I've been rereading the Johns' trades of Green Lantern and like them quite a bit. Does GL Corps hold up to GL? The onlyCorps issues I read were the Sinestro War issues, which didn't impress me much. Will it help to start at the beginning?

If the Sinestro Corps issues didn't impress you much, it's entirely possible you won't enjoy the Corps title. I think it's an amazing read, and in many ways the equal to the core GL title.

I consider the GLCorps to be "the other side" of the Green Lantern. While GL focuses on Hal in all his glory, GLCorps gives the other lanterns a chance to shine (pun intended). I like Kyle and Guy, but more than that, I really dig all the supporting cast.

Plus, if you want to read about the other colored corps that don't appear in GL on a regular basis, GLCorps is the place for it.

I love your question because I have the answer.

YES!

Tomasi took over as of GLC #19 you know the awesome fight between prime and sodam yat?!

His first arc is called RING QUEST which is 6 issues long. He basically turns Mongul into a badass cosmic villain again.

I will sum up the difference between these two awesome titles in a couple of intelligent sentences.

Johns's green lantern is the elite title and deals with few characters and the bigger concepts, while Tomasi's gives life to the other alien green lanterns and introduces some awesome villains and use of history and continuity to tell great stories.

I enjoy them both equally. They really do play off of each other very well.

Neither the writing or art on Green Lantern Corps is as strong as Green Lantern. They're just not. But it is a good book. The only thing it has over Green Lantern is that it isn't drowning in Hal Jordan. It's pretty good about sharing the spotlight.

Yes it is. Without a doubt.

This is a tricky one.

I actually can see this - The Sinestro Corps War Green Lantern Corps were tied in well enough that nobody can say they were useless add-ons - Ranx vs. Mogo, the Prophecy, and more happened in GLC, and then the Superboy-Prime/Sodam Yat duel was a nice showpiece (also tying into the Prophecy heavily). But I didn't exactly clamor like a rabid mongoose the same way I did for Hal, Sinestro, Ivan Reis 2-page spreads ... oh man, Prime, Henshaw, AND Anti-Monitor? No way! Wait a minute ... 7 Corps? Etc ...

I do like the Gibbons stuff, but since then, GLC has become a lot more vital and more of a partner to GL then a sidekick.

So I'll say that if the GLC half of The Sinestro Corps War didn't do it for you ... grab Ring Quest. There's just a different vibe entirely than the stuff that came before it. The pre-Sinestro Corps stuff is a bit frantic, and the GLC cast definitely lacked direction. Now, post-Sinestro Corps, the cast is past all the introductions and dedicated to justice and peace, are workaholics, and the pacing is better.

Also, with the entire run of GLC, you can watch Pat Gleason get better with every issue.

But Ring Quest should establish the new flow of the book, Tomasi's strengths, and shows good aspects of all the cast members. I'd rather say grab Sins of the Star Sapphire, since it's a HUGE part of the War of Light leading into Blackest Night and has some of the best moments for most of the cast members, but there's a lot in Sins of the Star Sapphire that follows up directly from Ring Quest.

That out of the way, I'll just go on and add that I've very quickly been hooked by Kyle, Guy, their annoyance at new rules, being over-worked, and having women troubles, Kilowog and the supporting cast who all have great hooks (Rannian and Thanagarian partners ... Sinestro's freaking daughter ... etc ...), random Lanterns in Oa, even cranky old Salaak.

For me it's as good as Hal Jordan, Green Lantern, any day. How lucky, we get both every month.

I'm surprised so many people feel this way, honestly. I think GLC has been awful compared to Green Lantern. I think the dialogue is ridiculously cheezy, and I hate the way Tomasi writes Guy Gardner and his subpar Kyle Rayner. I really, really didn't like RingQuest, either.

That said, it has gotten better, given the War of Light themes going on right now, and all told, it probably is an above average book in the DCU at this time. Still, if it didn't deal with the same storylines as GL, and I didn't love the whole idea of the Green Lantern Corps, I would've dropped the book a long time ago.

^ I think we can say that your opinion is a deviation from the norm.

The general opinion is that GLC is good and sometimes even better than GL especially given their interconnectedness.

I actually prefer GLC over the regular GL book.

Stole my answer. But then, I've always preferred the supporting characters in the GL mythos to Hal Jordan himself. Both books are terrific, though.

GLC is a good but not nowhere near as good as GL is, unless you're mostly a Guy or Kyle fan.

I can't think of a better one-two punch currently than Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps.

They're both aces in spades at the moment.

This! Like having Randy Johnson/Curt Schilling. Just read em both. Both these books on such another level that the difference in them dont matter.

While I'd give the edge to GL, GLC is a great book and well worth reading. As others have said, they're great companion books for one another.

Even though I love Green Lantern, I've been reading Green Lantern Corps since Recharge and haven't stopped. I'm missing a lot of the early issues after the GL relaunch and didn't get back into it until Sinestro Corps War.

Johns is golden, but the books are equal in my eyes. Besides the fact that I think Peter Tomasi is one of the best writers DC has at the moment, GLC really pulls me in with the diverse array of characters and the stellar art of Patrick Gleason.

By all means yes! GLC is a great book that goes well with GL and if your going to collect Blackest Night then collecting these would help you understand what's going on with Mongul, the Star Sapphires and the new law.

Great stuff.

Though to be fair, the art and the over the top gore takes a little getting used to...

The only reason I think GL is better is because I'm a Hal fan. Other than that, they're equally awesome.

Well, that explains why I like GLC then. Huge Kyle fan here.
