Back in the past Starman digs up Superboy's grave and places his remains in the kryptonian healing chamber that brought Superman back to life after fighting Doomsday for a thousands years his remains heal. the three Brainiac's use the fresh DNA from Superman and Luther to create Connor a new body (they fix the flaw that Robin ran into while trying to clone him).
Apparently Superboy wasn't really dead.
Oh and the Time Trapper is an old Superman-Prime.

The funny thing is ... that's the fan-pleaser, but that's not even the craziest part of this issue by a long shot ...
Talk about motivation for screwing with history ...
So is Time Trapper possessing ... or is this the post Infinite Crisis revisionist future history ... or what? An ultimate, un-killable host for the Trapper's essence?
Some nice things though - Bart Allen isn't dumb enough to stop moving at absurd speeds. He's booking. Sodam Yat owns ... Polar Boy tries to ... and Sun Boy has his come back.
Conner is the next trump card ... and if the combined might of super Super-Flashy types can't do this, I don't know what can.
All the usual Superboy-Prime rules are in play, but things are changing. Kryptonite ... working ... time/space mind-screw ... impending ...

YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! and one more !
Long story short; Connor comes back via a healing pod thanks to the combined efforts of Braniac 5, Starman, Dawnstar, Polarboy and Wildfire-that's why they were colecting Luthor's hair in the past.
In the mean time several Legionares face death, this issue amongst which is Kinetix (some magic wielder, don't know her) and quite possible Element Lad(was impaled with a Kryptonite rock, not sure which version) however since it is the 30th century he might just survive.
While all of this is happening Superman, Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy and Lightining Boy square off against the Time Trapper, who is revealed to be an older Superboy-Prime. Once the mask is of he promptly claims that Connor and the rest of the Legion cannot and never will defeat him or his past version.

Here's the friggin' weird thing about that ...
He's "older" ... he's got a beard and white hair on his temples ... so why does Prime still look like a SuperBOY and not like SuperMAN?
How can he grow old over eons and eons, find himself at the end of time, but not grow out of the boy size and shape into Superman-Prime again? We saw time fluxes turned him into a Superman once already ... (granted, it was Countdown, but still - he was looking a little older during Sinestro Corps War, too).

I know a lot of people do not like ressurections, crazy plots, etc...but I say if you love the Legion in particular and the DC Universe in general, you have got to love this issue. People want a DCU comic that has dramatic weight but can manage to be fun too....ladies and gentleman, I give you Legion of 3 Worlds number 4 as a great example. Long Live Bart Allen! Long Live Conner Kent!! Long Live the Legion!!! Assuming everyone doesn't die next issue

quite possible Element Lad(was impaled with a Kryptonite rock, not sure which version) however since it is the 30th century he might just survive. .
It's the Element Lad from Waid's run. You can tell because he has a cape (used it to cover Sunboy's dead body) and a chin-patch. Also of notice is that he was able to transmute the ground into a form of Green K that could hurt Prime. More on that theory in this thread (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=264179&page=2) .....

I don't know why... but I'm made vaguely uneasy at the idea of one-thousand year-old jeans and t-shirt... it feels a little too literal a resurrection [every memory, every hair, every fiber of his clothing]... I wouldn't have minded a regeneration suit, but obviously that would've cut into the impact of the instantly recognizable splash page.
In the 31st Century, Conner's the only person on earth wearing denim! ;)
btw, this is NOT a "new costume for Superboy" plea, I don't really care what he wears (barring is Reign of Supermen haircut), just more a resurrection chamber observation.

Please turn it into one?
I haaaaaaaaaaaate Superboy's costume. And Wonder Girl's, for that matter. Jeans and t-shirts are probably half the reason I don't follow either character (unless it's of massive importance to the entirety of the DCU or whatever Superman is doing). Even his lame 90's costume was a spandex jumpsuit, with a leather jacket thrown on over it so he'd look like the male equivalent of X-Men's Rogue ...
Hate it. I was hoping somewhere amid his unbelievably cunning scheme to resurrect Conner, that Brainiac would have put his big Coluan brain to work designing a new costume for the poor kid as well ... even if it's a cheat, like how Capt. Marvel Jr. just wore Billy's costume, blue instead of red - or hey, just Superman's costume, only inverted.
Heck, right now with all the overly elaborate work they're doing to design costumes for all these "New Kryptonians" and Superwoman and such ... now's a perfect time to give Superboy something a little more iconic.
Me? I'd keep the "no cape, and short sleeves", but otherwise the costume would be really similar to Superman's. Only yellow-gold, with the red "El" logo on a blue background. There needs to be more yellow superheroes, and not all "Supers" need to wear boyscout blue ... also, he wouldn't have the underwear style briefs ... shirt and pants setup ... with a belt. That's all.
I'm done ranting now. (Although it did occur to me amidst that rant that Lucy Lane's Superwoman costume is red, white and blue ... that could have been our biggest hint).
Long story short; Connor comes back via a healing pod thanks to the combined efforts of Braniac 5, Starman, Dawnstar, Polarboy and Wildfire-that's why they were colecting Luthor's hair in the past.
...Which, of course, begs once again the question that's been sitting there since they retconned Connor into being part-Luthor instead of Paul Westfield: When wil Connor go bald?

God no ... Mon-El's costume makes no sense - the blue trunks? Seriously? Originally he didn't wear trunks, did he? I don't think he did ... just a red uniform with a blue cape and boots ... also Mon's clothes aren't tight enough.

So now the Time Trapper has always been Superboy-Prime? Do we get an explanation as to what caused this version to have these powers?

Will be picking this up this weekend. But while in "Zero Hour", it was revealed to be an older Cosmic Boy, there was another Time Trapper seen at the end of the series with different hair. I think they were alluding to the new Trapper as being female. As I understand it, this was never really followed up in greater detail. Hence Geoff Johns just tweaked it to be Superboy-Prime and thus is explaining why the Legion have gone through the wringer since 1987. My guess is that the Cosmic Boy Time Trapper was a creation to mess with the Legion of the Post Crisis, Pre-Zero Hour era.

This is where the whole continuity gets convoluted  . Each Legion represented seems to have a different version of the Time Trapper. If you haven't read this issue yet, you must pick it up. I think the female Time trapper version you have in mind it Lori Morning or Glorith. Wiki those two and see if it fits with what you know from Legion history.
Either way, this issue is pretty good. Can't wait to see how #5 turns out.

I kind of knew it in my subconscious, but Newsarama's "Best Shots" review really hammered it into the forefront of my mind ... the way Johns' has set this up, it's not just "Legion of 3 Worlds", it's Superboy of 3 Worlds as well ...
Superman - The Superboy of the "Grown-Up Legion"
Superboy - The Superboy of the "Rebooted Legion"
Superboy Prime - Ironically, the Superboy of the "Threeboot Legion". But his disappearance in time due to the COIE could explain why their time travel backwards lead them to Earth-0 instead.
It kind of lends credence to Batman's query about the "differing Legions" back in Johns' Superman run, just prior to Batman, R.I.P. ... (also featuring Time Trapper, A.K.A. Old Superboy-Prime narrating and talking about Batman's death). Batman wondered if they really were "possible futures", wondered at the logic of tampering with the past, and may even have had a "bat-hunch" about the Threeboot Legion's connection with Superboy-Prime.
They should have brought back the mirror universe Superboy for this storyline, too. I don't think he's been seen since the Black Zero arc in Superboy's last series.

That's because he is a) dead and b) the pocket universe no longer exists. When he was seen in the pages of Superboy, it was before his death and the destruction of his universe.
Welcome back, Conner. Welcome back.

I wanna know, why bring back Conner? I mean the first two fights against Prime he got his ass handed to him and then he got killed. If they really needed more power why not just bring Powergirl and Supergirl into the future?

It has more to do with the psychological reasoning, rather than brute power. Kon-El was the first to engage Prime in a fight and Kon did get into his head when Prime started stuttering and stammering. He's afraid of him like he is of Bart and the other speedsters. BTW, Kon-El did not lose the second fight. He won by crashing the two of them into Alexander Luthor's tower, bringing it down.
That's because he is a) dead and b) the pocket universe no longer exists. When he was seen in the pages of Superboy, it was before his death and the destruction of his universe.
...Actually, he did sort of come back. When Hypertime was still in effect, Connor encountered what was essentially the Earth-1 Superboy, complete with Krypto, just as many of us grew up with and who was a member of the Legion.
...But then again, I could see another fun way to take down Prime: have all the young teen versions of the various Supermen from the 52 Earths show up just as they did at the end of Final Upchuck(*). You could have had a lot of fun with that. Hitler Youth Superman, Fat Albert Gang Superman, Staying Alive Disco Superman, etc, etc.
(*) It's either that or Anal Crisis. Take your pick.
I wanna know, why bring back Conner?
...Because he shouldn't have been killed in the first place. Sometimes when fate deals a bad card, the universe allows you to realize the deck was stacked and the cards were marked, and lets you beat the shit out of the dealer and take your chips back. This and Bart's return were clearly that.

Conner isn't just back, he's about to star in Adventure Comics, starting in August (as currently scheduled).
This makes me very happy.
I also like the fact that Luthor's "You'll survive anything" hasn't actually been disproved, since Conner never completely died.

True, but with all that has occured since then, that's no longer the case. Hence, he's still dead and that continuity is gone, as per "52" and "Trinity".
Now I find out he never died! I need to pick up LOTW! Crazy!
Well, technically, he was dead. But like Superman when he died, Kon-El could come back to life using the Regeneration Matrix along with new DNA samples from Clark and Lex. This last part was due to his being a clone and not 100% pure Kryptonian.
