Think of it like this:
You are paying a small fee to go in a comic shop and read any comics you want. You pay the fee so that no one gets upset with you because you aren't buying anything.
With cover prices rising more often, more people are dropping titles. So if you couldn't buy it how much to read it?

A penny. I wouldn't feel comfortable reading at the store.

Valid point, but what if you could read them at home?

(Not to upset the balance of this thread too early), but I think the price of comics today is kind of a good thing, because it forces you to have to buy only comics that you'll enjoy the most. And, if you feel the urge to try a new title, I (maybe erroroniously) would imagine the titles one most enjoys is (severely, TIC) limited anyway, couldn't that maybe allow room for at least one new title to test drive/read at some point?

$1.00. Go back to using newspaper. Recycling makes it cheaper, reduces costs and helps the environment.

I agree. It is interesting though, because in a case like that you might never pick up an issue unless either you hear something about it or the cover grabs your attention.

Can't you already do this with Marvel Online?
