A friend e-mailed me a couple funny pictures of Alice. They were from a camp she worked at a couple summers ago.

These belong in the captions thread: ;) :D

Pic # 1 - OMG - the campers are HERE!

Pic # 2 - I’m gonna frickin’ kill that kid if she says that smartass thing one more TIME!

Pic # 3 – This camp food sucks. I think I’m gonna puke . . . .

Pic # 4 Popeye imitation

My boy and me (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/Dissonance21/IMG_0026.jpg)

You make a very cute couple. BTW – a little friendly “community advice” - don’t let ‘Dox see your pic. ;)

I am my pride. =/

I’d say something, but your avatar caption says you’re a dick so I’m afraid to . . . ;)

That’s nasty – and it’s too irregular to be an operation. What happened?

Here’s one of my favorite pics of my kids. It’s about 7 years old or so, but still one of my favorites . . .

Winslow, from every picture of your family you've shown, it really seems like you guys have a pretty close relationship, and genuinely dig each other. And that absolutely rules.

I know this picture isn't from SF, but how long ago was that trip? And where do you guys live when you're not at the Golden Gate Bridge?

Hey - thanks Beatnikman.

My daughter is 12 and beginning to flex her independent muscles. We're trying to adjust our parenting to give her independence, but keep her from making stupid decisions. But so far we do enjoy being around each other.

And no - we're from Philly. We took a two week vacation out west last summer (August 2004). We saw Mike and Angela Bullock in Phoenix (Mike is the writer of Lions, and Tigers and Bears - *shameless plug*) - then hit the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Bryce National Park, made the huge drive to San Diego to see the zoo, then north to Yosemite, over to San Francisco, hit the beach on the Pacific (see see the sun set rather than rise over the ocean!), and then back to Phoenix to fly back to Philly. I have a ton of pictures from that time. Great memories. Kids were young enough to appreciate it, yet not too old to pine for their teen friends. And my wife and I were young enough to hit the trails and enjoy the hikes in the canyons.

Sweet vacation! Zion is amazing, isn't it?

I work with enough teenage girls that I'm glad I have two boys.

But it sounds like you've got enough of a relationship foundation that you'll be able to continue to have influence during the next years.

Is that the one up at about a million feet? Man, I was huffin' and puffin' just walking from the parking lot to the lookout there.

I have a buddy who lives in Cedar City, and he was showin' us around those places a couple of summers ago.

its not as bad as it looks up close. the hair is roughly the same color as my leg, and from a few feet away not that noticeable.

Yeah - that's the one. It's 8,000 ft + up.

The air is so clean, the sky is a really deep blue even during the bright sunshine. It's gorgeous.

When I think of heaven - I think of southern Utah now (sorry West Virginia).

But when the kids started performing an asian dragon dance to rap music, I HAD to take a picture.

That is sleepy Hobbes. I had to get him out from the back of the closet and make him sit on the bed while I could get a shot. So he is both angry and sleepy in that shot. They are both the friendlist cats I have ever seen.

Calvin has taken to sleeping on me when I am at my computer. In fact he is sleeping on me now.

Hobbes has this look to him where I keep thinking of "Puss in Boots" from Shreck.

Awwwww - that's a great pic . . .

My parent's 50th wedding anniversary was last weekend, so we kids put on a party for them. It was a great time. We held the party outside at a park, and the weather cooperated. Here's some pics form last weekend:

#1) we rented a 70s convertible Gold Cadillac to take them to the party
#2) Close up in the Cadillac
#3) My Parent's laughing. I'd say laughter was a key ingredient to the sucess of their marriage.
#4) My folks 50 years ago.

Hey, I just got back from leading a trip to Baja with a group from my church. 14 of our 17-person team were Jr. High or High School students. We worked with a church in Ensenada, and painted a house for some people (that a group before us had built).

The kids were awesome, even though they were pushed far beyond their normal limits of comfort and work expectations. They all worked their tails off for five days, and definitely came home with a fresh perspective on how fortunate they (we) all are.

Here's my group, plus a few people we were working with in Mexico.

Our cat was sick and had to be put down last summer. But she would (I kid you not) jump up and balance herself on the top of an open door.

I have a pic of it at home - Now I HAVE to scan it and post it in here.

Couple of pics of my boys. The first is them on the caboose of an old train.

The second is Connor being Connor. He was playing pirate. Had a black bandana on his head (hard to see). A box for a peg-leg. and he's chewing on his scabbard. Oh, and Rugrat boxers are now the vogue in pirate wear.

I'm not taking the Remington 700 out of storage. The law requires it to be stored there unless I'm shooting or cleaning it. If the firearms inspectors showed up right now (which they do, every now and then, just to see that my rifle hasn't been stolen and to manhandle it and chew the fat with me for a wee while) they would take a hissy fit if it was out of the safe. (plus I can't really be bothered. I'm lazy, plus I'd have to host the pic on my webspace and all that)

"errr I'm just taking pictures of it officer."

It happened before and I just said I was cleaning it, no big deal. Anyways here is roughly what it looks like:

http://www.tacproshootingcenter.com/pix/AICSsm.gif

NOTE: That rifle is in .308 rem. Mines is .300 win mag. I also have a much crappier scope.

Took a standard Remington 700 long action in .300 winchester mag and got a gunsmith to install the stock system and the new bolt handle+feeding system. Job done. Some might call it a "sniper rifle" and they'd be right I suppose, but I use it to shoot holes in paper at around 1000 yards.

Pics of the chillun from this weekend. Connor put a cloak on Harry Bear and he was being a wizard.

The other is them in front of an old horse-drawn hearse. The hearse now resides in the Cassia County historical Museum. My Dad was one of the members of The Idaho Rangers who rebuilt it (it is a period piece) back in 1971. I rode in the back of it in a number of parades around that time. I also got a copy of the news article from when they first finished it (Dad was secretary of the group at the time). I'm going to try to get it cleaned up and send it to my Mom and siblings.

It's definitely okay to say it. Of course, if she read it she'd think that there was something behind the complement, because she doesn't know how to accept one.

Well one thing is that they're usually clean. Because little boys will always forget to change their underwear.

I dunno . . .

So many of us did it. There's probably some freudian explanation . . .

My friend and I used to pretend we were scuba divers and the legs holes were our vision panels.

I tried to find the "priceless" pic of the kid with dirty underwear on his head, but culdn't find it (I bet Stonegold can . . .)

she shoots nearly 1 MOA factory so I ain't got no complaints. Technically speaking, to qualify as a, "Sniper Rilfe" it has to shoot sub-MOA or better than 1 MOA for folks that might have been momentarily confused. (MOA is minute of angle, meaning that at 100 yards, two bullets will not land more than 1 inch apart if a rifle shoots sub-MOA)

I once shot a Parker Hale "sniper rifle" that clearly wasn't shooting under 1MOA. We were lucky to get "minute of bad guy" at 500 yeards OFF A BENCH REST! Sucky rifle. I think it was either:

A) A dud. A reject. A bad egg
B) Just needed breaking in (it was brand new)

All I can say is, I'm glad I wasn't the owner...

Goliath

likely just needed breaking in and a good cleaning, not to mention perhap just some tuning. the more accurate rifles tend to be a shade more tempermental. Might have also been ammo or shooter error at 500 yards. I mean, at 500, I might just barely eek out under a 8-10 inch group still. Then again I've only had a chance to practice twice with my rifle. Oh and I believe the popular term is "Minute of Goblin" :-)

Probably. Guy just took it out of the box and started shooting (heck, I don't even know if he got rid of the film of packing/storage grease)

Fussy little buggers indeed.

Possibly ammo. He was using milsurp .308  (yeah...in a highly specialised sniper rifle) and he could not even get sighted in. I took over and used some of my handloads to get it shooting straight.

Used the machine rest and was appauled by the accuracy...I'm glad the UK armed forces chose the AI over the Parker Hale as their sniper rifle.

"Minute of Goblin" :-)
I was going to say that, but some folks on the forum think that demonising bad guys by calling them "goblins" is a bit too non PC. (heck, some folks even get hot under the collar when I say "bad guys") ;)
