Talk about 'em here.
That was awesome ... I think it definitely seems to make up for the pace being drawn out over a few issues since it started. What in the HEY is going on here?

Very good issue. Hard to believe they killed Lucy. Loved the arrogant General Lane brought down to earth.
The fill-in artist was very good also.

I'm going to add this here, but could make it it's own thread . . .
Is Supergirl a title worth reading?
Can you describe it's style a little bit so I know how it reads?
I'm interested in giving it a shot b/c I can see it being kind of different, and I like different.
Thanks for the feedback.

Thread title: Supergirl #41 Spoilers
What part of that don't you understand?
I'm going to add this here, but could make it it's own thread . . .

Yes it's very well written. With fully developed characters and a fully involved plot.

.
How does it read? To be honest it's more reminiscent of a 'Marvel' book in that the stories are a bit more couched in reality. Yes there are comic-bookie scenarios (ie. people living off world), but still there is a huge element of realism.
The dialogue sounds real (without being cute), and people actually speak similar to the way in which they speak in real life. One of the touches I like is the way that Gates incorporates small talk into the dialogue.
For example a few issues back Lois goes to speak to a detective about a body being washed up. Before they get down to business. The detectvie opens their conversation with a bit of small talk about how her husband mus be an Old Spice man (he can smell it on her). Lois then responds that yes he is and she tried to get him to change etc. That's not a big thing. But it does make the book seem more real.
I also like the fact that the villains act out of their spite, malice and greed and their own ego. Instead of the usual DC motivations madness or meglomatnia. Which is actually the motivation of criminals in the real world.
I didn't like Gates run at first, but it has improved considerably. This actually is the only DC book I look forward to reading every month. I'd say it's worth your time and money. I really like the way that the book is couched in reality and I don't have to turn my brain off to enjoy it.
I like Sterling Gates as a writer. I hope we get a few more Supergirl story arcs out of him. Before Marvel invetibly pilfers him from DC. He would be great on an X book.

So anyone thinks that this is going to strain Lois relationship with her family, because I do.
I mean how will she feel when she learns that her own sister is killed by the cousin of her husband ? :frown:

Given that Sterling Gates likes his grisly deaths as seen in the Prometheus One Shot, I think the lack of a corpse points to Lucy not being dead.

Spoiler-spoilers.
Let's see ...
Henderson is not as dead as he looked, however he's pretty horribly injured.
But not injured enough that he can't shoot Reactron in the face! So Reactron is horribly injured, and in police custody (and ultimately probably Science Police custody).
Lucy seems pretty dead. Supergirl and Lane's people who are monitoring it are pretty sure she is.
Supergirl started winning by letting loose on her, noticing something happened to her when Reactron touched one of the "disks" on her suit, and so she started ripping off the disks. Well, it seems like the discs house technology that keeps the suit from going crazy, and it definitely seems like the suit might be some kind of mad science project or living entity or something, so powerful it has to be tamed with binding devices.
But that mystery remains. We get Lucy's identity and some motivation, and a LOT of Supergirl being very "WTF?" about it. But as for the death itself (which Supergirl is freaking out about) and how it affects Lane and Lois down the road ... it's a pretty comic-book death.
My theories on Lucy's powers are a little vague, because the suit when she loses control of it pains her incredibly, and stretches around and goes crazy. But underneath it she seems to be glowing in an almost Captain Atom like way.
So I'm not sure how much of it is some sort of freaky Super-Suit and how much is possible "tests" done to make her superhuman.
That's basically all that happens this issue though. Big brawl ... Supergirl kicks ass ... Reactron gets shot in the face by not so dead Henderson ... Lane isn't happy about Lucy getting killed.

Henderson wins the "Guts of Steel" trophy. "Oh, crap, I... was shot in the heart with heat vision... meh. " *Regains his footing, packs his pistol and joins the fight*
And that's one of the differences between Kal and Kara: I think Kal would probrably stop and look at the uniform with his X-Ray vision first. Kara just went ballistic straight-out punching and ripping the discs off.

I wish to apologize Accro. I thought you were criticizing me for my spoiler. I see now that you just wanted more info. My bad.

This is one of the things that has impressed me so much about the series right now: Kara is a super-powered teenager!
As much guidance as Clark can give her, as much experience she gets with the Titans, other DC heroes she still flies off the handle when emotions overtake her and she makes mistakes.
Her inner dialogue is thought provoking and sometimes downright heartbreaking (thinking back to when, distraught over the death of her father, she poses that in a way she wishes that it was her mother that was killed instead)
I started with issue 34 and I had the chance to pick up the Maelstrom mini and I have to say that Kara is becoming one of my favorite characters right now.
Just a near flawless book every month.

While I've liked EVERY Supergirl under Gates up till now, I have to admit to having a FEW issues with #41.
First of all, I HATED the fact that Gates fell back on the old standby of Goodbye speeches by gray characters... the superhackneyed "No! You foolish girl {/boy/idiot/whatever term is appropriate}, you don't know what you're doing" bit.
This is a lame Grade Z plot device used forever, not just in comic books but also in books and the movies. And the viewer/reader ALWAYS is left holding the bag with the question/comment they WISH the hero would ask/make "well, why are you wasting your last breath telling me THAT instead of telling me why I should stop".
Also, I feel kind of unsatisfied that this was supposed to be the big reveal issue, and it STILL seems in doubt if that was really Lucy.
And finally... SKABOOM? Who makes an explosion "SKABOOM"?

Even though she's going to obviously come back as a nemesis for the Superman Family, I enjoyed that a bad guy seemingly died. Sorry, but it's been freaking years in the DCU where atrocity after atrocity has been committed with zero punishment. There's a reason the convention of "died by their own devices" has been in comics since the beginning. It's perfect. We get some brief, cathartic justice with a touch of irony, though absolution for our heroes since they "technically" didn't kill the bad guy. I only wish Reactron had died as well. He sucks as a villain and it would be nice to see the humans in the DCU finally take one of these jerks down instead of constantly being cannon fodder.

from what I took from this ish, Lucy's suit was a containment suit ala wildfire, probably some kind of experiments were used to make human DNA into Kryptonian DNA but the process is unstable hence the discks and suit. imo after the whole contorting and explosion, she probably gets shunted off somewhere or gets atomized where later down the road she re constitutes herself. but in the mean time all characters associated with the title, Gen Lane, Lois, Supes and Kara will all think she's "popped her clogs" and act accordingly. and i also see another Superwoman showing up to be the heroic icon but mistrusted because of Lucy's actions.... but that's just my guess
Great issue though, Supergirl is turning out to be on of my fav titles, along with all the other super titles so far!

I was going to point that out myself, but thought I'd scroll through the rest of the responses first.
Yeah, Lucy going boom was a big surprise. Certainly didn't see that coming. Mind you, I'm not convinced she's actually dead yet, but it was still a shock.

That never happened because Superboy Prime punched a wall.
Maybe.
I finally read the issue. I found it a bit anti-climactic. And for a book that seemed to go against the grain (for a DC title anyway). This book was pretty much by the numbers.
Yes it was obvious that SG did not mean to kill SW, but still I was a bit disapointed in her reaction at the end. I felt that this issue was the issue where SG was supposed to shine but didn't. We'll see how it plays out in the future.
The artwork was really nice though.
