Which new electronic gizmos would you like to see hit the shelves in the next few years?
I'm not talking about ridiculous things like flying cars and laser guns but realistic and marketable items.
These are a few things I'd like to see:
Microsoft Xphone - I'd like to see the Xbox brand go portable with a mobile system which could also be used as a mobile phone. The Xbox brand is synonomous with hardcore console gaming and the idea of a portable system with a decent control system as well as a good networking system, coupled with Microsoft's financial might could be a real threat to the iPhone.
SuperPC - I'd like to see a new high spec computing format arrive which could bring the dream of electronic convergence every closer.
I don't see why people still have unconnected TVs, computers, radios, DVD and Blu Ray player as well as other devices when what they really need is a powerful hub system which could handle all of those functions in a unified setup.
Having single use devices also brings up the price of the individual item. Compare the price of a stand alone Blu Ray player to a computer controlled version. The internal player is much cheaper because the computer runs the system and it becomes unnecessary for the player to have its own OS and many of the functions built in as a computer system could handle those on its own.
With the multi-core systems available today, the need for stand alone devices is dropping and it will soon be common for bulky and numerous pieces of hardware to be consigned to the bin, except for a central system which will handle all of the work and a few 'dummy' stations which will feature screens and other input and output devices.
Comic Book Reader - I'm not talking about the human kind but a high definition tablet that will allow colour comic books to be easily accessable in a large format. Storage is becoming cheaper and cheaper so price of comics could come down substantially if the sale of digital format books increases.
Human Cloning - Within ten years, the entire DC comics line will all be written by Gail Simone. Not the same one of course but either the original or one of her fifty clones.
There will be eight different Birds Of Prey titles and each one will tie in properly to the continuity as each Gail will understand what the others are thinking.
Unfortunately, the cloning process may eventually reach lesser writers, leading to the possibility of dozens of Judd Winicks writing as many Green Arrow titles!
