I'm not a big fan of the DC universe but after reading lex luthor man of steel, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could recommend me some other great story arcs or issues including or exploring the character. Elseworlds or just in the normal continuity. Thanks.

Lex Man of Steel is great, probably the best modern Lex comic story. Did a great job exploring Lex's secular humanism side, a motivation Maggin created for Pre-COIE jumpsuit Lex in his 1978 novel "Last Son of Krypton."

Recommended Lex Luthor stories (no particular order):

-Superman They Saved Luthor's Brain TPB (which has the classic Superman #2 in it, first app of Lex's kryptonite ring)
-Superman: President Lex TPB
-Superman/Batman: Public Enemies TPB
-Superman #9 (1987)
-Superman #131 (1998)
-Superman For All Seasons TPB
-Superman: Up, Up and Away TPB
-Lex Luthor: The Unauthorized Biography (one-shot) (used to be Lex's post-Crisis origin)
-Superman Krisis of the Krimson Kryptonite TPB

I hate to say it, but the tv show "Smallville" Seasons 1-7 (written by comic writers) probably does the best job of all of these above of exploring all of Lex's complex dimensions (secular humanism, thirst for power, xenophobia, megalomania, jealously, paranoia/secrecy, ability to manipulate, womanizing). The show also does a phenomenal job of showing you how good a person Lex could have been and almost was.

Birthright has a similar Lex Luthor to Luthor: MOS.

In continuity, Superman: President Lex is Luthor's ascension to the Presidency... but not great reading IMHO.

Bruce Wayne: Murderer?
Bruce Wayne: Fugitive

Show how deadly President Luthor is as a manipulator... completely upending Batman's life.

There was a really great one-shot issue chronicling Luthor's rise from the slums (pre-Birthright retcon)... but I can't remember the issue # right now, maybe someone can help you out.

Elseworlds or just in the normal continuity. Thanks. If Elseworlds are on the table, definitely Superman: Red Sun.

The Joe Kelly russian zod storyline (which isn't collected) had Lex being heroic for a change. After Zod impersonated superman and overtook the united states , Lex escaped and rescued superman who was trapped in space around the red sun. Crap ending though.

Superman Adventures 27 is a good Luthor story despite being in a comic based off of the animated series.

Superman #131 (1998)

I'll second this one, gladly. It's basically the tale of what Lex Luthor did on the day his daughter was born, with some peeks into his past along the way. Re-read it a few years ago and it's aged surprisingly well regardless of whatever the changes to canon and/or character directions may be all these years later (or the fact it's from the 'Minty Fresh Superman'-era).

You can probably get a copy dirt cheap from any back issue bin.

Two of my favs.

Lex Luthor: man of steel
Superman: up up and away.

I enjoyed birthright for what it was at the time.

All star superman is excellent and lex is portrayed pretty well in that comic too.

The Superman books during "Exiled", featured a back-up tale called "Hostile Takeover". It centered on Lex's attempt to take control of S.T.A.R. Labs. You'd have to buy the individual issues rather than the trade for that one. "JLA: Rock Of Ages", which features Lex leading the Injustice League in a hostile takeover of the JLA.

I was about to recommend the same exact ones you mentioned there.

Lex Luthor Man of Steel and Up, up, and away are very good contemporary Lex stories and Birthright had a great Lex as well. There's still a lot of stuff being done with him over in the Superman books during the New Krypton storyline and there seems to be more coming in perhaps Adventure Comics.
