View Full Version : How can Blackest Night affect the entire DCU when it doesn't have any tie-ins....

I mean outside of the GL and GLC tie-ins to the event, there isn't any other tie-ins towards Blackest Night.

I mean all we're going to get are just mini-series that may or may not affect the overall status quo of things when the event is over.

I mean this is a great chance for so many DC Comic books, new or ongoing, to tie-into an event like this one where the DEAD COMES BACK TO LIVE!!!!

What do you all think of this, I mean should there be actual tie-ins to Black Night one that affects that status quo of things within the books or should there be mini-series that are just for show and don't connect toward the on-going books at all ?

I rather there be no tie-ins. It is a universe spanning event, and the focus is on the GLs, the storyline should remain there.

If that so then there shold be dead corps members instead of dead heroes and villains returning from beyond the grave.

Maybe we should wait until they come out before we start making assumptions.

For me they could go anyway they could go anyway they want, thought if they're going to be creating tie-ins, I sure hope it's relevant and not just created for the sake of a tie-in.

Tie-ins are bad. They suck in those of us who *gasp* aren't reading Blackest Night.

I agree but really now, this is the internet no one wants to have to wait to complain or make assumptions about things that havent even happened or come out yet.

Exactly. Why wait for facts when I can start complaining about something that only exists in my mind right now!?!

Well with some of the mini-series for Blackest Night revealed, does anyone think that ther still should be some tie-ins to the other DCU on-going series ?

I'm pretty certain DC has said there will be. TITANS #15 is a prelude to BLACKEST NIGHT: TITANS.

Don't you worry, the tie-ins will come. Hell, we still haven't seen the last ish of the Final Crisis tie-ins (L3W), the Blackest Night tie-in's will hit in full force come December.

Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps #1-3
Blackest Night: Batman #1-3
Blackest Night: Superman #1-3
Blackest Night: Wonder Woman
Blackest Night: Titans #1-3
and The Titans #15

All these have already been confirmed as tie-ins, so I'm not really no what you mean, when you say:

I mean outside of the GL and GLC tie-ins to the event, there isn't any other tie-ins towards Blackest Night.

BTW, will the main Blackest Night series run until January next year?

As long as tie-ins are good and relevant to the event-storyline as well as the storyline of the book, I have no problem with them. I only have a problem with it when we have crapfest issues haphazardly strewn together with an event banner pasted to the top of the book just to attract the suckers who want the full story despite the fact the contents have absolutely nothing to do with anything.

Did you even read the solicits CMBOOL? There are several minis. They're not going to be taking place in the main books, save for Titans and the Solomon Grundy mini-series and the two monthly GL books.

See there was a time when a story could be self contained in a series or a couple series & still affect the universe at large like Reign of the Supermen or Knightfall etc. I long for those times to return... sigh.

Books could reference it and then show the real impact after the event wraps, but if too many books tie-in then it will strain the story too much.

Why are tie-ins needed to affect the whole universe?

Why not just a mini where the relevant characters can appear, and the writers of the individual books can tie-in as much, or as little, as they want to?

Or did shite like FC: Requiem really float your boat?

Overall, I agree with your suggestions concerning event tie-ins, but on the other hand, Requiem did kinda float my boat.

Really?

I got the trades, so I had the next FC chapter there to go, and so was annoyed by Requiem.

Resist I did enjoy though.

Mozza on tie-ins: (http://www.newsarama.com/comics/020904-Grant-FC2.html)
[With Final Crisis] we left out the line-wide crossover tie-ins that have every detail of backstory spelled out laboriously by writers desperate to get back to their own plotlines.

I enjoyed "Requiem" as well. I don't see the problem with it or doing it this way. I mean, do you really want to have the stories in the main books interrupted? That's been the number one complaint I've read over the years. Writers hate it because they have to stop their stories to deal with something and it rarely has any impact in their book. Fans complain for the same reasons.

One shot tie-ins are fine, and much better than forcing people into a read they don't want.

I just thought Requiem was a toss where nothing happened.

A whole issue where nothing happens but a character dying - seemingly to negate the out of nowhere and done so suddenly death of the character.

Agreed. Especially at the end when Batman leaves the cookie for J'onn as a final good-bye, reminding us of their friendship and especially of the JLI era.

if they have tie-in i hope that there's not a bunch of them like marvels "dark reign" because i don't what to have to buy a book that i don't normaly get because it has some major thing to do with blackest night.

i buy way too many books as it is already, but at the same time i don't like dropping books that i collect full runs of.

so far the only book that i've dropped is skaar, but then turned around and started getting about 5 other books.

You fans appreciated a sub-par story where nothing happened?

The fact he had fans is why his death was so sudden - the shock factor was that you wouldn't expect a character of his standing to go that fast.
And in the next issue they mention ressurection - he'll be back, and they might fix that silly head they gave him as well.

Requiem was one of the best things out of FC and I like the event. It was one of best reviewed issues out of that event and I don't remember fans having anything but praise for it.

But nothing happened!

And it had those god-horrible flame panels where he had a disjointed monologue about god knows what.

I'd say it worked fine monthly, but switching between collection to that and back to collection didn't help it.

Some of the best stories are the ones where nothing much happens. Not every book needs spaceships and 'splosions. How much action were you expecting from a story called REQUIEM??
