I noticed the thread about DC office politics and McDuffie leaving the JLA but I was more interested in the actual comic so I thought I would post and see what everyone thought of this week's issue.
I don't know a lot about the Milestone characters but Hardware seemed interesting to me. I'd rather see these characters re-introduced into the DCU with their own miniseries though so the reader could get to know them better.
Anansi returned and Paladin was thrown into the mix by him as well. I thought it was neat seeing him as well. And Zatanna's reaction to a potential reappearance by Bruce was neat as well. I guess she really did have a thing for him.
I also found myself interested in Dr. Light for the first time in a while. But if McDuffie is upset about not having the main guns in this title then he defiitely has a right to complain. Superman and Black Canary are both on the cover but don't appear in the issue. He did do a solid job though of making John Stewart look like a competent leader of other superheroes.
Interesting story but it felt more like an ancillary JLA title rather than the flagship as all of the big guns were missing.
What did everyone else think?

I don't know man i thought the last issue was better this one had way too much exposition, where i felt like nothing really happened (even tho stuff did happen)
I like Dr.Light and Firestorm i hope they stick around for a while.
Honestly i don't understand why they changed Firestorm because besides his skin color he seem's like the exact same person to me which is neat cause i always liked his personality but it seems a bit pointless to me also.
Hardware does seem interesting and i think there is going to be a Milestone mini coming out by Mr. Mcduffie later this year.
Unless Didio decides to sabotage him some more.

I agree with you. It was a pretty good issue, but after seeing Superman on the cover I was dissapointed that Superman and Black Canary were not featured in the book at all. The team does a nice enough job, but it just doesn't seem like the JLA right now. Its not even the lack of the big guns, they just don't have it together at the moment.

You know, if we can't have Batman in the JLA, and yes, I know he'll be showing up before the end of the year, I vote for Paladin to be on this team.

I have to admit, I was intrigued by Paladin. It must be weird to KNOW you are just a figment of some Trickster God. I'd love to see him get more air time.
As for the issue itself, I liked it. I've been enjoying this arc, and enjoyed being introduced to the Milestone characters (Unless you count cartoons, I missed them the first time) while seeing some of the C listers cope with the shake up to the team. I've never been a fan of Dr. Light , but she's being fleshed out well

There's a bit of meta in Paladin's appearance: if Anasi is supposed to represent McDuffie in some sense (as he's implied before), then this seems to be his way of saying "Even if I can't use Batman, I'll find some way to use Batman, because he's important to the JLA."
I could be wrong about this.

I really liked the issue. After reading the last two issues, I'm pretty annoyed McDuffie's leaving.
I chuckled at Hardware calling Vixen "Future Mrs. Hardware."

I thought that was a good line as well.
I also agree with those of you voicing Paladin's temporary inclusion on the team. I don't want to see him for a long period but on a temporary basis I think the concept is kinda neat.
I also really hope we get to see McDuffie write a Milestone mini in the near future and I hope it can introduce fans like me to the characters as I'm not real familiar with them. I did find a copy of Icon #1 in my LCS's cheap boxes.

This was exactly the impression I got from Paladin's inclusion in the storyline and I loved it to death because if it. Easily my favorite McDuffie issue purely because of that, and because it finally began to tie everything together between Anansi, Dharma and all these little hints we've had throughout his run... so sorry to know it's never going to get to be what it should have been. :frown:
