No surpise that Robinson and Rucka give out the typical answer that CA is to represent the decent aspects of the military versus the illegal crap that General Lane is pulling.

I'm so excited for this backup.

It sounds like these two definitely chomped at the bit to get The Captain into the Super-books. I'm a younger reader, so I don't know a lot about Captain Atom except for his powers and origins (thanks Wikipedia) and that he was AWESOME in Justice League Unlimited ... that he's the basis for Moore's Doctor Manhattan ... and that every time I've seen him in a book he's been lame, out of character Monarch ...

Anyone want to shed some light on what his story was like back when it was good fun?

Anyway, I'm glad he's back. He's got a good voice, a legendary look, and the way they're treating his power-level and ethics sounds right. Planet-Killer indeed.

And if I was to bring him back and need an explanation for the whole "Monarch Debacle" ... I'd do it in three words: "Splitting the Atom".

You should read Justice league europe up to the "breakdowns" storyline. Captain Atom was cool and a great leader in JLE.
