Thanks, but it wasn't that hard. The hard part was the cape, which she made. The rest was basically assembled. She found this great black leotard. I cut the Bat symbol out of foamboard, and we used the rest of the foamboard for the "wings" on her gloves.

Yeah, last night, unbeknownst to me as I was watching TV, my son climbed onto the armrest of the couch and did a bellyflop right on my chest.
As I tell people, my little girl is so sensitive. She loves animals and flowers. She has the soul of an artist.
My son, on the other hand, pretty much has the soul of an ultimate fighter.

I am just getting pics loaded onto my computer so prepare for the onslaught.
Kat's birthday is just 9 days before Christmas, so we have a very busy household during the month of December. Since Logan was born November 30th, this time of year will only get more and more busy.
We had both families over for Kat's birthday with lots of food and gifts. I wanted to make a big deal of her birthday, since it shouldn't be overlooked just because there's a newborn in the house.
My real 'pride' here is the cake I made for Kat. It a cream cheese Bundt cake with fresh blueberries inside and out, with a white chocolate/cream cheese icing.
That's us in the first pic - just before she blows out the candles.
The second picture is of our new family unit - Logan is 18 days old at that stage.

My .22 AR15 carbine. (I'm doing a magazine conversion right now, that hides the dinky .22 20 round magazines inside a USGI 30 round magazine. It involves a hacksaw and a lot of expanding foam!) The scope is an ACOG, an advanced combat optical gunsight! :D A bit much when you consider the gun is only used for short range gallery matches and so-on.
It really is astonishing how light this particular firearm is. Quite short as well, when you consider the collapsable stock.

Yeah, I am dreading those adolescent years. And without a mother for her to either relate to and/or rebel against, I will get ALL that responsibility. However, we have been thought a lot together and it will take a lot to get into the "I'm embarassed to even be seen with you" territory.
Then again, I've seen stranger things happen.

Because AR15s are evil firearms, when children use them, they say "Shit! This is fun. When I grow up I'm going to buy several"
Then they become struggling law students, and they can hardly afford basic necessities like food, hookers and advanced combat optical gunsights!

Unfortunately, if Red-Dawn has taught me anything, I'll be one of the first to "bite it" should the communazis invade. They'll simply find the firearms certificate registry, use it to locate my house, and hunt me down.
Y'know the scary thing about the manual for that gunsight? It reads more like -firstly- a manual on how to kill people and -secondly- a manual on how to kill people from (and in) moving vehicles.

Lots of people seem to like (or hate) that rifle in particular. Even fellow gun nuts are surprised to see it, I get a lot of "Wow! Is that really an M16?" to which I just nod and say "kinda" (it is -of course- not "technically" an M16 as it fires .22 ammunition instead of .223)

Heh!
This part of Europe has quite a long and illustrious tradition when it comes to the shooting sports. Y'know those foliage suits that snipers wear? The proper name for them is "ghillie suits", ghillie being the Scottish word for "man" or "gamekeeper". This name was adopted during WWI when the Brit forces attempted to counter German Jager (hunters) units. Apparently the best shots we could find were the Scottish Gamekeepers (ghillies).

Enjoy fatherhood, Scott (which you apparently are). For every frustration, there are ten moments of pure joy. And as you see him develop, you're going to enjoy every new experience. I'm really happy for you and Kat.
But dammit, they grow up too fast. My daughter's turning seven years old and it feels like yesterday when she was that small, and falling asleep on my shoulder every night. Now I'm watching her baby teeth fall out, and feeling old as the hills.

On Tuesday nights, Chick-Fil-A has a family night, and some cartoon character always makes an appearance. This week was Spidey, and since boratot is named after the wall crawler (Parker), we thought we'd go see him. At a distance, Parker was in awe. Up close, not so much.

At the start of the month, we have a big family vacation down to Costa Rica. Fun pic.
At four months he's on the verge of sleeping longer and more peacefully through the night.
He's a great sleeper, but lately it's become more of a matter of 'when' he chooses to get his 8 hours in.
Last week, he was a bit of a nighthawk - only really settling down sometime between 11:00 and midnight. That wasn't too bad, as he generally slept in until 8:00-8:30 or so. I get up for work at 7:15, so I get ready while he and Kat continue sleeping.
Last night, however, he crashed just past 8:00 and woke up hugnry at 4:15. After nursing, we tried to rock him back to sleep, but it just wasn't working. By 5:00, I decided to take him for a drive. That knocked him out. We got back home at 5:30 and he slept in the carseat by my side of the bed for another 90 minutes.
When you add it all up, he seems to be getting plenty of sleep. Me, on the other hand...
That's one beautiful baby.
Thanks, west.
I think so - but I've got that whole bias thing going on. The best thing about him, is that Logan has a wonderful personality. He cracks his Mom and me up all the time.

Here's are some fairly new pics of Logan.
The development in the past couple of months has been incredible. He'll be 7 months old on the 30th. He's now sitting on his own for long stretches of time, sleeping well through the night, rolling over with ease and trying his damndest to crawl.
Over the past few weeks, we've been introducing him to solids - both in the form of rice and oat cereals, as well as various 'Braun Hand Blender' delicacies such as sweet potato, squash and avocado. It's a little messy, but he has really been having fun with it - which is good because I hear some babies really only want the breast (and who can blame them!).
He and his Mom are up at the family cottage this week - I'm joining them on Friday, but I am missing them both a lot.

This kid doesn't stand a chance. We're already planning on Spider-Man (or Miner-Man as Parker calls him) bed sheets when we move him to a toddler bed. And it's not just my wishful thinking. The kid loves him. When I'm trying to read one of my Ultimate Spider-Man hardcovers or watch Spider-Man 2 on HBO, Parker wants to be right there with me. He even knows who Aunt May is.
So take that Peter Parker Kirkman!

My son has all of the above as well (as you can see in the pic of us above).
As to the name, my last name is "Petersen." "Peter Petersen" is too awful to contemplate. "Parker Petersen" was just way too cutesy.
So, I compromised. My son's name is "Riley." (Ben anyone?)
My daughter's name is a combination of the two loves of his life: "Mary Gwynyth."

Sparkles is almost 4, so she's full grown. But she still acts like a puppy.
She's 3/4 Yellow Lab and 1/4 Golden Retriever. The retriever comes out in her face which is longer and thinner than a labs.
Nate has been showing her for three years. This year he won Best Jr. Showman and a blue for showing. He'd have won Best of Show, but he stacked her facing the wrong way and lost out to the blonde in the blue sweater. The obedience judge was REALLY tough this year (and made a mistake). But he goes to District meet for obedience.
BTW, What are all the medals on the left?
Just various and sundry sports medals. Soccer, football, baseball, etc. Participation, mostly. Though his basebal team won the tri-city championship last year. Now he's pretty much concentrating on swimming. Between it and 4-H and T-ball for the little one it was a busy summer.

The previous year, all she could do was stare at the costumes for hours and looked at all the people and toys and stuff. This year, too cool for school. I will get my revenge, though. I thought I'd post something I'm very proud of. As my wife Morna, friend Lisa and I were gaining national recognition as glass artists in the 90’s we decided to build our own studio, Starfish Glassworks. We managed to scrape up private investors and opened a very public studio and gallery in downtown Victoria. That was in 1997. The gallery is set up and run to make shopping in our store an educational experience. People can watch us and our employees making glass every day and see what goes in to making everything from Christmas ornaments to huge plates with paintings encased in them to solid cast glass sculptural objects. We have a very skilled team of people who enable us to make to make things we couldn't have imagined when we opened 10 years ago. The artists who work for us are given access to the facilities and we have had the privilege of watching them develop their skills and gain recognition in the art world for their art. In the gallery we have displayed works made by over 80 artists from across Canada and do month long features of artist’s finest works. We have done a lot to further the careers of ourselves and dozens of artists but are also getting kind of burned out.
After ten years of running a destination glass gallery and studio we have decided to close at the end of the year and focus exclusively on our individual careers as glass artists. We feel very proud of what we have accomplished but aren't making enough money to continue justifying the amount of energy it takes to hold it all together. The next few months will be very interesting for all of us.

Best of luck, Gary. Keep us apprised of how things are going. I only speak for myself, but I try to support other members of the CBR community by buying their creations and wares when possible. I'd be happy to do the same for you. You look to be quite a gifted creator. So put me on the potential purchase list.
Which reminds me, I need to post pictures of howy's paintings I finally had framed and which are hanging over my bed right now. They're bottles of high-end bourbon and howy did a magnificent job on the commission.
Again, we're all in different spots financially, some good, some not-so-good, but personally I'd rather support a CBR community member if given the chance over someone I've never met. Hope others do the same.
Again, best of luck Gary.

Not a school really. We just use education to create more informed customers. Although we have offered a number of one day introductory workshops in bead making, glass blowing and sand casting. Again, we do that so that the students become more knowledgeable about glass art and hopefully buy more glass from us. One of our greatest accomplishments in this regard is turning our mail man into a full on glass collector because he came into our place and got hooked on watching the process.

You are lucky to own Bret's work. Morna and I spent a few hours at his bar a few weeks ago and saw some of his awesome work up close. I'd be thrilled if you wanted something of mine or Morna's.
Thanks for the warm wishes.

And...I just like this one of Connor.

That's a great picture. You get that blown up and framed yet?
I wish I were a half-way decent photographer, because one of my son or daughter like that would be a great present for my mom and step-dad.
How'd you get the sepia/dark tone?

It was taken with a camera phone, believe it or not. I fear that if it were blown up it would be distorted as heck.

Here are a couple of pics from Logan's first Halloween
He had no idea what was going on, but was pretty fascinated by the pumpkin and all of the people coming to our door. Sadly, he's in bed at 7:15 so he missed a good chunk of it.
Our pumpkin design was based on Logan's teeth - only 4 of 'em.

Someday, we'll do up some super nerdy costume for him, but this time around his Mom and I decided on the $6 pumpkin costume.
Great pics. Halloween + little kids always makes for cute pics.

Hair gnomes. They come in the middle of the night.
They start with the occasional sock, then move on to underwear, then start pulling hairs out of your melon in clumps. They usually then either deposit it on your back or ass, and leave enough in the bathtub drain to clog it permanently.
I have pictures of those little bastards. The world will find out soon enough.

First one is Olivia and some idiot she hooked up with named Charlie.
Second is Olivia pointing out some inconsistancies with something too smart for me to understand.

Here is a picture of the Beagle we named Daisy I gave to my wife as an engagement present. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q54/DLKern1963/Daisy.jpg She was such a good dog, we lost her to cancer five years ago now.

This is Otto, the Beagle I brought home not long after we moved to North Carolina. He's 12 years old now and a lot grayer than he appears in this photo, but he's still going strong.

This is Lucy, I found her along the side of Highway 311 not long after somebody threw her out of a car. She was 10 weeks old at the time.

Been a while since I posted pics of the kids, hasn't it?

Yes, that is a Supergirl costume Chelsea is wearing (The blurry-faced boy in the background is a party guest - he's not my kid, so better safe than sorry).

Seriously great pics, your kids are adorable, and I am gonna be safe here, your wife looks "nice".

Here's a picture taken right after they crossed the bridge into boy scouting.
