A new "Radioactive Man" story, "The Riddle Of Radioactive Rabbit!", a 12-pager which I wrote, penciled and inked is now on sale. It's in Bongo's just-published THE SIMPSONS SUMMER SHINDIG No 3. I'm prettty pleased with this take on the Mort Weisinger/Otto Binder/Wayne Boring "Superman" stories of the late 1950s crossed with "Captain Carrot" and my love of corporate cartoon spokescharacters. It also features "bookends" with Bart, Milhouse and the Comic Book Guy at The Android's Dungeon, some pointed commentary on "CGC" sealed funnybook fad and a cameo by the dashing young Sergio Aragonés, too.

I really knocked myself out on this one, so I hope you'll all dig it, especially those of you who, like myself, love those old Silver Age Mort Weisinger-edited SUPERMAN titles!

Aloha,

Scott!

Cool, I'll keep an eye out!

Have you ever had any dealings with Matt Groening himself? Has he ever worked on the Bongo comics? I love Life in Hell, and I'd like to see his Simpsons stuff.

Matt Groening and I have been friends long before THE SIMPSONS existed. We met back when I was working on the first run of CAPTAIN CARROT AND HIS AMAZING ZOO CREW! and he was writing music reviews for an LA giveaway newspaper. Although he's incredibly busy with all things SIMPSONS, Matt still seems like the same smart, down-to-earth, easy-going guy he always was.

He certainly makes input into Bongo's line of SIMPSONS and FUTURAMA funnybooks, but to my knowledge, Matt's never written or drawn any stories for 'em, other than writing the occasional text piece. I recall one piece written by him that imparted some great advice to young aspiring cartoonists.

Aloha,

Scott!

P.S.: One of my favorite quotes is Matt's:

"Success is having enough money to buy all the records and comic books that you want."

Hey Scott, I've been meaning to ask you... what's up with Bongo Comics? Don't they have a website or anything. I periodically search the web for one but haven't ever found any "official" sites, just fan run ones. It would be nice, even if they only used it for previews of upcoming issues.

Yeah, I've had the same question. I was intrigued by one of the FCBD Free-for-Alls, but when I couldn't find them on the web my interest petered out.

Scott, your story already made me laugh when I saw it featured Poochy! Did you lose a bet?

If you ever see Matt Groening, tell him it would be great to see a 'Complete Life in Hell' project! I've written to Pantheon saying I would buy it!

Greetings Scott! Great Radioactive Man story, and unlike recent stories, it was more in line with the original RM series. As far as your comment that Matt Groening had written a piece "that imparted some great advice to young aspiring cartoonists." you're referencing "Bongo Beat: Advice to Young Cartoonists" and "Bongo Beat: Son of Advice to Young Cartoonists" that appeared in Simpsons Comics #18 and #19 and was reprinted in Simpsons Comics Royale (see http://www.snpp.com/guides/comics_sc01.html). We've been building various indexes into the RM stories and plan to add the references to issues #62 and #1173 and more! (see http://www.snpp.com/guides/comics_rm_index.html) Thanks!
