I'm referring to the animated version. Also including seasons 1 and 2 of Justice League...

Darkseid did more damage than any two other villains combined, so I'm going ot give it to him.

Darkseid gets my vote - a constant thorn in JL and JLU

Darkseid. A much bigger threat than the comic version ever was. However Lex Luthor deserves some honorable mention.

Are you sure you mean ever. I agree he's a bigger threat than current Darkseid, but not pre-crises Darkseid.

I stand corrected. A much bigger threat than Post Crisis Darkseid ever was.

Joyfully agreed about that. Darkseid and Apocalypse stand as two villains whose cartoon versions were curiously better than the originals.

But with that said, I'd actually argue for Lex Luthor. He was just a more consistent presence, and though Darkseid did things on a larger scale, Luthor was just more persistent. I think of it like Batman compared to Joker. Mr. Freeze and Clayface are more powerful, but Joker is Batman's top enemy.

Luthor was the cause of much more misery for the JLU. He was the big bad of the first season, and until Darkseid showed up, he was the big bad of the majority of season two. Add in some appearances in the original JL series, he was their nemesis. He organized the government to go against the League, he ran for President just to piss off Superman, took over the Legion of Doom and used it against the League as well. He was the guy every hero scowled at hearing the name of, Darkseid was bad ass in the series, but he appeared like twice. Luthor was the constant threat, one human being able to cause so much HATE from the most powerful beings on the planet who stand for truth and justice, says a lot. To top it all off, Luthor is the guy who BEAT Darkseid!

That and Luthor was the REASON behind the creation of the Justice Lords. That is why I say Luthor deserved honorable mention

Just to throw my 2 cents in I also had to go with Lex. What kinda guy blows up a town just to frame the Justice League?

The same guy that builds a small city to fuck with superman.

Funny thing about Apocalypse...he was consistently better in both the original and Evolution...I'm sure Wolverine and the X-Men will do him good. He's really not that hard the comics just played him out.

I can honestly say both the cartoon version and the Smallville version have been a improvement on the Lex Luthor character. More than his comic counterpart

If we expand it to the DCAU as a whole then I vote Darkseid but since it's just JL and JLU I lean Luthor. A lot of the stories that would have cemented Darkseid as the top JL/JLU nemesis were actually in STAS, for me.

Oddly enough the way things worked out is that Darkseid was Superman's arch-nemesis while Lex was the Leagues overall big bad.

Or hijacks The League's Watchtower space-cannon to fire near a town and cause the government to launch an assault against the league. Pure villainy.

Though Darkseid was more hardcore, Lex's constant presence and plotting is very admirable.

I wanted to say Luthor, but I realized that much of his actions (the presidential campagin, etc) was due to Brainiac's influence. Plus I just loved him teaming up with Supes and Batman to take on Darkseid in the finale.

So yeah, Darkseid really was the big bad. Rarely seen, but when he showed up, you knew things were going to be really tough for the League.

And that's the way it should be for bbeg's.
