View Full Version : Beast or Angel:Who would you prefer on a team?

Beast seems to get way more push than Angel who usually just stands in the background silent. If only one of these characters got to be on a team who would you prefer and why

I would prefer Angel not Archangel, and have Beast as a supporting character

I'd want Beast over Angel or Archangel anyday.

Angel has never really impressed me otehr than one scene in Kyle/Yost's recent X-Force.

Beast brings something other than combat to the table.

Angel is the better fighter, but Beast gots the brains...Beast.

I just like the visual Angel brings with his white feathered wings (not metal wings)

Winghead

Yea I like the idea of wings too. I really hope he doesn't go back to archangel full time

Beast is one of my least favorite characters, but I would feel safer with a genius on the team. Angel can fly but Beast can figure everything out. Unless Angel had his healing powers like he did for five minutes years ago, I'd go with Beast.

I like Beast, but a tough choice.. I can not really find fault with Angel either.

Nicoclaws

I'd rather see the Original 5 as support team... like in the background, important but not what the story's about. Beast as a med, Angel as a money-bringer, Cyclops as a "king", Sage as a coordinator... maybe Iceman as a field leader, it's time to give him a more important role.

Beast.

Beast.

A 1000 times Beast. I love ole Hank and Warren is probably my least favorite X-Man. I don't even hate him. I can't muster the energy. He's just so.....dull!! And the only interesting thing they've done with him (the Apocalypse thing) kinda got old real fast. The "What have I become?! Curse you Apocalypse!!" angsting just kinda makes me yawn now.

Archangel and Dark Beast are the only correct options.

Since Beast became an emo feline...I'd say Angel. Archangel that is. Before then, he would just fly, use a cannon, and pick up and drop his enemies.

Angel, in any incarnation, but preferably just as Angel. Beast has had years now on the A-list and has done nothing with it. He is such a bore, and Cat Beast is garbage. Warren has not been as overexposed. There is more potential there.

And really has the Beast must die campaign not proved how irrelevant Beast is?

Beast all the way. He contributes a lot more as far as fighting and as a scientist. Yeah it's nice to have Warren's money but I'd prefer the brains.

I dont know why its okay to give Hawkman a mace & a shield, but we cant have Angel w/ feather wings carry some type of stun gun & maybe a energy shield for his arsenal. Anyway I would want warren to join some type of PR team as he is now, and Beast the same or take a position in mutant affairs with the working with Val Cooper in the government or a position with the President similar to the end of X3

Exactly. Writers also fail to use Warren's heightened strength, or the fact that his wings are strong enough to break someone's bones. Some authors have utilized these things but very few do. It's just a matter of good writing and Warren as Angel has not received much of it.

Beast on the other hand has gotten a ton and still fails.

He's been great in Astonishing as a doddering old fool that has his neck snapped by Hisako.

And in Uncanny, he's upstaged by Forge tech, talking coffee machines, Kavita Rao's uber-toothiness, and Madison Jefferies' fine selection of luxurious flannel.

Angel got an alternate Magik's Soulsword for a weapon. Course it's never been seen since. But would be pretty cool for him to wield it.

Beast definetely has to join the Mighty Avengers, he was at his best with the Avengers, far more at home than with the X-Men

I like both characters, but it's Angel by a landslide for me. Warren has always been a favorite of mine, while Beast's consistent presence on a X-team has kinda reached a saturation point for me (not overexposure mind you, but Beast has just been such a constant in a lot of the X-titles I've been reading that I'm yearning for new/varied blood). Not to mention, I've never been much of a fan of cat-Beast (turn him human-looking again or at least ape-like), so I'd probably still vote Warren if I wasn't such a big fan of his.

Same here. I despise Cat Beast, but Ape Beast is in my top 5 favorite X-Men.

Ape Beast should be an Avenger though. He makes a better Avenger then an X-Man. Beast sucked until he joined the Avengers, the Avengers made Hank great. Morrison made his craptacular.

I hate to offend anyone, but Claremont ruined him by making him a cat in the first place. Everything after that was a downward spiral.

Claremont didn't make him a cat, Morrison did. X-Treme X-Men had Ape Beast in it, Morrison was not going to use Ape Beast for his run, but changed his mind, and came up with the Cat Beast idea. Claremont had to give Hank to Morrison, so the transformation took place in X-Treme X-Men, but Claremont did it for Morrison's soon to come New X-Men stories, it was not Claremont's idea at all.

IIRC, the cat form was "previewed" in X-Treme X-Men first, then Hank debuted in Morrison's run already cat-ified. I always thought it was Morrison's idea to make him all catty and to sorta evoke a Disney's Beauty and the Beast vibe.

It's all cool.

I love most of Morrison's DC work in the 80's and 90's, but his X-Men run was craptacular for the most part. He did however have a few good artists for his X-Men run, so I bought some of his X-Men for the art alone. Morrison does a much better job with DC's characters then Marvel's.

But I prefer Hank to Warren, simply because Hank is smarter.

Question, what do you hate about feline-form ? I mean, I prefer that to he generic kinda-animal form he had before, with the strange hair marvel seems to give to animal-like characters, even if I don't understand what is their inspiration.

Ape Beast wasn't as fug. Like you could sort of entertain the idea of sleeping with him and not regretting it. With Cat Beast I'd rather have him euthanized

Hm, I knew him only in blue form in the 90s, and he never stroke me as a "ape-man", more like a "blue beast-thing sorta".

He's just been drawn very differently (I mean it's more than just your standard style shift) from artist to artist in his cat form, and the inconsistency just kinda bothers me. Truthfully, I prefer his original human-looking form and his agility powers with the big hands and feet. There are/were enough feline/feral mutants.

Before the horrid Cat form, some of Hank's mutant powers were super agility, now he's a big clumsy oaf.

And since his Morrisionization, he has been written as a total bore, no more is he a positive jovial character, he's a brooding a-hole. No thanks.

I love Hank as a character, but in his Cat Form, as others have said, I'd rather he just be killed off. I'd rather have no Beast, then Cat Beast. Maybe if he's killed off, and if Marvel brings him back some day, he might come back in one of his ape like forms, blue or caucasian, either is fine .

ill be honest, when the feline beast was introduced i was so upset by the change i wanted to literally fight everything...like my desk or the nearby lamp.

but over time ive begun to like the change, i think due to a better overall design in recent months.. especially in Ghost Boxes. It made Hank look like the distinguished scientist, brain that he is, even if it was only a glimpse at an Alt. Universe.

All in all, I would pick Beast simply bc he's irreplaceable.

There are tons of other flying X-men i could choose from instead of Angel, but really only one Beast when it comes to his resourcefulness.

They are both favorites of mine, but Beast has been so overexposed, being featured in Astonishing, and Uncanny. Angel on the other hand, is probably my all time favorite character. I hope they figure out a way to keep Angel as his normal persona, and Archangel his combat persona. I also hope he ends up being lighter in character as archangel like he did after a while the first time.

Beast by a country mile. Warren bores me to tears except when he's Archangel and that's only because he looks cool. I love Beast's dorky humor and what he brings to a team. I rather enjoyed Endangered Species and the science team is pretty cool in Uncanny at least to me.

Call me crazy but I actually like the cat form. I always thought he looked too much like Wolverine before especially with that hair cut.
