I didn't see a thread for this although I think this was a pretty good issue.

The book opens with Atom Smasher and Mr. Bones reminiscing about Infinity Inc then he gets a call on his cell phone from Stargirl telling him something is going down at the Hq

Apparently Obsidian has blocked the house off with his shadow powers and wont let most of the team in and Hourman is freaking out cause he saw something happen to his Woman in the near future and Obsidian wont let him in.

Then the outside members find out that Stargirl has been possed by a ghost and then they grab an electric wire from a nearby pole and Powergirl shocks Stargirl back to her old self and the ghost burns away Obsidians shadow barrier so now these ghost(s) are angry and wont go to there spirit world cause they have some lingering issues so the ghosts take them back to world war 2 and apparently the ghost(s) want them to suffer in a nuke bath like he did.

the the Spirit shows up in the present day with the rest of the team and makes soem vague proclimations.

Not a bad issue all in all and i hope this arc is fairly short cause i keep waiting for the Willingham stuff to come even tho i know i will probably hate it.

Going into this issue, I figured it would feel like a fill in arc.

And it did, whether or not it was due to my own biased mindset I'm not sure. It wasnt terrible or anything, and the art looked MUCH better than his previous stuff from a couple months ago, I'm just looking toward the future too much.

I did love the last page, being a Spectre fan.

This certainly didn't feel like a fill in to me.

I'm not a huge fan of Ordway's art but it's serviceable.

Just read Geoff Johns' entire run yesterday and it was so freaking good. Is anyone kind of depressed that he left the title?

His run was awesome, but it's not like it's hard to find Johns books already. Ordways story felt not at all like filler. It continued several plots from the previous writer (Atom Smasher/ Bones, Atom Smasher/Stargirl, Atom Smasher/Hourman, Hourman/Liberty Belle and Alan Scott/Obsidan are all duos whose interactions felt very in line with previous stories), it featured a forgotten old villain (as Jones used to do), plus nicely inserted Ordway touches (Infinity Inc and Bibbo).

It was an alright issue, I wasnt really expecting much. It was very old school. Fill-in issues are grand, but I'm glad Ordway isn't the permenant writer. His art was better than the last few issues he did aswell, fortunatley.

To be honest i kinda felt like he was losing interest towards the end.

I totally agree. I loved the beginning of the series reboot but once the Gog/Magog event started I felt like it was losing it's momentum.

On the other hand, I'm loving Green Lantern and Blackest Night, so if he had to put his time somewhere, I'm glad that's where it went.

As much as I loved John's run(s), I'm eagerly looking forward to Willingham and Sturges on this book.

It was nice to see some more Ordway art, although it's not his best, I'll admit. I grew up read All-Star Squadron, and his art there was phenomenal. His Superman, both there and later in Adventures Of Superman, is one of the definitive versions for me.

The dialogue made me cringe at times. Plus, I hated the way they wrote Stargirl's dialogue.

"I felt like I was going to go mad if I stayed under his control!" C'mon. She's like 16!

I am excited for Willingham and Sturges!

After reading some 52 (still not done yet) I decided to pick this up and hey, I thought it was pretty good. I barely know who is who, but it's still cool. One question though, what was Mr. Bones talking about when it showed Atom Smasher, Cyclone, and Stargirl flying off from his perspective? Was that Mr. Bones? It looked like he was wearing a mask and not his skullface from the panel before.

One question though, what was Mr. Bones talking about when it showed Adam Smasher, Cyclone, and Stargirl flying off from his perspective? Was that Mr. Bones? It looked like he was wearing a mask and not his skullface from the panel before. It was most likely him since he is wearing the exact same clothes... as for the mask well maybe he doesn't like to be seen in public that way but in a dark bar it was ok maybe?

I've only read a couple of Infinity Inc issues and i'm not real knowledgeable about his character.

If it's the panel I'm thinking of (at work; nowhere near my comics) I thought it was a third party that was spying on Atom Smasher, or perhaps the JSA in general.

Ordway's artwork definitely looked better this issue, and his writing was okay. I appreciated the Infinity references and also the appearance of the Spectre at the end. Kung's costume reminded me of Captain America of all things... trade purple for blue and make his boots red and it would be close. Still, I am anxiously awaiting Willingham and Sturges on this book... hopefully they will be good, but if not, I don't mind dropping another title at today's prices.

I was expecting to hate this obvious filler, but it was actually kinda nice. The art was WAY better than Ordway's Black Adam arc (why would you pick the filler to not half-ass it?), with no horrifying close-ups of Stargirl making a mutant face or anything. Some of the dialogue fit pretty well (Hourman being a giant tool to Al & Obsidian), and Stargirl was actually talking like a teenager again ("Oh. My. Gosh!", "Duh. We're underage!"), which writers sometimes forget to make her do. Nice to see SOMEONE finally call Albert out on him & Courtney being in love, since 110-odd issues of subtext were leading that way. Of course it's Power Girl who finally notes it, her forthrightness mixing with the fact that Courtney always used her as a shoulder to cry on regarding Al's betrayal of the team, how could she NOT know?

I am liking the old Japanese foes concept, though Spectre has an insane track record for boring JSA stories with lots of meaningless philosophy (the Spirit King arc with Hal Jordan-Spec, etc.).

It was actually decent. not very decompressed at all.

How's the pacing and decompression in this?

Tolerable. It's only a two-part story, so there isn't room for much decompression. On the other hand, it seemed like more than half the issue was spent on a scene that was only moderately interesting, the standoff with Obsidian. Still, the payoff near the end of the issue was definitely interesting, and I expect that next issue will have plenty going on. This won't be like that Gentlemen Ghost story where things happened but the story seemed stuck for several issues.

Just got this in the mail today and just finished reading it. I really enjoyed it. I've been re-reading All-Star Squadron from the beginning the last few days (just finished the 5-part cross over with JLofA, Crisis on Earth Prime), so I had to laugh to myself when I saw Kung since I just read about him against the All-Stars a couple of days ago. And the Ordway/Infinity Inc. splash nearly brought tears to my eyes. *sigh* My childhood. Where did it go?

I still wish they would stop using Wiacek as Ordaway's primary inker.
Wiacek has to take some of the blame for Ordway's lapses.
There are pleanty of good talended young inkers out there, Ruy Jose is one that comes to mind; that would make Orway shine.
It's like "alright lets team up the bronze age guys again".

Could be, kind of like Andru and Esposito, they were good friends but Esposito was not the best inker for Andru.

I thought it was "ok"m but I tell you, I am getting very tired of every issue power girl is in having her complain about someone staring at her bust, when she has a hole the size of china in her top.

she has big boobs, I get it.... move on.
