Anybody have an opinion on if this series any good?
I see it's being released in TP next week, interested in some input . . .

It started off interesting but never seemed to go anywhere. The most interesting characters weren't part of the team and the art was bland. I'll give it a C+.

It was not bad, but it meander a lot. I generally like JF Moore's work, but he sent all the characters flying off in different directions early in the book, which would have been okay if he ever pulled them back together as X-Men. Spider-Man 2099, Doom 2099, and the first year of Ghost Rider 2099 were a lot better.

It was fairly decent but it suffered from a lack of actual direction and the team hardly felt like a team most of the time.

X-Men 2099 was fantastic. It certainly didn't read like a regular team book would. I think that is part of what makes it so great.

 I like it. The villians were sorta cheesy, but in that good 90's way.
Actually, thats the best way to put it... it's a very 90's book. Thats all I can say.
But I have all the issues, I didn't even know they were putting it in trade. Pretty cool.

It's true, the actual team itself never exactly materialized, did it? It was kinda like Heroes, small groups of characters interacting and (ostensibly) contributing to an overarching plot, but never fully coming together. I heard they eventually did and became the guardians of some mutant city or something, but I'd stopped reading by then.
Without spoiling it for those who haven't checked it out yet, Tim's abrupt... change in personality after a year or so really caught me off guard. Did he ever go back to being the more normal POV character, or did he stay a thrill seeker?
EDIT: what I find hilarious in kind of a metafictional way was that issue where one of them spots someone flying with metal wings and wonders if it could possibly be Archangel, still alive 100 years later. I remember when he regained his feathered wings in the main books, I remembered that 2099 story and thought, "Heh, guess they never heard about that part of things in the future." And now, a few years later... he's got his metal wings back again. Cycles, man.

Yeah, how much of the 2099 run are they reprinting?
Will we get Doom 2099? That's what I'm hanging out for.

What I liked about X-Men 2099 is that it took risks. The team fell apart pretty much from the beginning and never came back together. One of the main characters for all intents and purposes became "possessed" and never really regained his old personality. It just was off beat in a time when that wasn't really possible. I enjoyed the work. I can see the unfocused criticism, but it's part of what I liked. You never knew what was going to happen. The good guys didn't always win or get the girl. it was a fun ride.

wow im so glad someone brought this up, this was my favorite series when i was a kid, whoever said it was badass in a totally 90's way hit the nail on the head, so i personally loved it although i could see why it may not be some of you alls favorite, but definatly worth the read if your into that time period

They had some interesting characters. However the team fell to pieces from the word go. And because of that, the story just did not seem to go anywhere.
I enjoyed it, but like a lot of people have said, it didn't seem to have a real direction and the characters never felt like they were a team, just a group of people that interacted once in a while.

It was OK, nothing spectacular. Spider-Man 2099 was far better IMO.

I liked the team alot. There were actully alot of really good characters in the 2099 X-Men books, and in the spin off X-Nation book too. Maybe not the greatest stories ever told, but some really itneresting characters and powers. It is worth buying.

I always felt there were some great ideas and characters on X-men 2099 and X-Nation that should have been brought into the proper X-Universe...
Twilight and her "Sphere of Influence" was neat...
Cerebra was cool... but her current 2099 redux incarnation has a better "look".
La Lunatica had an interesting power...
Junkpile's absorbtion of ambient materials was interesting...

Speaking as someone who was an intern under Joey Cavalieri and Matt Morra while the series was being produced, I have to say that it was well worth the read. It was a complete departure from the kind of thing you would expect (Hi, I'm Cyclops' great grandson and my whole team is made up of decedents of past X-men) which really would have been a bit of a corny read. Instead they went with all-new characters (still mutants) and yet they kept dropping hints at all the disasters that had befallen our "modern day" mutants.
Twilight's original name, by the way, was going to be "Zona Rosa" (and her "sphere" was going to be a "pink zone") but it was decided that people might not get the William Gibson reference.

I alway like BloodAngel. The Mutant that refuses to be any part of the X-Men 2099, however he's always seems to be bumping to the team time and time again.

BloodHawk, you mean? Yeah, he was a great character. He had a troubled past that we never got the full story of. Alas, the stories we'll never hear.

BloodHawk was really the only character that didn't ring my bell. I LOVED Serpentina! and Metalhead!

Alas, poor Serpentina. We hardly knew ye.
And, yes, Metalhead totally rocked. (no pun intended :-)

i liked how krys would project zillions of crystalline shards on her enemies (not much effective against the invulnerable ones but still nice to look at  )

The first issue featured a blue foil cover on cardstock and the double-sized 25th issue's cover was extra-glossy with foil letters, metallic silver ink, and embossed characters on a heavier wraparound cover.
In Marvel April 2009 previews, a mini-series called Timestorm 2009/2099, brings back Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, the X-Men and more of universe 2099

It could have been worse. I liked a few characters and hardly remember any of their names. Brimstone was a cool ass villian. Skullfire until he blew up and came back as a dust cloud was my favorite. He reminded me of Cyclops or Gambit just totally off his rocker. X'ian (or something like that) was another interesting character. His powers were neat and original, very similiar to a "new" x-man character a lot of people like. FoolKiller was the MAN!!!!

I hope the 2099 relaunch piques enough interest so we can revisit this section of the Marvel Universe again. Get an established team together in a shorter timeframe, make sure whoever takes over the book or mini, has some love for the characters.

I loved that "fake" X-men team they introduced. I think their names were Frostbite, Monster, Psycho K, One Eyed Jack, and ... that one guy who was the Angel stand in. His name I can't even come close to remembering. Still, that was a great set of villians. I wish we could have seen more of them.
Didn't much caree when they got mutated further and became more monsterous though.
The Driver was also a great one, especially fater he went mad when he relized what he was doing didn't actually work.

Eddie was the best part of 2099... His character had so much potential.

I don't think it will work unless they get the original 2099 creators back. They've made a few attempts already to bring 2099 back and all of them fell apart. It's just not the same without the writers and editorial team that got it all started.
I really credit Joey Cavalieri with being the reason things worked out so well the first time. People don't realize how much effort he put into keeping the whole "world" intact and consistent... and how he built up the world step-by-step by getting different plates spinning at the same time.
