In the upcoming solicits, a story confirms that Daxam will be shown to be a Kryptonian colony. To my knowledge this is the first time they've done this as it was a bone of contention between the two in the 30th Century, with Daxam insisting that Krypton was the colony. Does anyone know of a story before this that firmly established Daxam as a Kryptonian colony?

Hm, I'm not aware of anything directly related to your question, but it leads to the issue of whether evolution exists in the DCU. It does not seem to exist in the universal scientific sense, but only as the plot allows. After all, there's any number of far flung futures where life has not really evolved. Making Daxam a colony sort of presses the point in a way that doesn't necessarily hold up under scrutiny. But from a creative standpoint, I think the mystery and controversy is generally better... if the explanation actually drives a good plot- fine- but if it's purely for explanation's sake, bollocks.

AH-HA! I knew that there was a direct connection between Daxam and Krypton. Sadly I have no knowledge to answer the question posed: Where was it stated that Daxam was the colony.
To my knowledge it was always understood that Daxam was similar to Krypton, hence Mon-El's powers, but that there was no relation between the two.

I heard the founders of Daxam were a religious group that left Krypton. The Eradicator altered their genetic code to make them vulnerable to lead so that they would die and not sway from their Kryptonian roots.

The way things are going on Daxam over in Green Lantern Corps right now they will be lucky if it even makes it to the 31st century.

Daxam was outed as a Kryptonian colony back in the '90's. They were all genetically altered by the Eradicator. This new story may rehash that or it might be a retcon.

...Pre-COIE, tho, the issue was up for grabs. Mon-El first stated the debate in an issue of LSH, with one side claiming the other was a colony and that they came first. However, years prior to that, in one of the backup features that ran in Action in the early 70's, Krypton got its own "Adam & Eve" story where two explorers from two rival worlds, Krypp and Tonn, became marooned on this planet that would eventually bear their name. Fan speculation, fueled by a comment made at a con by Elliot S! Maggin, led to it being essentially a coin toss as to whether Krypp or Tonn was a Daxamite, either one meaning that Krypton was the colony after all.

I figured that out during Sinestro wars basicaly when Ion had heat vision. They look weaker though, any explanation? Didn't they say they had like agoraphobia or something?

Eliott S! Maggin reference? Sweet.
I don't suppose someone could cite actual 90's issues where it was established Post-Crisis?

...Yeah, Maggin could write the Super-books really good, although I didn't particularly care for his Last Son of Krypton novel that came out after his Miracle Monday one. He made Luthor way too campy.

...Where which was established?

The lead weakness makes them alot more vulnarable just because it is so common as compared to Kryptonite. They are Xenophobic and dont like any alien conntact for the most part.

Saying the Daxamites are xenophobic is like saying a guy who just found out four girls are all pregnant by him at the same time, and none are his wife, is in a little trouble. It's a huge understatement.
They would kill anyone non-Daxamitian...er, Daxamian...Daxamite? aw hell, whatever it is. And then they'd stuff your body, make you look evil, and show you off as a boogeyman.

From wikipedia
"The Daxamites were originally Kryptonians who left their homeworld in order to explore the Universe. The Eradicator, programmed to preserve all Kryptonian culture, altered the birthing matrices ("artificial wombs") the explorers took with them so that the newborns would be fatally vulnerable to lead. Thus, if they persisted in their anti-Kryptonian wanderlust, they would all die from it. Later, The Eradicator altered the DNA of all remaining Kryptonian life-forms so that they would instantly die upon leaving the planet."

I'm thinking either in "Legion Of Super-Heroes" or "Valor".

I think DC should go with this version, and forget all the Eradicator garbage, which is amongst the worst of the post-Crisis crap.

You know this just makes me think that it would be good to see some Kryptonian history featured in some backup stories today. In fact with the increasing price of comics, I believe every comic should be longer and come with an 8 page backup feature along these lines dealing with DCU history and lesser characters.
And I don't really care which of the two is the colony. I'm just glad Mon-El and Daxam are back in comics!

They had always seemed similar to me, but I'd never heard that one was a colony of the other.
Very interesting and esp interesting with the whole Eradicator thing.

Anyone remember this guy? Seems there could be colonies set up everywhere, they talked about Kryptonians were once like the "Space Romans" way back in the day.
"We want Peace We want Peace!"
yes a piece of that planet and a piece of that planet....

...Yeah. The plot was basically recycled and used as the basis for Mon-El. That's one of the reasons he never resurfaced, in addition to the fact that they did a lot of "throwaway" characters like that back in those days.
