For those Americans not in the know, Canada's Governor-General is a former journalist named Michaelle Jean. Well it seems that she's even more hardcore than Palin. Eat your heart out Sarah, before Michelle does it for you. (http://gawker.com/5269798/meet-michaelle-jean-the-sarah-palin-of-canada)
Okay, it was really just our Governor-General showing some support for seal hunters. And eating raw seal meat is done all the time (Anthony Bourdain did it on his show, for example) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8d8EymQPiqk). It is funny how many people have been making a comparison with Palin, though.

Palin doesn't eat Seal Meat. She dines only on the hearts of people, sacrificed to her Dark Master Satan.

There are few things that make me ashamed of the country of my birth. The seal hunt is one of those things.

It would have been so much better if the heart was still beating and afterward there was a sword fight...

What, between her and a seal? I'd imagine it would be pretty one-sided, unless it was one of those circus seals and had been trained to use a sword.

What if it was a Navy Seal...

Why? Even there wasn't a hunt a seal cull would be necessary, since we silly humans damaged their predator population. All recorded hunts have fallen well below the allowed quota set by the government and I haven't seen any serious evidence to suggest it's done inhumanely (especially since its opponents seem unable to muster facts or sources). Additionally it provides economic benefits to the communities that practice it including Canada's Inuit population.

It depends on the species.
Over by Alaska, the sea lion population has crashed because orca have been snacking on them (apparently because they don't have enough whales to eat) and now the sea otter population is suffering similar problems. But I'm not sure how readily orca are able to switch to other seals as prey.
I honestly don't know. I haven't paid much attention to the seal hunt. I'm a lot more concerned about the continued whale hunts, particularly by Japan, Iceland and Norway.
