Can anyone recommend some Karate Kid reading to me?

Legion of Superheroes: An Eye for an Eye tpb.

There was a Legion Worlds issue (#5, I think) with art by Steve Dillon that focused on Karate Kid and Ferro Lad on a world that can only be accessed once every ten years.

Thanks I'll be sure to pick it up.

The best Karate Kid appearance, to me, was in Gail Simone's concluding four-issue arc of The Legion. I think it was issues #34-37. It's an underrated story, but has quite a few great moments in it, not only for Karate Kid (although he gets the best ones) but for Dreamer, Timber Wolf, and even minor characters like Nightwind and Infectious Lass.

Waaaay back in the 1970s Karate Kid had his own series, which I think ran for about 15 or 16 issues.

It would familiarize you with the character of Val Armorr and some of his back-story, to a degree... but really, his stories within the page of LSH are better.

Oddly, one of the Karate Kid stories I enjoyed most didn't even have Val in it--he was already dead! Timber Wolf's voyage to Lythyl, under the terms of KK's will (vol 3, #13 - Aug. 1985), showed us a lot about Val's mentor and upbringing--as well as introducing Myg, the second Karate Kid.

Also: Here's a good writeup about KK: http://www.majorspoilers.com/archives/1271.htm/

This is a great story, too, and it is reprinted in the recent Legion of Superheroes: The More Things Change... tpb. In fact, I would have to say that it's the best story in that particular volume.
