I've been reading in this forum how fans have been greatly impressed with Mike Carey's work on X-Men and X-Men: Legacy, and I wanted to point out that Carey has a new ongoing creator-owned series from Vertigo entitled The Unwritten starting next week. Art is by Peter Gross, Carey's primary collaborator on Lucifer and in my opinion, one of the finest artists working in the industry today. In addition, the first issue is only $1.00US for 40 pages, which makes it a great deal.

The Unwritten is the story of Tommy Taylor, a twenty-something Z-list celebrity trading on the stories his father wrote about a boy magician who was based on Tommy and shared his name. At a convention, a graduate student presents Tommy with information that everything he knows about himself has been doctored, and questions his very existence. This blurs the line between fiction and reality, and a group named the Unwritten suddenly have their eye on Tommy.

If you enjoy the great characterization and inspired plotting that Carey is known for, you may want to pick The Unwritten up next week. I think it's going to be a great ride.

Right on.

I can't wait to read The Unwritten. I've never been that excited about a Vertigo book since Y The Last Man.

Hope everyone here give it a try!

This book is going to blow your preconceived notions of what sequential art (comic book is too pedantic a term to describe the culturally-enriching achievement by all involved) should strive for.

And it has Lizzie Hexam. Sold.

I read everything Mike Carey writes in hopes of catching a glimpse of Miss Sinister.

Hmm. Sounds interesting. A fictional character with an avatar in the real world?

I can't wait till the master scribe Carey delves into the motivations and fashion choices of Miss Hexam. I'm eager.

Sweet, I thought we still had longer to wait for that.

Much as I love the X-Men, Vertigo seems to bring out the absolute best in Mike Carey, so I'm in.

Unfortunately just the first issue will be $1. I think it's $2.99US after that. Vertigo also tends to price the first tpb for each new series (5-6 issues) at $9.95US, which is also a great bargain.

It would be cool if Marvel threw out a $1 issue for something like Captain Britain and MI-13, which is a great series with sales hovering around the cancellation point.
