Here's the first half of the "MASH-UP" storyline:

Superman and Batman, without knowing why, find themselves in an alternate universe where all that exists seems to be a "mash-up" of two things they were familiar with in their world. For instance, they find themselves in a city called Gothamopolis, being accosted by a hit-first, ask-questions-later team known as the Justice Titans, staffed by Night Lantern (Hal Grayson/Nightwing & Green Lantern), HawkBeast (Gar Katar/ Beast Boy and Hawkman), the Flash (Wally Allen/the Flash and the Flash), Star Canary (Starfire and Black Canary), Donna Wonder (Diana Troy, strangely enough/Wonder Woman and Troia) and Red Terranado (Tara Mark V/Terra and Red Tornado).

The World's Finest are at first blamed for a series of metahuman crimes, but quickly prove their innocence and learn a good deal more about the world in which they've materialized at the Justice Titans' home base.

They team up with this new team to fight Doomstroke (a combo of Deathstroke and Doomsday), who proves quite powerful and evidently slaughtered the Infinity Society (Justice Society and Infinity Inc.) and the Teen Legion (Teen Titans and the Legion of Superheroes) in a place called Metro City. After a brief sparring match, Doomstroke escapes, but not before violently incapacitating Red Terranado by severing off one of her arms with his spiky sword. Batman is pleased, however, having chipped off part of Doomstroke's exoskeleton, and decides to run some tests on it to learn about what happened to this new world to cause the mash-ups.

The tale closes with Doomstroke meeting his boss in a high-rise office, asking for reinforcements. Doomstroke makes note that Superman has hit him harder than anyone has ever hit him before. His boss decides to call in Brainycat, Penguello and possibly even Jimmy Two-Face. Of course, Doomstroke's cackling employer is revealed to be none other than... Lex Joker.

Francis Manapul did some great art on this issue and I was quite pleased with the overall story idea. The new characters were fun and the world they inhabit interests me greatly. The relationship between Batman and Superman was well-formulated, not coming off of as enemies-who-are-inexplicably-friends or chummy-silver-age-pals either.

Did anyone else pick this book up?

I got it and thought it was real nice. In fact, Supes/Bats has been really enjoyable for the last year and half. I know some want more continuity, but I'm not one who needs it if the stories are fun. These have been fun stories -- not going win any Eisners or anything, but just a lot of fun, which is why I read comics anyway.
