Is this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uW4E7VM-zdI) animal abuse? I think it's hilarious, but I didn't realize how many people were offended when it was posted on YouTube. I'm interested to see what other people think about it.

For those who cannot access youtube:
it's a clip of friginator having sex with a dolphin.
I think it's ok because you are clearly wearing protection.

The cat does not seem to like it..

You know, as a vegan and a pretty staunch animal rights activist, I was expecting to see something that really upset me. I never did. So they moved a cat around to make it look like it was playing a keyboard? For like 30 seconds? If I had a pet dog and hugged it gently but firmly enough that it couldn't pull away, would it be abuse? I don't really see much difference, to be honest.
Now, if we want to talk about Latin American stereotypes, I think we might have a case. Not a very good one, but I think that it's a much stronger case than calling it animal abuse.
In fairness, though, the video isn't all that funny

Animal abuse? No.
However, the cat is clearly unhappy with the situation, and I see no reason to put an animal in a situation where he is so clearly unhappy just for a humans personal amusement.
I'd compare it to something like a giant tying strings to a human and making him dance like a marionette. It's unnecessary and crude.

I'd compare it to somebody going to work every day though he does not enjoy his job.
Cat's getting free food and lodging, right? Might as well work for it.

It's not animal abuse, but why would you do that to your cat to make such a crappy video?

I was about to agree with that other person until I read that, and you know what? Cats are such ungrateful shits anyway, you have to get your fun out of them however you can.

The cat doesn't appear to be in pain and was able to squirm free on its own (meaning it wasn't restrained tightly or anything), which is good. But I think that if you have a pet, you shouldn't make it unhappy any more than you have to.

My cat isn't happy unless it is sleeping. Any act that distracts her from sleep makes her unhappy. So realistically, she's unhappy all the time. I doubt she'd be any more or less unhappy if I made her play the piano. Its all one concentrated state of unhappiness with no variation to the degree.
Moody little creature....

It's not abuse, but the cat isn't inpressed. I hope it clawed him, that'll learn him for making such a sucky video and irritating a cat.

No, but it's being unkind to animals.
Pets aren't toys and owning them doesn't mean that you get to make them "work for their living" or anything. Somebody that owns a pet should understand what they're getting into beforehand. You'll get a companion that is occasionally affectionate and that is all that you should expect out of them (unless it's a working animal, like a seeing-eye dog, but those aren't quite pets).

The first cat is kinda pissed off, but I wouldn't call it abuse. It's kinda the equivalent of someone grabbing your hand and going: "Stop hitting yourself, stop hitting yourself!" I'm surprised it didn't bite the person responsible, though. Mine totally would have.
Oddly enough, the other cat seems to think it's fun. oO
Also, posting videos on youtube with cats doing anything except being extremely cute will make people yell about animal abuse. I suspect most people who do so aren't very experienced with cats themselves.

I'm disappointed...
I was hoping to see Michelle Jean and Sarah Palin clubbing baby seals and biting into their soft, furry hides.

I wouldn't say so. The cats look like they're enjoying it, and as long as you keep it away from their eyes I don't see any problem with laser pointers.

No. That's some cats being, well, cats. They chase stuff. It's what they do.

What Ghost said.
Now they'll never actually catch the thing, of course, so maybe one could argue that it's kind of like when somebody shows a dog a ball, makes a throwing motion while holding onto it, and then laughs at the confused dog looking around for where the ball went. But the cat doesn't seem angry or unhappy or anything.

No cats were harmed in the making of this film...but they were terribly embarrassed:
