So I started reading this last night and read the first 3 issues. Wow. Just wow, this is so well written and great art too. I honestly have to say I don't see comics like this anymore. Solid story telling with thus far a great cast of characters that really stand out and no decompression! Virgil is such a great, diverse character. A really human teenager and once again, very well written. I also love the different set of friends he surrounds himself with. Reminds me how in high school, there's a group of friends you have, not necessarily just one person you're with every day like they do with a lot of shows, books, etc.

But yeah, can't wait to finish reading the book. Sadly, when my baby sis saw me reading, she got excited but her excitement sorta shut down when I told her she couldn't read it. Some pretty powerful subject matters, dialogue, moments. My sis is a bright girl, I think I could perhaps show her the book as having to watch kids her age last summer, they're not as oblivious to these things than adults like to think.

But yes! Anywho, great McDuffie writing! Highly recommended. Anyone else pick this up?

I agree. I used to love the show, and was totally unprepared for some of the stuff the actual comic dealt with. I'm picking it up later this week, because I never read the Rebirth of Cool mini.

What are the powerful subject matters?

Gangs, drugs, violence, bullies, loss, sex, family, bigotry/prejudice, friendship, jobs/work, homosexuality, etc.

And not in the "after-school special" manner, either.

I ordered this at a local store so I should get it this Wednesday. I'm glad the Milestone characters are getting more attention. I only hope that Static doesn't get watered down during his time with the Teen Titans.
