I finally got round to finishing Kingdom Come and, despite certain prejudices regarding having to be over-rated to some degree, it was abslutely fantastic. Whenever I read his stuff, I always thought it was 'straight-down-the-line' superheroics with no real twist. But that's why I loved the book so much, why I loved his segmetns in 52 so much and why I want to read mroe of his stuff. (Anyone who caught the Batman in Barcelona' one-shot would agree he should doo more new DC stuff, and the artitst... wow.).

I've read in places thatt here's been a rift between the writer and DC or, more specifically, Dan Didio? Is there any truth behind this? I read he's recently taken hte position of EIC of Boom Studios (I think it was Boom?), so it makes sense he'd focus on that but is it true that there's little chance of much more new DC releases?

I love Kingdom come.

Maybe you should track down his Flash run and his work on 52 and brave and the bold.

Ain't It Cool News did a huge interview with Mark Waid about a month back - http://www.aintitcool.com/node/40896 - which was the source of these rift rumors, most notably in his comments about 52 and his more recent (and not so good) run on FLASH.

Being EIC of Boom Studios has certainly cut back his work with any other company, but he just wrote the Batman Barcelona one-shot and was even part of a launch party for it with Jim Lee and the artists on the book. So I think there's still a working arrangement between the 2 parties...

you should read Superman: Birthright! out of the many Superman origin stories, this was probably my favorite

If you want to read more Waid off the standard superhero path, check out Empire with Barry Kitson. It's a fantastic mini that shows a Doctor Doom-type winning world domination and all the intrigue and backstabbing that comes with it. It's really off-type for Waid, dark, a little bleak, and completely excellent.

The idea is that the work he does for other companies brings more attention and publicity to Boom. And he is technically one of the Spider-Man writers.

I'd like to see Waid branch out and write for other kinds of media much like Gaiman. I certainly think he is talented enough.
