Okay...
A couple of things.
There HAS to be a wacky twist. So either Archie proposes to one girl (and winds up marrying the other) or somebody else proposes to Betty and/or Veronica, forcing Archie to take some kind of action.
Second, did anyone ever really see Archie/Veronica/Betty as a love triangle? Archie and Veronica? Really? It's pretty obvious that doesn't work. It's got to be Archie and Betty. Veronica is basically just a device to keep those two apart, not a real love interest.
Though, really, I'd be all for Jughead marrying Betty and Reggie marrying Veronica and Archie having to deal with it. Now, THAT'S realism.
And on a side note, I wonder why nobody has gone for a WB-style reinvention of Archie. It's fairly straightforward as a premise and the idea of getting beautiful people in these roles to cater to teens/tweens/nostalgic adults seems like a no-brainer.
Then again, the formula is basic enough that Dobie Gillis ripped it off and Scooby Doo was to Dobie Gillis what Flintstones was to the Honeymooners.
And, in retrospect, Archie seems like a kidified Dangerous Liasons.

He gets married but then at the last second a sniper takes out his bride and he's once again single...oh wait, that's James Bond.
But yes, I can't imagine for even a second that the status quo will be remotely changed by the time it's all over.

Aren't they all still in high school? Is this issue a look into the future, and then they'll go back to being eternally in high school?

Apparently they're graduating college in the regular Archie series now.
I know they've tried some shakeups over the last decade.

Maybe he'll cut a deal with Mephisto to get it annulled.

Did Archie knock her up, or something?
And, Jughead will not marry Betty. He is destined to marry Big Ethel, years later, when he's a successful therapist on the rebound from his first wife, and she's a supermodel. (TV movie I saw back in the day).

......actually, Reggie reveals he married Archie 10 years ago in a Las Vegas drive thru chapel, brainwiping Archie just beforehand and programming a certain keyword in his brain. Reggie says the word - "Mary Jane" oddly enough - and Archie snaps into a cataconic state, killing Betty, Veronica and Jughead, and thus begins his life as Reggie's gay hypnotized loverboy.

Big Love Archie. He moves to Utah and marries Betty, Veronica and Sabrina.

Please. He and Jughead finally stopped pretending. It's about time, guys. Congrats.
Big Ethel will be sad though.

I'm calling BS on this. The book lives on nondirect market digest sales you can buy in your local supermarket. Any major change to the status quo means people are going to stop buying those digests and no way are they going to do that.

they've done experimental stuff in monthlies that has no effect on the digests before. Manga Sabrina. Photo realistic Betty and Veronica. Fans of Archie don't get bent out of shape over such stuff cause they're either kids at a grocery store check out or nostalgic adults. I suppose there might be some continuity obsessed Archie fans but not like with superhero comics.

I never realized how much Saved by the Bell ripped off from Archie and the gang.

This is going to end with us finding out that Betty got pregnant to the Green Goblin, isn't it?

Photo realistic Betty and Veronica.
I thought they did that in the digests?

It's comics. He'll marry a monkey and it'll get annulled a week later.
Alternately, he'll marry Jimmy Olsen who thought he was marrying a monkey. Then the state will decide the marriage wasn't valid in a trumped up vote three months down the line.

Well, I don't know THAT much about Archie, but Betty and Veronica (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BettyAndVeronica) is pretty much the archetypal love triangle in fiction, so I imagine a lot of readers do see it that way.

The notion that Veronica is just a plot device to separate the true lovers doesn't hold up, really. Archie is all over Betty until another woman enters the picture, then, basically, gets bored with her, gets distracted, and off he goes.
This isn't Veronica's fault, no matter how she tempts him, because, really, the dude has free will and could simply choose to stick to Betty.

Betty is accessible, and therefore less interesting than Veronica, who isn't.
Witness the suckiness of the human romantic temperament!

You want to talk sucky? Lets look at the human doormats which are Betty and Veronica. We hardly (if ever?) actually see Betty or Veronica dating other guys yet Archie runs around between the and even includes the occasional one-off girl.
So Archie dates around and Betty and Veronica wait around for when he's free to date them. Yeah, right. Betty and Veronica need to kick Archie to the curb.

The weird thing about Archie is that Sonic the Hedgehog outsells every single other monthly title Archie does. And Archie's meant to be a US icon, isn't he? Sonic's much less popular than he used to be. It should be the other way round, really...

It's been a veeeeery long time since I actually read one of these comics, but, IIRC, Veronica did at least go out and date other guys (usually Reggie, admittedly); Betty was the one who sat around and pined most of the time. Either way, for alleged "best friends", they sure did seem prepared to slaughter each other for male attention at a moment's notice.
And, frankly, I never knew what either of them saw in Archie, either. I was a Dilton gal, myself. (As Living Between Wednesdays (http://livingbetweenwednesdays.blogspot.com/2007/12/archie-sunday-rockin-with-dilton.html) puts it, "he's the only person in Riverdale who isn't a complete horror of a human being".)

Oh, this is easy. Archie was replaced by a duplicate from a story in the 1980s or so. The duplicate marries one of the two girls, while the real Archie marries the other...

Betty and Veronica get married... to each other.
Archie and Jughead just doesn't work as well. But hot chicks marrying? Zoom! Instant readership! (well, I suppose not when the parents of the kids reading notice...)
But seriously for a moment... the issue is called "The Proposal" not "The Marriage". I wonder if we are all being had. Proposal happens, a year's worth of plots ensue, but no marriage.

Veronica and Betty are going steady! was the fabulous lyric devised by Ronnie at one point, though after an embarrassed look from Betty, she revised it to include some dudes, one of whom was named Freddie. But you, I, and the fourth wall know where she was going with that song.

He's marrying Jughead. I mean, several states just now legalize same sex marriage and wham... A week later he's registering china patterns? Riverdale HAS to be in New England.

This article explains it i bet.

The new CEO of Archie really wants to market the heck out of Archie, the gang, and all related properties. This means taking bold steps away from the safe archetype we've all known and love. And, I remember wishing there was more archie merch in the early 90s when I was reading them so I'm down with it.
Some of those Jugheads from back then played with continuity. issues 30-38 mostly. They were great and introduced a lot of new characters. But they sadly all went away with issue 39.
I don't really care if they get married, theyve been the same for like 70 years, and were never really funny. I mostly enjoy the dated styles in the older issues.
oh and Jughead, my idol...? Totally gay.
