but I ended up with this:

2009 carmine red Toyota Yaris. It's hardly a stud mobile but I can afford it and I got my swaybar and rear spoiler that I wanted.
0% financing helps too but that was offered by Toyota, I didn't have to deal for that.
Overall, I'm pretty happy, just really tired now as I signed for it this morning well after my work night was over. Now I'm off to sweet dreams - I hope! - and not some nightmare about fees and more zombies!

It's cute, and I'd prefer a man who drove that as opposed to one thinking he needs to compensate for something else.

I like it!
And I hate car negotiations too.
We just bought a new car. 2007 Ford Focus. Why a Ford?
It went this way.
1997 Mercury Sable wagon dies a death of broken starter, broken spring, and various and sundry messes.
I call my brother at the dealership he manages.
Me: HELP! I can't afford to fix my old car and I can't afford hardly any payment on a new car.
Him: Let me see what I can do.
Two days later:
Him: All set.
Me: Huh?
Him: 2007 Ford Focus. Payments are under $200 per month. It's a dealer loaner car, no one else has ever repaired it. I doubled checked it myself.
My husband goes to pick it up. Drops off Sable Wagon which brother will use for parts.
I like my brother.

I had a 2002 Ford Focus hatchback and I LUUURRRVED that car! It was the BEST CAR EVER! It ran great, I didn't have any repair problems with it... it was PURE AWESOME!
And then a stupid bitch in an SUV ran a red light and literally sheared the entire front end off.
Now I have a Nissan Versa Hatchback. It's okay but I still miss my Focus :frown:
It was funny because one time, when I took my Focus in just for regularly scheduled maintenence I looked around the dealer garage and there were two more Focus hatchbacks and a Focus station wagon all in there together. I was like: "Look! It's a flock of Foci!"

My cousin-in-law is a lawyer and has the nick name of pit bull. When I buy my next car, which shouldn't be a while as I bought a Honda and they are built to last, I'm taking her with me. I pity the poor salesmen who going to have to deal with her.

I went through negotiations back in November or so. Wanted a new car, and my dad alerted me to a 2007 Hyundai Elantra he saw in an ad at a local dealership. $12K with an automatic $4K trade-in. $8K was thus budgeted. Sweet.
.....well, when we got to the dealership and sat down with them, it turns out the $12K was not the pre trade-in price, it was the post trade-in price. So I was about $4K off.
About an hour and a half later.........I had it for $8.5K.
But man, that was a TOUGH hour and a half.
And don't ask about the air conditioner. Just......don't.

I like the car, but then, I'm a fan of the hatchback in general.
In 2003 I got one of these.

It's not always about dick size or whatever the overcompensation bromide is.
I have a Honda Accord. I like it. The gas mileage is good. It's solid. Easy to keep up with.
But I do miss my Acura TL 3.2 Sport.
Not because of my widdle weener. But I like the gear shift option and the smooth ride at over 80mph.
Black leather seats. Tinted windows.
Just miss it.
Sometimes the car is more about what it does for us guys than what women think it says about us.
Good choice on the Yaris, DMJ. A friend has one and loves it. I like the spoiler. Compensation or not, it's a nice touch.

I have a 2000 Grand Prix GTP. It's running like shit currently and not in the greatest condition and I'm debating trading it in. The payments are ridiculous (over $300 a month) and I need some more income since me and my girlfriend are moving out to our own apartment and it would be nice for any and all income I can get. But I only have less than a year left to pay on my car.
Decisions decisions.
And frankly, who cares what it looks like. If you're happy with it, that's all that matters. It may not be a speed demon or anything, but if it gets you from point A to point B without falling apart, and is affordable...can't complain too much.

When I was negotiating for my Civic, the guy threatened to take away the floor mats if I didn't accept his offer. Thankfully, he was bluffing.

I do computer support for car dealers, so I have to work with them every day. Some of them live up to (or is that down to) the worst stereotypes of the industry, but not all - some dealerships are really quite pleasant to work with. If you're not happy with the dealership or the salesman you're talking to, go to another one. There are good ones.

Yeah, this is true.
My brother is a good guy, for instance. He took good care of me, yes, but he does that for his customers too. About the only thing he wouldn't do for them that he did for me was to give us an excellent deal with the financing.

Same color as pictured. A buddy of mine called me up and asked me if I was interested in a 2008 Toyota Tundra. To take over payments and all. Now I had seen it and it is pretty awesome. He just put new tires on it as well.
I drove over and tested it out. Ohhh boy she can go baby. I barely gave it the gas and I was running 65 down the interstate. And the gear shift being on the floor in a pickup was pretty weird for me. I have never had a pickup with a gear shift down in the floor.
So we discussed it...and he told me he pays $800 bucks a month ! And thats not counting insurance. I was like...holy fuck. Its a leap paying no monthly truck payment to something that could run near $1,000 a month.
I hated to turn it down. Since he was cool to offer it to me 1st and I know he's gonna let it go back. But I couldn't afford it. Even though it was a damn nice ride.

I can understand about the payments. I went with something I should be able to afford without a huge hassle. I prefer other cars over the Yaris but I'm a dude paying for both a house and now a new car by himself.
My awesome car was my 1968 Camaro. That thing was a real head turned when I had it back in 2000.

Yeah I was like... if it was in the $400 bucks a month price range....I'd do it. But even then it was something I'd try and do more work for.

Car negotiations do suck.
We just did a Carmax/Toyota Dealer one, and that was relatively painless (but long). We went in wanting a new RAV4 but it felt too soccer-mommish after test driving it. We ended up with a new blackberry crush Scion XB that cost about 10k less (which is always nice).
Very happy with the purchase.
