I just saw this about X-Men 4..pretty cool. Let's make sure we sign the petition cause we all want to see a furthered storyline. We Want 'X-Men 4' Petition: Sign Now (http://worldofsuperheroes.com/movies/33-x-men/154-we-want-x-men-4-petition-sign-now)

I would, except Xmen 3... what's the phrase... "sucked a big one".
Prepare to get thrashed, 'cause no one wants an Xmen 4...

I'm with you. After seeing X3 and wolverine, I'd rather they quit while they're already behind so they don't get any further behind. Of course, if people continue to go see the movies, then they'll continue to make them.

Yeah, because online petitions have ever done anything.

1. I'd only want an X-Men 4 if it's done by Marvel, like Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk (2008). In which case I'd rather have them start afresh (though Bryan Singer did a pretty good job).
2. This thread is for the TV/Film forum.

Wouldn't you much rather have a new X-Men 1 than an X-Men 4?

Forget the online petition, and go straight for the hunger strike.
Anyway, we just got X-Men 4, it's in theatres now.
What I'd like to see is New X Men, with Logan, Emma, Havoc, Lorna, Nightcrawler and Professor Cassandra Xavier.

The only time I support comic book movies is when they're straight to DVD, and animated. Frankly, comic books just don't translate well into live action.

When I was at the theater this past weekend I noticed Wolverine labeled as "X-Men 4". I cannot imagine this is the only theater doing this. It probably precludes them from calling one "4".
Plus, isn't the Magneto movie the next "X-Men" movie?

I honestly don't see how you can really classify Wolverine as X-Men IV. It takes place BEFORE the first X-Men movie. That's like calling Phantom Menace Star Wars IV, it may be the 4th movie made in the franchise, (not counting spinoffs) but chronologically it's more like X-Men 0.1. If anything I'd call Wolverine the first in a separate movie franchise, since the full title isn't X-Men: Wolverine, it's X-Men ORIGINS: Wolverine. So any movies that follow this one with the name X-Men Origins, will be part of this franchise, and any movies that just say X-Men will be part of the original.

isn't Wolverine kindasorta a prequel?...

Precisely, it's not X-Men 4, neither will any other X-Men Origins movie be X-Men 4. Origins, and the X-Men trilogy are both part of the X-Men franchise as a whole, but as far as movie franchises, they're two separate franchises. Theaters labeling Wolverine as X-Men 4 is erroneous, just like if a theater labeled the 2008 Hulk movie as Hulk 2. Yes, the 2003 Hulk, and the 2008 Hulk are both Hulk movies, but it's not a sequel to Hulk, so it's not Hulk 2.

I loved the idea it's so Star Trek. Someone travels from the future and change history.
Now seriously it is a great idea. X-Men needs a reboot and you can call it X-Men 1 or 4 it doesn't matter. Less Logan, No Jean, No Magnus and they could face Apocalypse, Sentinels, Shiar Empire, Mr. Sinister ...
Great idea putting Whedon in charge.

Petitions are useless. if you want to effect change, human sacrifice to the Gods is the way to go.

I find that directing the sacrifices to the Pagan gods of Plunder and Profit works exceptionally well.

You comic book fans can argue all you want but if AMC and the other major theater chains label it as X-Men 4, what do you think the general public will think?
Rurik
05-29-2009, 10:51 AM
This isn't even something that involves being a comic book fan, this is purely common sense. If a story takes place prior to the first, it's not a sequel, it's a prequel. The move chains can label it whatever they want, they're still wrong. The people who made the movie are the ones who decide what the proper label is, and they gave it the label X-Men Origins: Wolverine, not X-Men 4: Wolverine.

I was at the theater, their theater card said X-Men 4. This is real, this isn't a hypothetical.

God I hope this movie never sees the light of day. X-3 was terrible to put it lightly and Wolverine was even worse...which up till then I didn't think was possible.
Hell these movies are Van Helsing bad.

The theater card is completely irrelevant. The theater card at my local theater called Spiderman 3, Spiderman, doesn't mean it was the first movie in the trilogy. The poster for the movie does not call it X-Men 4: Wolverine, the title that appears on screen does not call it X-Men 4: Wolverine, the video games do not call it X-Men 4: Wolverine, the official website does not call it X-Men 4: Wolverine, the movie is NOT X-Men 4, and any theater that labels it X-Men 4 is wrong.

But my point is how it colors the perception of the movie-goers seeing other things.

Just like the marketing made it clear that this is X-Men Origins Wolverine rather than just going with Wolverine.
I'd personally like to see a continuation from the first three films that carry us into the future, but it doesn't seem likely at the moment. I always thought a Cyclops and Phoenix spinoff would be cool, and divest them of the need to the use the same actors. They survived, they're in the future raising Cable with different bodies.

I dont mind having Wolverine in X4, but dear god enough Magneto already, it's like the Superman franchise, you cant make a Superman movie without Lex Luthor?
Apocalypse, Mr Sinister, The Hellfire Club, The Acolytes, The Shi'Ar Empire, anyone but Magneto.

X-Men: First Class done like the X-Men: First Class comic books.
And yes, for God's sake, NO MORE MAGNETO! Pick a different early villain. Pick Mimic -- it's always fun when a villain gets to steal the heroes' powers.

Mimic just got fused with Deadpool for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Just go with the dadgum Sentinels and Bolivar Trask already.

Although First Generation Trask and the Sentinels would be cool.

If there is an X-Men 4, make it about the actual X-Men, instead of having Wolverine casually walk all over everything. Again.

Indeed a reboot is in order and let marvel do it...

I don't necessarily want a reboot right now because I love the direction of the franchise but when a reboot is in order definitely let Marvel Studios handle it. I'd be happy if they handled every superhero project and didn't let Fox get control of anymore of their characters. While I have enjoyed the four X-Men movies we've gotten, without Fox in control they could've been that much better.
And with that being said, I don't really think we need an X-Men 4 seeing as they're doing the origin movies and by the time those are done pretty much everyone will have fully moved on. Not to mention that I don't even want an X-Men 4 unless they plan on introducing Apocalypse.

I would love to see an X-Men movie. Call it X-Men 4, call it X-Men: Year One, call it whatever.
I love the characters. In the hands of someone who really wants to make a good movie, I think X-Men could be great.

I think Singer did do a great job with the first two, but a lot of people I've talked to on forums are so against the first movie because the effects are bad. The story for both were top notch, and while the third movie fell off, I enjoyed it as much as the other two.
