I just recently started picking up X-Men again. I had stop reading during the Zero Tolerance Arc back in the mid to late nineties. Can someone fill me in on what has happened since then. I know about House of M, but other than that I don't know why Bishop is trying to kill a baby or why Emma is with Scott. Can someone help me out here?

Bishop is going after the messiah child as he thinks it cause a big disaster in the future, cable is trying to protect the child as he, and the rest of the X-Men believe she is the future of mutantkind.

Emma is with Scott cause Jean released Scott from his guilt and they are apparently in love.

Anyways...more stuff that happened since OZT...

-Psylocke died, came back to life.
-Colossus died, came back to life.
-Mostly all of the recent CC comics have the characters saying their names and describing their powers for half an issue every month. Also, everyone seems to make out with everyone.
-There's a ton of new students...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xavier_Institute_student_body...but a bunch of them have gotten blown up or shot in the head...
-The Legacy Virus was cured. But then came back.
-Havok, Polaris, and Rachel are part of the Starjammers.
-Prof X got shot in the face, didn't die, but lost most of his memories and went on a quest to get most of his thoughts back together and fix things from his past.
-Kitty is trapped inside of the giant bullet traveling through space.
-We still haven't seen Stevie Hunter since the early '90s.

I would start off with the Messiah Complex trade, it will explain a lot of the current status quo.

After that I would pick up X-Force : Angels and Demons trade as it is an excellent read.

After that I would grab the Uncanny X-Men: SFX (#500-503?) trade it will explain the move to San Francisco.
