View Full Version : Robert Rodriguez to relaunch 'Predator' franchise, direct 'Machete'
As if we don't have enough remakes coming our way, Robert Rodriguez has written a screenplay for a Predator relaunch:

Oh Hell, I liked what he did with Sin City.

I am really curious about Machete. Can't wait to see that. It's time for Trejo to shine.

He's a highlight of any movie he appears in.
I'm not looking forward to a green screen Predator, if that's what is done with it. :frown:

I liked Sin City but I say hell no on a Predator remake. What next Hollywood remaking Terminator while they are at it.
Talk about having no sense of originality

Talk about having no sense of originalityIt's a relaunch, not a remake.
And they're doing exactly the same with Terminator.

Relaunch? So it's a sequel or Predator Begins?
I thought Terminator Salvation aka T4 was just a sequel following the events of the previous 3?

(2)I thought Terminator Salvation aka T4 was just a sequel following the events of the previous 3?(1) Dunno, but it's a relaunch in both cases.
(2) It is a sequel. And a relaunch as well.
Although "following the events" is a pretty relative term in the Terminator time-stream.

The new relaunch, Predators, is being produced and co-directed by RR and I think inspired by one of his old scripts from awhile ago. They don't have an official writer or another director yet.

I love RR and I'd watch almost anything he does (and I met him once!) but I'd really rather he get started on Sin City 2 rather than either of these, y/n?

Terminator Salvation isn't a direct sequal. They're planning a seperate T4, and the Governator's already agreed to show up in it.

Real shame they are re-launching predator.
There is a planet full of predators, they dont need to rehash it. The cool thing is they have a infinite supply of them, not like they only have one and they can put a predator anywhere they want to fight whoever they want, no need to try and re-do anything.
Plus I love rodriguez alot but I really like it that he always does his own thing, he isnt working on a established franchise or anything. I mean sin city was cool and all but it will still just sin city, wasnt anything new. And thats what he does best is making his own cool unique shit.
My only hope is that he doesnt use CGI in it which he almost assurdely will, on the whole I dont like cg effects but they dont have a place in horror type movies at all.

I like trejo much as the next guy but a whole machete movie is wasted time by robert he could be doing other things.
I mean machete was perfect as the faux trailer and was really kick ass, but a whole hour of it? They practically fit all of machete into 3 minutes already.
This is one of those cases that I think less is actually more.

Trejo is pretty old now , he's like 60 +. they can make him looked badass but he'll still looked like a grandfather.
As for predator , i wonder what role he'll put his girlfriend Ross McGowan in. Maybe she'll become the predator.

Can a new version possibly capture the original's commando-squad awesomeness?
Just the word "commandos" puts me in a tailspin. Commandos, in the 80s, meant a completely different thing than it does now. .....Gone are the Carl Weathers, Jesse "The Body" Ventura and Arnolds of yester-year. And if the new Predator isn't full of 6'4" 250 pound ripped human lunatics, then I do not want. The original's collection of ridiculous men was the reason that I loved Predator. It was, at its heart, the ultimate man versus the ultimate Predator.
Dude.....Shane Black!?!

Yeah, that's what made the Predator so good. You had the ultimate alpha males who were getting killed and beheaded which made the Predator that much more threatning.
Shane Black and the other guy were probably there to round out the group and add atleast some realism to the movie.

I can't find anything on a seperate T4.
The terminator films, despite the time travel stuff, still seems to maintain a strong sense of continuity.
T1 establishes Sarah Connor, T2 establishes young John Connor, T3 contines with John Connor and establishes future wife Cate, T4 continues with adult John and wife Cate.

Yeah, same here man, all the macho beefcakes are just supposed to show how badass the predator is plus give us (humanity) our strongest warriors to fight against the threat.

I love how people can't see past a director's last movie... I mean, after all, there was all that green-screen in El Mariachi, Desperado, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, From Dusk 'Til Dawn...

That script isn't particularly original , kidnapped a bunch of toughest guys to a remote area and hunt them. Been done a few times in the movies already but this just adds a sci-fi twist. Even the WWE movie "The condemned" has a similiar plot.

But not a bad premise for a Predator movie. Hell, it's pretty much either that, or just putting a Predators in an enviornment we haven't seen them in yet. Besides, the original Predator was quite obviously Rambo crossed with Alien. It's the execution, not the originality, that made it work.

Which is why Batman vs. Predator was so freakin' awesome! That's movie I really want to see.

I think AVP is dead considering directors and the studio can't agree on how to do it. the 2 films that were made are strong examples of that. considering how totally different they are.

There is an Alien prequel in the works as well. I don't know that either of these seperate films will hurt or help a chance of more AvP... much as they both sucked I'd rather not see more AvP.
