I'll second that.

I think that Spain is one cartoonist who never got the recognition his work deserves.

Unfortunately, that photo was taken before S. Clay Wilson was beaten within an inch of his life. I spoke with a mutual friend yesterday, and he informed me that Wilson is still hospitalized. The good news is that he's drawing again, and that his doctors are in discussion as to when they can release him to finally go home.

Aloha,

Scott!

P.S.: I haven't seen anything new from the very talented Paul Mavrides in a long time, but the fact that he's in this shot is kinda appropriate, inasmuch as I'd say that Gilbert Shelton would be the fourth head on Mt. Rushmore, but since Paul worked with Gilbert on so many FREAK BROTHERS strips, it's good to se Gilbert sorta/kinda represented here! -- SS!

As long as S. Clay Wilson keeps wearing those socks he'll have lots of life left in him.

What else would you expect from the creator of the Checkered Demon?

Actually the photo is more recent than that - Wilson and his partner (who took the pictures) left the hospital for the day and met up with the others at Starbucks. The story is at the link in the first post.

Good pix!

Unfortunately, I think the real Mt. Rushmore of comics might be more of 'strip' artists than these four.

I hope the same is true of my good self. Available in a five-pack from Next, for those of you with enough taste to join us.

Heh. The movie theatre in the 3rd photo is on West Portal. I saw Star Trek there with my family just a couple weeks ago, must have been around the time this picture was taken. Cool.

A block from that photo is my first job ever working at a children's tutoring center.
