instead would have been better on the long run, I think. Emma was great during Morrison' run but ever since he left she has become overused by everybody.

I'm so glad Morrison could not use the characters he wanted because having him reach into the limbo pool for Emma was the best thing that he did in his run in my opinion. I just think it's unfortunate that the writers using her now don't understand how to write a real bitch. Seriously, not that hard! Hell, I'll provide her dialogue if it's really that hard to understand.

But, I feel like writers would have something to say on Colossus if he had him instead of Whedon just using him to be the flat boyfriend of Buf- I mean Shadowcat.

It seems like the intended team would not be as interesting as the team Morrison ended up with. Though, he seemed to do very well with a team that was not his primary selection.. so it probably still would have been good with his preferred team.

If Jean was always meant to die at the end.. or near the end.. I wonder if Scott was going to end up with Moira, instead of Emma?

To be fair, that treatment was always a very rough treatment and having read it, it was all over the shop in terms of his character choices. It didn't do any harm to the run as a whole tightening it up a little in terms of characters he could and couldn't use.

I would have loved more SAGE though.

Well, the X-Books would be without Emma Frost. Who I think, was a miracle (and has been until last year) that rejuvenated the X-line and gave it a new face. I think the X-books would've had trouble progressing... Emma was not only a fantastic addition, I think her joining the X-Men was like a catalyst for all the other major changes in the X-Books that have occured during this decade. It became acceptable to make radical changes and progress yet keep the X-books generally the same.

I think Jean and Scott would've stayed together, yet still somehow faced relationship troubles, an other woman could've still been a possibility, but nothing like the Emma/Scott/Jean love triangle. I think it would've been more likely if there was another man, actually. And Jean would've still died in the end. :frown:

I could see Moira leaving as soon as Xavier. Not leaving a major impact, she was always a supporting character. Plus, the female cast would've had no dynamic... Jean-Moira? Yawn.

Colossus? Would've been a waste of space. What actually happened to him this decade was good for the character. Perhaps... Morrison could've thought up of some other radical changes for the character...

Emma Frost would've probably reverted tr being a villain in some X-Treme X-Men come back story. Beast would've never gotten the right amount of exposure and would be in the same position as Nightcrawler, Angel or Iceman are right now.

Everything else would've stayed the same. The school aspect would still be there until a Messiah Complex type event, same goes for the growing mutant sub-culture (until HoM) and so on.

I think it could have been interesting. We need more gun toting maid Moira. I personally found his Emma was too bitchy and somewhat bordering on just plain mean.

Wouldn't surprise me, that's basically how he approached The Invisibles.

I hated his idea for zombie Rogue, but then again I've really disliked most the unwritten Morrison and Millar plots I've seen. Maybe it's just the way they describe their pitches, or maybe they are (mostly) improved by editorial limitations. I'm not sure. Usually, I like the end-product though. It's one reason why I can't judge his initial plans. I have no idea how they would have played out. I think most of what we know was less of a worked out story plan and more brainstorming.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that he had an idea or plan at one point that would have involved Namor becoming the school's headmaster too. Does anybody else remember that, or is this just a fabrication of my over-tired and Namor worshiping brain?
