It's good to see Karma and Dazzler looking up to Emma like that, emulating her every pose and move by defiantly putting their hands on their hips.
Seriously, Land, 3 characters... one panel... one pose, and there's no Stepford Cuckoos excuse this time. Laziest man in the industry.

maybe she's experiencing a bout of body dysmorphia - hence the lack of skin anywhere except her face. or maybe she's embracing some new religion and can't show off her body.
i'm honestly surprised greg land even approved of this look in the first place.

I'm just not sure I understand what the point of putting Psylocke back in her old body was?
And why would they need a spell to locate Jean's body if it's in Westchester. I would have assumed that was fairly obvious

I like the page of Storm, despite being anatomically awkward. At least she's doing something!
Karma looks pretty the first time she appears because she has the exact same trace as both Emma and Dazzler. But in her second appearance, the editors must have been like "Ok, Land, this is a front view. They aren't the Cuckoos, switch their faces. So Land erased Karma and Dazzler's faces and replaced Karma with Sloth from the Goonies and Dazzler with Generic Seductive Pornstar #2. Karma looks seriously FUG there. Emma's elongated torso never turns out into hips... and those poses are just... ew, stop, Land. Just stop.
The pages with the guys in the X-Jet weren't bad. Looks like he traced Cassaday for Wolverine and Cyclops, so it looks nice at least...
And the panel of Psylocke attacking Emma is a nice image. It seems Land enjoys tracing women that have breasts emerging from their backs this issue. Its pretty nice....

So far, so good. Certainly better than the rest of the storyarc.
With "Maddy" using the lock of hair to apperantly find Jean, makes me wonder if we're gonna get another Phoenix coccoon discovery. With Jean's spirit turning up last issue from the White Hot Room, and the Phoenix Fragments flying off for parts unknown in War of the Kings.... we'll hopefully see Jean's return this issue. Or at least what will lead to it. Just can't wait for the Sisterhead Snoozefest to finally be over with.
Can't wait for Uncanny #512 though, so glad the book is coming out twice this month.

This shit is getting tired.
Well I'm glad that other women aside from Emma are being shown. I just hope that these aren't the only pages that we see Dazzler, Storm and Karma in. Hopefully they actually get to talk and fight in this issue. I'm looking forward to seeing how this arc just. I just hope that they keep Psylocke in her british body when it's all over.

Oh my... this preview could have been amazing... but the glaring traces on the SAME page make me want to hurt people:
It could be that I just woke up and still a bit cranky...but really....
Page 7: Emma, Dazzler, and one of the Masterminds are the same source woman!!! Karma is likely copied too, just tilted a bit! 4 people on ONE page!
Page 5: The bottom two panels are basically the same.
Page 4: Emma, Karma, and Dazzler - same source trace.... Emma bottom face close-up... is of post coital bliss....
Page 3: Who taught these bitches how to walk? WHAT is going on? The first panel is all supermodel (Spiral wearing the latest in bikini briefs), but then the lowermost is all rave (hands in the air or behind your butt).
I'm done.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Jean take her body with her when she took off for the WHR?Meaning there is nothing for the sisterhood to find?Or is "Maddie" trying to recreate a Jean body using the hair's DNA (or something like that)?

That's what I'm thinking is really going on. She's going to clone a new 'Maddie'. I hope she does. It's the best thing about this arc is having Maddie as a possible ongoing threat.

wow SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN. i'm actually excited. x-men fighting back for the first time in months. i don't like that he said "Kwannon's body". that's not Kwannon's body. Psylocke's coloring is off though, the whole thing shouldn't be bland purple. And of course they're going to switch her back or else the Asian body wouldn't conveniently be in the room. Fraction must not know what he's doing. Why is Betsy always striking with her Psychic knife like it's fire or something. It wouldn't do anything physically yet she used it on Wolverine and now diamond Emma...
I don't like Karma being pushed on us like Pixie. But I do like the X-women together and the X-men separated.

The symbolism is rife with significance and heavy with meaning!
Dodson has her labelled as the Black Queen in his art...that has me a bit worried as if she'd ever take such a code name.

So what are the odds that Psylocke will actually keep her British body after all this is over? I kinda think her Brit body will start decaying again or otherwise start rejecting her, thus forcing her back into her Asian body and thus squelching any plans on resurrecting Jean's body for whatever mind transfer switcheroo the Sisterhood had planned.

If she does get put back into her old body by the X-telepaths or via some other reason that would indeed be dumb story telling. They could have left the mind switching Kwannon thing out and made the story a lot less convoluted.

They are the same. Fraction is the written equivalent of Land. I find them to be a perfect team.
Actually I'll have to disagree with you there. Loeb is the writing equivalent of Land. Fraction's Iron Fist and Thor were very very good, and for the most part his Iron Man is solid. It's just his X-men book that isn't so great. Everything Loeb does has been bad for a while. And for as much as people criticize Land, not all of his images are bad. The recent cover for Captain Britain and MI:13 is a solid cover if you can get over the fact that he probably traced it from somewhere. Same thing for the cover of this issue. It's the porn faces at inopportune moments, the laziness, Plagiarism and Image stealing that is my problem. How hard is it to hire your own models and take your own pics? It's not at all I hire models every month for my clothing line...it's not hard at all. Not every panel is bad though. Only certain ones...sometimes the bad can take up the good majority of the comic, sometimes it comes off beter than others.

to be fair, other writers who were fan favorites have struggled writing the x-men, like brubaker, milligan, and austen (yes, he was liked at one point, which is why he as given the reins to uncanny). something about the x-men makes them a writer's trap.

I'm not sure what it is. Taking over a book like the X-Men is a big pressure given how vocal the fanbase is and how they never really seem to be satisfied with a particular writer for very long. But then again the writer needs to be very focused and know their continuity because some of that stuff can bite them in the ass, it's happened to the best of them.
I think Mike Carey is the only one that I've seen around here get a more universal type of praise here. What's interesting is that Matt Fraction avoids the internet at all costs when it comes to X-Men. The closest one can really go to contacting him or being more noticeably vocal to him would either be to e-mail him or to post on jinxworld.com's forums.

They were both drawn by Salvador Larroca so I could see why there was confusion there.

Has there been a run that fans, in general, have liked besides Claremont's? i suppose there is Morrison, but he was on Adjectiveless (New) X-Men technically.
Has there been any writer on Uncanny since Claremont left that at least half the fans enjoyed?
i am seriously asking this. i wasn't around for much of the 90s...i only read here and there...and what i read was uninspiring to me.
It seems that each writer's work runs from being a tad dull to botched tranny trainwreck.
The Avengers have tons of continuity, and it doesn't have this issue. Heck, Spiderman survived one of the biggest retcons of all time.

Dazzler's BIGGEST SCENE EVAR will more than likely happen in the last 2 pages. She and Nortstar will be sitting in the back of the Blackbird sipping cocktails and talking shit about the X-Men like they normally do. Those will more than likely be the best thing that happens in this arc.
I'm rather excited to see this alleged epic scene with Dazzler.
Is SHE going to take down the Hallucina-Sisters?
Dazzler will be POKEMON in this issue, I'm sure of it.
After the unprecedented success of the SISTERHOOD STRIKE (the text is in purple because this is Psylocke's trumphant return, after all), the X-Women will be disoriented and scattered. Emma, being the amazing field leader she is, will order Dazzler to distract their foes at which point Alison will get her very own dialogue-less splash page of FULL DIVASPARKLY BLINDING BRILLIANCE.
On the next page without explanation, Dazzler, Storm and Karma will be unconcious (rendered as such off-panel, of course) leaving body-builder Emma and Pixie (wait, where did she come from???) to save the day. Pixie will then stab Psylocke in the forehead with her Soul Sword and declare "THIS is how you use a knife, you sodding cow!" thus freeing her from mind control (but rendering her unconscious, of course). Emma will rant about the Mastermind sisters' low class tops a bit before shirtless Cyclops and Wolverine show up and flex their pecs whilst arguing about Jean. Their sullen/angry gazes will be copied/pasted/enlarged/cropped into various panels over the next several pages before the aspiring Star Trek transporter Spiral teleports onto the battle scene with the new Red Queen/Jean in tow. The Red Queen will say something inane like "the Phoenix has risen again, WORM!" and the last panel will consist Cyclops, Wolverine, Pixie and Emma (or is it a Cuckoo? Dazzler? Lady Mastermind?) battle-posing on one side with the Red Queen on the other, o-faces abounding.
EPIC.

Lobdell was poopoo'd pretty hard retroactively, and there were definite gripers during his tenure. The X-Men got more popular around that time, but due largely to external influences (chiefly TAS).

Yeah, I was kidding about Kavanaugh. His name isn't even mentioned when people talk about Uncanny writers. They think Claremont, Lobdell, Seagle, Claremont. That run was pretty forgettable.
And I was really excited for Joe Casey's run, but the lack of females at the beginning bothered me and Ian Churchill's art. I was like whuh? Get someone on Frank Quitely's level. I swear, if Sean Phillips did Casey's entire run, we'd get better stuff out of Casey the entire time instead of the end. Not saying that I didn't like Ron Garney. I loved his new style then, it was Jim Lee-y but done in a monthly way.
And how could people hate the art in Kavanaugh's run? We had Adam Kubert, Tom Raney, and Jim Cheung. Kubert's Illyana was beautiful. Remember that two issue arc where Colossus and Marrow went to the art museum? That charcoal/pastel double page spread of Mikhail Rasputing as a ghost was neat to look at.

Well....after reading some posts here and in mail....just to clarify...
i wasn't intending to put Claremont on a pedestal. i think it is an honest observation, however, that his initial run is the only one that gets all around praise. Whether it deserves it or not is another issue. It seems those who wrote Uncanny after his first run, including Claremont himself, weren't accepted as good stories by the general reading population. i am not saying the stories themselves were bad...i haven't read many of them. i also have characters and stories i enjoy that are considered unpopular.
i am asking because i haven't read the totality of the stories. i've read much of Austen's in collected form, which i didn't like, Brubakers, some of which i liked, and Fraction. i am more interested in why stories past Claremont's first run don't seem to be accepted.
Is it fan expectations? Something to do with the writer's approach? A mixture of both? i don't really know. i just think the history of Uncanny is quite an interesting one.

Psylocke's psi-knife overloads the nervous system, in Diamond Form Emma has a diamond nervous system and her diamond form disperses/suppresses psi energy via adamantine luster. She also can't feel anything in Diamond Form which suggests that her nervous system becomes redundant. It wouldn't work on her, much like it wouldn't work on Sabertooth because his nervous system was buggered/scarred after having an adamantium claw through his brain.

And now a preview of Uncanny X Men Abridged...but first a recap brought to us by Pixie
Pixie: Oh it was SOOOO cool! X-23 was in trouble and I was all like "PIXIE APPEAR!" and I saved everyone and I totally murdered this weird guy we keep locked in our basement with my soul dagger but it's okay because I can do THIS (Anime eyes, sparkles)
Edward Cullen: hey! You stole my motif!
Pixie: GASP! SPARKLY! PIXIE HUG! (Leaps him)
Dr Light: Oh sure when I do that to young boys I get in trouble. But when SHE does it...
With that over and done with...
X PLANE!
Scott: I AM RAGE PERSONIFIED.
Wolverine: I REFUSE TO EXPLAIN THE LOCK OF HAIR ON MY DRESSER.
Both: GRRRRR.
Northstar: Just feel the yaoi tension! Say Colossus I don't suppose...
Colossus: For the last time comrade! I swing that way only in Ultimate universe!
Scot: He was keeping a lock of her hair. I enjoy stating the obvious over and over.
SISTERHOOD!
Red Queen: They'll soon know where we are...somehow. We must hurry! Especially as they'll be missed about us raping their minds like they were Brandon Teena and we were the guys who sodomised her!
All: GASP!
Red Queen: Too soon?
Reagan: Can we let that joke die already?
Red Queen: What like your father? BURN!
Spiral: Why do we need to run? Didn't we beat them all easily last time?
Red Queen: No time for logic!
Spiral: Yes mistress.
Deathstrike: Oh sure when YOU do it it's fine...
Spiral: Not now honey!
EMMA!
Emma: I've got you now you trollop!
ALL: BATTLE CHARGE!
Storm: wait...why don't I have a character caption?
SCO...
Storm: No don't pull a scene change I asked a question! Karma gets one, DAZZLER gets one why don't I get one?
SCO...
Storm: it pisses me off is all.
SCOTT!
Emma: Stop thinking about your DEAD WIFE and get on with it!
Scott: I AM ANGRY! RAR!
Emma: Then why do you just have a vacant expression on your face?
Scot: Because Land drew me! RAR!

While I am here, I must get something off my chest - Emma beat Regan up in the previous issue. How come she looks perfectly fine here (until the glass attack)? Secondly, the last page - the first panel that features Emma, Karma and Dazzler is really, really pissing me off for some reason. The image of Emma totally makes me want to throw up.

I'm guessing Reagan is using her illusion powers to cover up any bruises or scars. She's always seemed very shallow to me so I wouldn't be surprised if she wanted to keep herself looking perfect. (Or, for a real world explanation: Land couldn't find any scarred porn stars to trace in time for this issue)
And I agree with you about that panel darling. I never thought three sexy women charging into battle in spandex would make me want to STOP reading but Land made the impossible possible with that particular scene.

"I don't care how hurt you are. I need your absolute focus."
Maddie breaks the fourth wall to plead with the bored reader, with Land come-to-bed-eyes.
Don't try that now, Fraction, you lost my focus 4 issues ago.
Did Karma get hair extensions?
I am surprised you focused on this; i think Karma's best new feature is her STROKEFACE.

Genius :) Maddie's pleading straight to the reader. A moment worthy of Grant Morrison...if he suffered major head trauma perhaps.
LOL I love the Sailor Moon poses. Emma is Sailor Moon, Dazzler is Venus, and Karma is Neptune.
I'm going to have to work this into my full scale abridged version when I get the issue.

Planes are hard to draw convincingly out of memory. I give passes on planes, cars, and buildings. It's the people that drives me crazy.
yeah, but it doesn't take much effort to erase the shadow from the second cockpit.
that's what driving me crazy.

Nemesis. I have no problem with the BlackBird tracing. I can forgive that. How are you enjoying this arc so far? I think it's falling flat... the art and lack of character depth is really killing it for me. Story logic has just been totally erradicated.

This is what bothers me about people trying to nail Greg Land or any other artists for legimately using photo reference.
Clearly, you don't draw or know how to draw a scene with mood convincingly. You have use shading to give some depth to the plane and if you're not sure where it supposed to "land" properly, use photo reference. I don't think people will care if you have to use photos for airplanes, cars, and buildings.
But we do care when he uses the same faces for different characters or the exact same pose over and over again.
You're really reaching with the plane.

With all seriousness, do you think his style fits Uncanny? I tend to think not. I'm curious to get your take on such matters.

I been hating what's been passed off as a story since 500
I have no problem with tracing the plane, but I'm a stickler for details.
the X-blackbird has one cockpit, Land traced the shadows of both cockpits from the real one, and It doesn't take much effort not to do that. and the left engine seems to be on fire since the exhaust is bigger the the engine

At least it looks like there is action, but who is in betsys body? Betsy? And if kwannon is in the other body then why is she in bondage? kwannon was the bad one not betsy.
