No, I don't mean the giant bullet scenario from Astonishing X-Men. I'm talking from way back during her Excalibur days, #41 to be exact.
In this issue, the Excalibur team is reunited with some of the X-Men (Wolverine, Rogue, Colossus, Psylocke, Storm and Jean Grey) after having thought them dead for some time.

Later, Kitty has an ominous moment with "Storm"...

Now, this is the last we see of Kitty in the issue until near the end ("Storm" is not shown again at all). Eventually, the "X-Men" are revealed to be Warwolves, who are known for killing and then stealing identities (except for the X-Men shown in this issue). They were there to kidnap Rachel and take her back to MojoWorld. They merge into one big Warwolf and try to to bring Rachel through a portal...

...but are stopped by a quick save from Kitty. Notice, though, there are only five Warwolves shown. Now obviously, why would one of the Warwolves stop the others from carrying out their plan? Maybe it had an agenda of it's own? Would that mean it killed Kitty and has been posing as her ever since? I know, it was probably just a mistake, but could the writers have had something planned for the future?
