View Full Version : Who is Rachel Grey's Nemesis?

So how about it, folks? Who's the baddie that makes Rachel's skin crawl? Who's the one who keeps coming back again and again to make her life miserable? Who's the one that offers her the greatest challenge and hold the mirror up to her, presenting a struggle both physically and mentally?

Could it be Selene? The nefarious, immortal mutant sorceress has wanted a taste of Rachel's power since she arrived in the X-Men's timeline and has come close to killing her on more than one occasion! The last time they fought, Selene declared that she'd always come for Rachel when she least expected it . . .

Perhaps it's Nimrod and the Sentinels? These organically challenged, mutant-hunting monoliths plagued the alternate future that Rachel hails from, and have tormented her across time and space again and again! When the O*N*E offered its services to "protect" the X-Men, Rachel began to have flashbacks to her home time and desperately wanted to lash out against them! Of course the futuristic special Sentinel unit Nimrod has proven that it's hard to keep a good murdering machine down, appearing again and again to battle the X-Men and try to end their pasts as well as their futures! Does Rachel deserve another shot at it?

What about the Shi'ar race and the Empire's special hit squad, The Death Commandos? They slaughtered Rachel's entire bloodline and severed what little connections she had to her mother . . . Quite literally! Marking her for death with a massive tattoo that has been genetically seared on to her flesh and grouping her with the likes of Dark Phoenix, the Shi'ar race itself has always been out for Rachel's blood!

What about the vicious cyborg slaver Ahab? He enslaved Rachel and made her a Hound; bound to serve the evil Sentinel empire and go after her own kind! He then chased Rachel through the time stream and endangered the lives of her friends and teammates in his relentless pursuit of her, quickly becoming one of the X-Men's most menacing foes. His evil seemed gone forever until the centuries old mutant Apocalypse seemingly twisted Rachel's former friend and colleague Rory Campbell into a new, present-day version of Ahab called Famine--Although this villain and Rachel have yet to cross paths, a fight between the two seems inevitable!

But of course there have been many other villains and beings that have wanted to see Rachel dead. Necrom the Anti-Phoenix, for example, and the World Devourer Galactus present threats to Rachel on an unbelievably massive scale! The Beyonder sought to make Rachel his consort and nearly tricked her into undoing all of reality! Elias Bogan enslaved Rachel and made her into that which she hated most; a mutant hunting other mutants for the second time in her life! Emma Frost not only took her mother's place at the X-Man Cyclops' side as his lover and companion, but also sought to school Rachel in the use of her own abilities!

So, who's it gonna be, folks?

Common sense and good taste.

This is a bit similiar to the "Who did Rachel the most harm" thread. And Christopher Claremont seemed to be winning in that one.

If you mean head to head battles, I'd say the Sentinels and maybe Selene second. But Rachel always loses to the likes of Jamie Braddock and Spiral, no matter how powered up she is... so maybe they are worse nemesissies.

I'd have it the other way around; I think Selene makes a great nemesis for Rachel, with Nimrod a pretty close second. Of course, neither has fought Rachel recently, unless you want to call her fight with Selene during the Hellfire Club caper in 2005 recent.

If the definition of nemesis, is enemy that cannot be defeated? I think Ahab has not been defeated yet.

I already did this poll.

Other (stairs) is the correct answer. Other (date rape) was a close second though.

It's basically the same as 'arch enemy', though it originally was the name of a goddess of vengeance.

I already did this poll.

Other (stairs) is the correct answer. Other (date rape) was a close second though. Then it would help if there were actual villains that were either stair-themed or date rape-themed.

Rachel can never have enough enemies.

R'Chel's not fit to spitshine Selene's glorious boots.

So how about one of the Death Commandos? Or Korvus' pubic feathers?

Why isn't Mojo mentioned?

Rachel can never have enough enemies.
Chris Claremont is 3rd. The Glitterati come in last (again).

I would have loved to have been a poll option on this one.

Perhaps when you graduate from Trolling school? One step at a time, you can do it.

Maybe you shouldn't randomly troll people 4 hours after they posted. You can do it.

I always thought nemesis and arch enemy were, different terms if that is the way to call it. Like, an arch enemy can be defeated but a nemesis is not?

Nemesis has a more "evil-opposite" sound to it... like, Magneto may be Cyclops arch-enemy, but he is Xavier nemesis...

To me Ahab will always be her primary nemesis.
