Man the Supernatural Romance genre just continues to grow and grow.
From the link (http://www.forward.com/articles/106349/):
Following the international success of last year’s vampire drama “Twilight,” Israeli cable provider HOT is ready to broadcast its own bloodsucker-themed series. The show, “Split,” follows a 15-year-old girl whose identity — as half-vampire, half-human — is revealed to her by a mysterious male classmate, a newcomer who turns out to be roughly 300 years her senior. The series, which features elaborate makeup and special effects, will debut on May 28 and is produced by the same team behind several of Israel’s most popular prime-time soap operas.
As with “Twilight,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and virtually every other vampire-themed drama, “Split” appears to have a subtext only partly masked by all the pale skin and fangs. After the show’s heroine learns her true identity, she is “drawn into an ancient conflict” between humans and vampires, and eventually discovers she was “born… to put an end to the war,” as a HOT press release put it.
Whatever ancient conflicts the show addresses, it also devotes attention to the more universal elements of adolescence — the same sorts of worries about romance and social status depicted in “Twilight” and “Buffy.” Portraying the conflicted heroine is actress Amit Farkash, who last year played the female lead in a Hebrew-language stage version of “High School Musical.”

Hey:tongue:
Perfectly fine series, not the best to receive all this attention but I've read much worse.
Anyway the show looks mildly promising, ever so slightly generic, and I can't say the goth looking vampires have ever been my thing.

Nothing against the series, just that I prefer my vampire series whare vampires are supposed to be monsters. Monsters that dont glitter in the sunlight:tongue:
The show reminds me of Harry Potter directed by Tim Burton to be honest

You're probably going to have to wait awhile for that to happen since it's a series of books like Harry Potter, and Im sure they'll all be adapted into movies as well.

You know it is kinda funny that thare hardly ever has been any Harry Potter like shows back when Harry Potter was about as popular as Twilight. As far as I know.
Yet the minute Twilight came out in theaters you have about one or two tv shows whare the concept is inspired of the book series

Vampires are relatively inexpensive and have a history of making out with humans on TV

Does this mean they're making Jewish vampires? That's at least a look at.

Books 2+ do back up the Cullens being an aberration, but disliking that kind of series is perfectly reasonable.

Charlie Huston did that in a book, orthodox clan living in Brooklyn.

I seem to remember a Roman Polanski film with something along the lines of a Jewish vampire shrugging off someone holding a cross up at him.

Huston's vamps would shrug regardless. Huston's vampires aren't very magical. Or magical at all. Virus that bestows metahuman abilities, along with a thirst for blood an super allergy to sunlight. But no garlic, religious icons, don't even need to stake the heart, just kill them enough that they can't heal from it.
So these vamps were actually super religious. Had built up their own little Jew vamp cult. Didn't want to kill the protagonist at one point because it was Shabbat.

One would think the last place vampires would want to live is freakin' Israel. Setting aside the Holy stuff, it's a freakin' desert.
The only thing I hope to see from this series (on a youtube clip, I guess) is some vamp hunter using Ninja Stars of David. Because that would be awesome and hilarious.

Yep. A vampire is mostly just asking themselves to get dusted to be living in the holyland in the first place.

I heard the same on the SFX forums. Sometimes British tv channels pick up programming from Israel, so there might even be an airing here.

At least it worked for Kitty Pryde when she was attacked by Dracula.

Actually, technically speaking there's no religious significance to a Star of David. It's a symbol of the Davidic Monarchy.

Plus, they're easier to throw!
Now as I recall, a cross didn't work for Kitty, but would for a Christian. So could an atheist use anything to ward off vampires?

It also worked in Being Human. A Jewish werewolf is protected from a master vampire by his Magen David, even though his vampire friend was able to handle it - the explanation being that it was linked to his personal feelings for them, and it only hurt vampires he wanted to hurt.

Y'know, vampires always seem to get TV shows made about them, but no one ever makes a TV show about Frankenstein's monster who is clearly the superior monster.

Isn't this similar to "I am Legend"? only those vampires/zombies that had strong religious beliefs before becoming vampires were affected by the cross.

How many of these things do they have to make?
Honestly, Buffy got it so damn right in the first place, I really don't see the point of bothering with an endless supply of inferior remakes. And I'm definitely including Twilight in this.

As many as it takes for them to bleed every possible nickel of profit from fans of the stuff.
