Marvel is not a retailer friendly company.

For those who are not aware of it, Diamond prints a weekly newsletter (Diamond Dateline) that is given to every account. Included in that newsletter is a page with a list of price changes, content changes, and release date changes. Most of the content changes are from Marvel. Marvel solicits books with creator A, then has creator B on the book. They then list the change with Diamond just before the Final Order Cutoff (FOC) date. I would suppose that some retailers every week fail to get the change to their order, either from being too busy with something else or from being so inundated with information that they just miss the FOC. Marvel, in my opinion, is guilty of pulling the old bait-and-switch.

The retailer is Marvel's bitch.

I would bet that the moving ahead of the schedule has more to do with #75 being a Dark Reign tie-in than wanting to get #73 out to retailers to tie-in with the movie "fervor". The "Dark Wolverine" storyline needs to occur before Dark Reign itself is over.

I managed a comic book store (Comic Castle) for a few years a few years ago. Marvel was always a thorn in my side, as it showed nothing but contempt for retailers and its readers. It was always about appeasing some mythical audience that should have been beating down retailers' doors (but never was). Quite honestly, I was amazed whenever Marvel picked up a new reader.

It's nice to know some things never change.
