View Full Version : What comic characters have superior movie/tv versions?

The question is simple enough but I think it's a good one, what character or characters from the world of comic books actually improved upon being translated to film/television?

I'm fairly sure we'll get some B:TAS character mentions (Freeze, Clayface, I'm looking at you), but that's to be expected as that show was a high mark in every way. What are some others that we may not think about as much?

No.

Blade.

I agree, once ignoring the third film.

I happen to like Bruce Timm's Batman more than comic Batman

Blade, the first film. I can give or take the sequel. Atleast it was the first... no wait, second big Marvel film.

I won't mention the first one.:frown:

Aquaman in the current Brave and the Bold series.
(and actually in the Justice League cartoon as well.)

Some of my personal choices,

The Scarecrow (Batman Begins)

Hawkgirl (Justice League/Justice League Unlimited)

The Crow

A History of Violence

Tombstone from the Spectacular Spider-Man is a total badass, I like the comic character but the SSM version takes it to another level.

Wonder Woman from the Justice League/Unlimited Animated Series and from the animated movie is more interesting than the comic counterpart. Not that I dont hate the comic version but I just like the animated version more.

Iron Man( Movie Version)

Spider-Man( Film version and the Spectacular Spider-Man animated series)

Wolverine: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Sabertooth: Same movie

Gambit: Same movie

Nothing against the comic versions just that Wolverine, Gambit, and Sabertooth were more fun in the movie versions than the comics.

Superman from Superman TAS, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited. The animated version seems to have more of a personality than the comic version IMO

Green Arrow from Justice League Unlimited and Smallville.

Lex Luthor from Justice League Unlimited and Smallville. I felt Lex did more in both shows than he ever did in the comics

Hawkgirl (Justice League/Justice League Unlimited)

Also I add Nolan's Batman and Batman TAS for Jim Gordon

I would also agree with Iron Man and Blade.

Darkseid outside S:TAS/JL/JLU = Zzzzzzzz...

Even Professor Hamilton's eventual heel turn on those shows was nowhere near as lame it was in the comics.

I did the Wolfman/Colan Blade waaaaaayyyy more than the movies.

The movies had a better costume, the comics had a character with some actual depth.

Starfire... sure the ATT isn't even the same character--but, I still like it better than the comics. at least they got rid of the B-I-G hair! which could only improve things. so basically she's "what if Bubbles was a teenager?" but I don't see anything wrong with that.

oh, and I gotta second Darkseid... cuz I -hated- that character for ages and ages until I saw the revamp with the DCU in the 90s. he just seemed to ridiculously over-powered and unbeatable. at least in the STAS/JL/JLU version he's a serious threat--but toned down just enough to be sorta believable.

Scarecrow doesn't much interest me outside TNBA's "Never Fear," either.

Blade movies are one of the best of their kind. The first two are the best action/vampire movies hollywood has done in many years.

The Blade comics usually suck. Im not talking about the 70s but post 90s Blade which i have tried since i like Blade movie version so much.

Iron Man movie is better than the current version of the comics i have read.

Superman(Reeves movies) way over any superman comic i have read. Only good Superman story i have read is the Alan Moore one.

As of late, Batman (Nolan's version tops what Dini and Morrison have been putting out. No offense to fans of those runs, but that's just not Batman for me).

Blade, definitely.

And yeah, Iron Man (as much as I enjoyed the Knauf's version, the "Iron Fascist turned fugitive" thing isn't my bad).

I would thank Downey on bringing the fun Tony Stark back after putting up with the current Tony Stark in the comics. Hell Ultimate Tony Stark is alot better than the 616 version

I find Chris Reeve's Superman from the first movie superior to comic version.

Gotta disagree about the Chris Reeve Superman. That bumbling nerd routine was horrible. I think it really gave an entire generation (or two) of fans the completely wrong impression of Clark. Not Reeve's fault, though; he did a good job with the crap he was given.

I agree with Blade.

I might think Wolverine, but only because they haven't attached that whole Romulus/lupine crap.

Toad (X-men movies) - this is a character I've never been able to stand in the comics but in the movie he was kinda cool.
