Like a lot of people, I was exposed to Matt Fraction through Invincible Iron Man. However, while I own all of the issues, I've only read the first 3; I guess I just haven't gotten around to reading the rest, yet.
Anyways, I've heard a lot of good stuff about his previous work, especially The Order and Casanova. And the last time I was at my LCS, I noticed the first volume of Casanova in HC, originally $25, marked down to $15. I was just wondering whether or not I should get this. However, I also want to get Death of the New Gods and The Man Who Laughs, as well, but only have enough for two of them.
I was just hoping for some comments about how readers feel about the series, and if it's a better buy than the other two I mentioned (Death of the New Gods is in HC, and is $15, and The Man Who Laughs is in HC, and is $10).

It's awesome. It's layers and layers of weirdness and great ideas. And the art, on both arcs, is spectacular. I really miss it and hope that Fraction got some time soon for a third arc.

Casanova is excellent, and one of the best comic books ever created. There's a reason CBR had that article about it being the most important comic book in the last 10 years.

It's absolutely brilliant. That said, and this isn't an insult or anything, but knowing your tastes, you may not enjoy it. It's very, very out there. Deals with all kinds of totally high concept ideas.

It's a really fun read. It may have a lot of high concept stuff, but it can be enjoyed if you just view it as 'super spy with lots of crazy wacky things going on.' It isn't really necessary to keep track of everything. Gabriel Ba does a nice job on art.
Get it!

Hey, I like the Ultimates too! But I'm also a Grant Morrison guy when he's not doing "The Invisibles" level weirdness.

Knowing my tastes?
Is it weirder than anything Warren Ellis has written? Weirder or as weird as Alan Moore's run on Swamp Thing? Seven Soldiers weird?
But, anyways, I was planning to get it yesterday, but when I got there it had already sold, or the owners had moved it someplace. I'll probably look for it again, but I just got $80 worth of old comics today, and I'll probably be getting Death of the New Gods tomorrow, so I'm kinda strapped right now, besides my weekly comics. Hopefully I can find it cheap on eBay.
Thanks for the input!

Well, if you like Morrison's stuff, this probably isn't too much harder to wrap your head around. I just remember how you said that you couldn't get into I Kill Giants because of little things like gamer speak and character names. And Casanova has all kinds of quirks that might throw some readers off in my opinion.
But if you're interested I'd say go for it anyway. It's a fantastic read, just too much energy on every page.

Well, I got it!
Since it's FCBD, my LCS had a bunch of sales: half off on back-issues, trades were 10% off, and all of their normal sale stuff was marked down a little, too. I found Casanova in another pile, but this time for $10. So I picked it up, along with FF 1234, and Final Night.
I'll get around to reading it sometime, but I have a stack of like 150 trades that I have to get through (and I'm not joking. Seriously, 150).

I read in a couple interviews that Fraction did that it would be out around Fall; they were busy getting the format right, and some extras together. This would collect the last 7, right? Do you think it will be in oversize HC like the last one?
